MODcourt Pick Indoor Pickleball Court: Space, Performance Data, Installation, and Buying Checks

MODcourt Pick is a movable, indoor-only pickleball court system built from interlocking tiles. Its 15 May 2024 technical sheet reports 8 mm material thickness, more than 17% force reduction, 0.7 mm vertical deformation, 80.7% energy restitution, and 65.53% pickleball vertical rebound under named test methods. Those figures come from the product documentation, not independent testing or a head-to-head comparison.

For a facility owner, the first decision is not whether the numbers look impressive. It is whether the quoted configuration fits the building, existing floor, clearance rules, access route, budget, and operating plan. Published footprint dimensions conflict, package contents are not fully defined, and warranty statements vary by source. Get those items in writing before you order.

What MODcourt Pick is

MODcourt Pick is described by product sources as a movable indoor pickleball court made from interlocking tiles. The retailer describes a water-acrylic playing surface over an 8 mm vulcanized composition-rubber base and identifies the system as indoor-use-only. The technical sheet likewise describes an indoor system intended for setup and dismantling rather than a permanently poured floor.

ModCourts markets the system with the statement, “Install almost anywhere (and moved) almost anywhere, with no expensive groundwork and preparation.” That is a manufacturer claim, not a site-specific assessment. An existing gym, warehouse, recreation room, or event floor still has to meet the seller’s requirements for flatness, loading, moisture, access, leveling, and protection of the finish.

Because the tiles are modular, a facility can theoretically remove or relocate the court when the room has another use. In practice, reversibility depends on how the subfloor is leveled, whether edge transitions are used, where the tiles are stored, and whether repeated assembly affects the existing finish. Ask the installer to describe those details for your building.

What the published performance figures mean

The product technical data sheet is marked “Rev 15May2024.” It reports the following results and associated methods:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Measure Reported result Named method How to use the figure
Force reduction Greater than 17% ASTM F2569 Indicates the reduction reported by the tested system configuration; it is not a guarantee of injury prevention.
Vertical deformation 0.7 mm ASTM F2157 Describes measured surface deformation under the stated test method.
Energy restitution 80.7% ASTM F3189 Shows the proportion of energy returned in that test configuration, not a universal playing characteristic for every installation.
Pickleball vertical rebound 65.53% EN 12235 Provides a rebound result under the named method; compare alternatives only when their methods and configurations match.
Material thickness 8 mm Product specification Describes the stated system thickness, not the thickness of every subfloor or transition layer.

A retailer rounds the same performance claims to 17% force reduction and 80% energy restitution and lists safety, ergonomics, noise, and ease of maintenance as benefits. Those descriptions should remain product claims. The available information does not quantify noise reduction, prove a particular injury rate, or establish durability through an independent test.

When comparing a modular court with poured acrylic sports flooring or another roll-out system, do not rank products from one percentage alone. Confirm that the test standard, specimen construction, temperature, installation method, and measurement conditions are comparable. The published material does not provide a quantified MODcourt-versus-competitor ranking.

How much space an indoor court needs

The playing rectangle and the complete installed footprint are different measurements. A regulation-style pickleball playing rectangle is commonly shown as 20 ft by 44 ft, but players, officials, fencing, benches, lighting, circulation, and maintenance access need additional room.

Source or description Published dimensions Area What must be clarified
Technical sheet standard size 32 ft × 60 ft 1,920 sq ft Confirm whether this is the complete modular footprint, including perimeter space.
Retailer standard playing court 20 ft × 44 ft 880 sq ft This is identified as the playing court, not necessarily the tile system or circulation zone.
Retailer whole system 30 ft × 60 ft 1,800 sq ft Request the current dimensioned plan and edge-clearance assumptions.
ModCourts tournament-level court 64 ft × 32 ft 2,048 sq ft Determine whether this describes the installed court, an event layout, or a different package.
International Pickleball Federation manual search result Outer clearance rectangle labeled 60 ft × 30 ft 1,800 sq ft Use the applicable governing body’s current requirements for your event type.

These figures do not align: the technical sheet says 32 ft by 60 ft, the retailer lists 30 ft by 60 ft for the whole system, and ModCourts separately cites 64 ft by 32 ft for a tournament-level court. Treat them as configuration-specific descriptions, not interchangeable specifications. Before measuring your room, ask for a current drawing that labels the 20 ft by 44 ft playing rectangle, tile boundaries, net line, perimeter clearance, fencing, benches, and access paths.

Make a room plan before requesting a quote

  1. Measure the clear room. Record the usable length, width, ceiling height, columns, doors, sprinklers, HVAC equipment, and fixed bleachers. Measure between obstructions, not from nominal wall dimensions.
  2. Reserve the playing area. Mark the 20 ft by 44 ft court rectangle and the net location on a scaled plan.
  3. Add the quoted system boundary. Overlay the seller’s full tile footprint, edge pieces, rails, and transitions. Do not assume the playing rectangle equals the installed system.
  4. Check circulation and safety zones. Leave the clearance required by your governing body, insurer, facility policy, and event format. The International Pickleball Federation search result shows a 60 ft by 30 ft outer clearance reference; verify the current manual and the rule set that applies to your facility.
  5. Trace delivery and removal routes. Confirm that pallets, tiles, net posts, and lighting components can pass through doors, lifts, corridors, and turning areas without damaging the building.

Can it go over an existing gym floor?

Possibly, but the available product descriptions do not establish that every gym floor is suitable. The seller and facility manager should approve the actual substrate in writing. A successful quote should identify the floor type, acceptable flatness tolerance, point-load and rolling-load limits, moisture conditions, leveling method, surface protection, and who is responsible if the existing finish is damaged.

Site checks to complete

  • Flatness and level: identify high and low areas with a documented survey or straightedge method, then state how the modular system will be leveled.
  • Subfloor and load: document the slab, wood floor, sprung sports floor, or other substrate and confirm that it can support tiles, players, posts, rails, benches, and temporary equipment.
  • Moisture: obtain the seller’s moisture limits and test procedure. Indoor use does not remove moisture risk in a slab or below-grade room.
  • Finish protection: specify underlayment, protective films, edge treatment, and cleaning restrictions for the existing gym finish.
  • Acclimation and environment: ask whether tiles must acclimate to the room’s temperature and humidity before installation and what conditions must be maintained during use.
  • Access and storage: plan a dry, secure storage area if the court will be dismantled, and define how tiles will be stacked or transported.

ModCourts says its system can be installed almost anywhere without expensive groundwork, uses a precise leveling system, dries without puddling, and installs quickly. Those statements describe the product portfolio; they do not guarantee that an uneven, damp, fragile, or heavily loaded indoor floor is acceptable. Have the installer inspect the room and attach the approved preparation method to the contract.

Installation and dismantling: what to verify

The technical sheet describes the court as movable and designed for setup and dismantling. Johnson Fitness publishes a claim that four people can install the tiles in as little as two hours. That is a retailer-published minimum-style estimate, not a promise for every order.

  1. Confirm the work package. Establish whether the quoted labor includes delivery, unloading, acclimation, floor protection, leveling, tile layout, line installation, net assembly, edge transitions, lighting, and cleanup.
  2. Prepare and inspect the room. Remove obstructions, clean the substrate using the approved method, verify moisture and flatness, and record the pre-installation condition of the existing floor.
  3. Set the datum and leveling system. The installer should mark the court origin, establish the playing rectangle, and document any shims, leveling components, or subfloor technology used.
  4. Interlock the tiles. Follow the supplied sequence so seams, perimeter edges, and transitions align. Do not substitute adhesives, fasteners, or cleaning chemicals without written approval.
  5. Install lines and equipment. Verify line dimensions, net height and tension, post positions, fencing, rails, benches, and lighting against the agreed plan.
  6. Inspect before handover. Walk the surface for lippage, gaps, movement, rocking tiles, trip edges, puddling, visible damage, and interference with doors or other equipment. Photograph the completed condition.
  7. Record the dismantling method. Label tile zones, note the lifting sequence, and document storage requirements so a later move does not become an improvised demolition.

Ask the seller to state the assumed crew size, room dimensions, subfloor condition, and whether the “as little as two hours” estimate includes accessories. A four-person installation on a prepared open slab is not equivalent to a constrained retrofit in an operating gym.

What may be included in a complete package

ModCourts lists a net, fencing, rails, lighting, an electrical outlet, a courtside bench, and custom court colors as available options. The page does not establish which items belong to a particular package. A quote that says “court” without a bill of materials is not enough for a meaningful comparison.

Item to confirm Questions for the seller
Playing surface How many tiles, what edge pieces, what line system, and what replacement quantities are included?
Net and posts Is a net included, and are posts, anchors, tension hardware, and storage covers supplied?
Perimeter protection Are fencing, rails, padding, gates, and transitions part of the quoted configuration?
Lighting and power Are fixtures, controls, wiring, and the listed electrical outlet included, or is electrical work by the facility?
Amenities Is the courtside bench included, optional, or excluded from delivery and assembly?
Appearance What custom colors are available, and are color changes priced per tile, line set, or complete court?
Logistics Does the price include shipping, lift-gate service, inside delivery, assembly, dismantling, and disposal of packaging?

Obtain a complete bill of materials before comparing bids. Include net, posts, lines, edge pieces, transitions, storage, delivery, assembly, site preparation, taxes, and facility-specific electrical or building work.

Price, warranty, and ownership questions

This is a quote-driven commercial court system, and no reliable universal installed price is established in the available material. ModCourts’ page says 2025 retail pricing may change after quality testing of a new patented subfloor technology. Treat any old web price as provisional and request a current delivered quotation for your location and configuration.

Warranty statements also differ. A retailer page lists a one-year warranty for rubber, while ModCourts’ page claims a 25-year warranty against cracks. Those statements may apply to different components or products; they do not prove that every part of MODcourt Pick has a 25-year warranty. Ask for the current warranty document and confirm:

Maintenance and replacement planning

The retailer describes safety, ergonomics, noise, and ease of maintenance as benefits, but no quantified noise reduction or maintenance interval is provided. Request the written cleaning procedure before commissioning the court. It should identify approved detergents, equipment, water volume, drying time, stain treatment, and prohibited chemicals.

Ask how individual damaged or worn tiles are identified, ordered, shipped, and color-matched. Keep a small labeled replacement inventory if the facility depends on continuous court availability, and document the tile layout so a replacement does not disturb the playing dimensions. Include routine inspections for lifted edges, seam separation, movement, damaged lines, loose net hardware, and blocked transitions.

How to compare MODcourt Pick with other court surfaces

A useful comparison is a site-and-ownership analysis, not a single “performance” score. For poured or acrylic sports flooring, modular tiles, and roll-out courts, collect the same evidence in each bid:

Comparison axis Evidence to request
Playing and total footprint Dimensioned plan separating the 20 ft by 44 ft playing rectangle from the complete installed area and required clearance.
Existing-floor compatibility Written substrate limits, flatness tolerances, moisture requirements, leveling approach, and finish-protection method.
Installation and reversibility Crew, hours, preparation assumptions, dismantling sequence, storage needs, and move-related costs.
Impact and ball response Published force reduction, deformation, restitution, and rebound results with test methods and tested configuration.
Acoustics and comfort Measured sound data or clearly labeled qualitative claims; do not treat “quieter” as a quantified result.
Maintenance and parts Cleaning instructions, inspection schedule, replacement availability, lead times, and color matching.
Package scope Net, posts, lines, fencing, rails, lighting, electrical work, benches, transitions, and delivery responsibilities.
Warranty Component-by-component terms, exclusions, labor and freight coverage, and conditions that preserve validity.
Total installed cost Current delivered quote including taxes, site preparation, leveling, assembly, electrical work, and future replacement parts.

The published MODcourt Pick figures can be entered into this matrix, but there is not enough evidence to declare the system superior to every alternative. A fair decision uses matching test methods and the actual operating requirements of your facility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pre-order checklist for facility owners

Request these documents and answers in the quote package:

  1. A current, dimensioned site plan distinguishing playing area, tile boundary, perimeter clearance, and accessory locations.
  2. Written floor and subfloor requirements, including flatness, load, moisture, leveling, protection, and acclimation instructions.
  3. A complete bill of materials identifying what is included, optional, excluded, or supplied by the facility.
  4. A delivered price showing taxes, shipping, inside delivery, assembly, electrical work, site preparation, and any facility-specific costs.
  5. The current warranty document with coverage assigned to each component.
  6. Cleaning, inspection, storage, dismantling, and replacement-tile instructions.
  7. Current test reports and confirmation that the tested construction matches the product configuration being quoted.
  8. The governing-body clearance and event requirements that will apply to your intended use.
  9. A written installation schedule stating crew size, expected duration, room assumptions, and handover inspection criteria.

MODcourt Pick is most defensible when you need an indoor, movable court and can document a suitable existing floor, adequate clearance, and a complete package. If the room cannot accommodate the verified footprint, the substrate cannot meet written requirements, or the seller will not define package and warranty scope, pause the purchase until those uncertainties are resolved.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
