To build a mobile table saw workbench for a small shop, first choose whether you need a dedicated saw cart, a folding workbench, or a flexible bench with a removable saw. Measure your saw and plan both the working and stored footprints before choosing dimensions. Published plans are useful examples, not universal templates: the right layout depends on your saw, workpieces, available aisle space, and storage needs.
There is no single source-backed standard size or caster specification for these benches. Compare the options below, then verify the chosen plan’s dimensions and materials against your actual equipment and workspace.
Choose a Layout for Your Shop
Mobile designs solve space constraints in different ways. Some keep the saw in a dedicated cart; others fold away a work surface or add a folding wing. A separate rolling saw stand can also leave a shared bench available for other work. The examples below describe publisher or manufacturer features, not head-to-head performance tests.
| Option | Published features | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Compact customizable saw stand | Spencley Design Co gives an example measuring 24 inches deep, 28 inches wide, and 26.5 inches tall with casters. Its plan page describes drawers and includes a PDF, SketchUp model, cut diagrams, parts lists, layouts, and steps. | Check whether your saw, fence, controls, and required support fit the design; treat the published dimensions as an example. |
| Rolling commercial saw stand | DEWALT lists its DW7440RS at 33 pounds, with quick-connect saw brackets, folding legs, a kickstand, and rubber feet. The manufacturer describes stability and material-feed support as design goals. | It is a stand rather than a combined assembly bench. Manufacturer descriptions are not independent tests or a safety guarantee. |
| Folding workbench | Kreg’s plan uses a folding top intended to tuck against a wall. Its listed materials include four 2.5-inch locking casters, 2-by-4 pine, a 2-by-4-foot 3/4-inch plywood panel, hinges, screws, and barrel-bolt latches. | This is a general workbench plan, not a table-saw-specific cart. Confirm saw fit and caster suitability before adapting it. |
| Saw-specific cart with folding wing | Thomas Custom Woodworks describes a cart based on a Ridgid R4518 that can be adapted. Its listed features include a foldable wing adding 13 inches of cutting surface when raised, two drawers, three open compartments, and a semi-enclosed saw area intended to help dust collection. | Verify adaptation details against the saw and actual plan. The dust-collection benefit is the publisher’s description, not independent performance data. |
For a larger sheet-goods support surface, Festool describes the STM 1800 as a mobile saw table and workbench, rather than an integrated table-saw cabinet. Its product page lists adjustable height and folded dimensions; check the current specifications if considering it. The Rhino Home also describes a 3-in-1 plan combining a miter-saw station, table-saw station, and outfeed table.

- IMPROVED VERSION - The workbench caster kit uses thicker steel, stronger screws, three holes on the top and the bottom of the plate, better wheels and bearings. Add rubber sleeve to protect contact part between human body and the caster, new design which is different from other Retractable Casters
- SIMPLE OPERATION - This 4 retractable caster wheels work by simply pushing down on the pedals to raise your workbench off the floor. Once elevated you can move your bench, table or machine as desired, then lift up on the pedals to disengage and your workbench, table, cabinet, stand or machine sits firmly on the floor at its original working height.
- DURABLE CONSTRUCTION - The heavy duty workbench wheels are constructed with durable solid steel and urethane wheels, which can smoothly move 360 degree. The wear-resistant urethane wheels is more steadier for heavy duty benches. Suitable for extensive daily use like workbe.
- STRONG FOOT PEDAL - Each lift pedal is ribbed and textured to provide extra grip when foot pressure is applied. All the four urethane casters together can provide you a total weight capacity of 660 lbs. The workbench casters will work on workbenches, stands, tables, cabinets and lightweight machinery with flat bases.
- Package Included - The workbench retractable casters include 4 workbench caster assemblies, all the necessary mounting hardware and instructions.
Plan the Working and Stored Footprints
Compare each design by saw compatibility, deployed footprint, stored footprint, stability and material support, setup effort, and access to storage. The cited sources do not provide a comparative test or establish a universally best option.
- Saw fit: Record the table and base dimensions, mounting arrangement, fence travel, controls, blade access, and anything that must remain accessible. Check whether the saw needs to be removable.
- Working footprint: Sketch the saw, any extensions or wings, the aisle, and the route a workpiece will take before and after cutting. A compact bench does not necessarily support every board or sheet good.
- Stored footprint: Draw the folded or parked state too. Account for folding legs, hinged tops, wings, wall clearance, and the route the unit must roll through.
- Mobility and locking: Match caster or stand details to the completed design and floor. A plan’s caster example does not establish a suitable load rating for a different build.
- Storage and dust handling: Decide whether drawers, shelves, or an enclosure suit your workflow. Check any enclosure against the saw’s exhaust and the dust-collection equipment you plan to use.
- Build complexity: Compare the plan’s joinery, tool requirements, instructions, and expected adaptation to your saw.
Adapt a Plan Before Cutting
- Measure the saw. Record its outer dimensions, mounting points, fence travel, controls, blade elevation and tilt access, and any stand or hose that must remain accessible. Plans may be model-specific or adaptable, so verify the fit rather than assuming compatibility.
- Sketch both states. Draw the operating layout and the stored layout, including the aisle and workpiece path. Show any folding top, support wing, or legs in both positions.
- Set the intended height. Choose a working height that suits the saw and your intended use, then check how the support surfaces will align. The cited sources do not establish a universal bench-height or outfeed-alignment rule.
- Select materials for that plan. Use the chosen plan’s materials list as a starting point, not a recipe for another design. For example, Kreg lists 2-by-4 pine, a 2-by-4-foot 3/4-inch plywood panel, hinges, screws, latches, and four 2.5-inch locking casters for its folding-workbench plan.
- Check mobility details against your build. Confirm caster load rating and attachment details for the completed bench and your floor. Kreg’s listed caster size does not specify a load rating or show that those casters suit a heavier saw cart.
- Check dust compatibility. If the design encloses the saw or adds collection equipment, verify that the enclosure works with the saw’s exhaust and the actual collection system.
Safety and Verification
The sources used for this guide do not include an authoritative table-saw safety standard or saw-manufacturer manual for integrating a saw into a DIY bench. Do not treat a plan’s dimensions, a commercial stand’s marketing claims, or a caster example as a safety guarantee. Before building or using an integrated station, check the saw manufacturer’s instructions for mounting, access, and operation, and obtain authoritative safety guidance for your saw and intended work.

Should I build a dedicated saw cart or use a folding workbench?
A dedicated cart keeps the saw in a station; a folding bench or separate rolling stand may make it easier to reclaim floor space or use the bench for other work. Compare saw fit, working and stored footprints, material support, setup effort, and storage needs rather than assuming one design is best for everyone.
Can I adapt a folding workbench plan for a table saw?
Possibly, but a general folding-workbench plan is not automatically compatible with a table saw. Check the saw’s mounting arrangement, controls, fence travel, blade access, workpiece support needs, and whether the caster and attachment details suit the finished design.

- 360-DEGREE CASTERS: The workbench casters equiped with 360-degree swivel bracket, the casters wheels can turn to any directions.
Are 2.5-inch locking casters suitable for a table saw bench?
Kreg lists four 2.5-inch locking casters in its folding-workbench plan, but that listing does not give a load rating or establish suitability for a different or heavier saw cart. Choose casters and attachments for the completed design and floor conditions.
Does an enclosure improve table-saw dust collection?
Thomas Custom Woodworks describes its semi-enclosed saw area as intended to help dust collection, but the cited page does not provide independent collection-performance data. Check enclosure compatibility with your saw’s exhaust and the collection equipment you will use.
