What corrosion-resistant steel does MMK make for construction?
A report from the SteelStructures International Industrial Exhibition says MMK launched flat steel with a zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy coating, intended for construction uses including light steel framing. The report describes the coating as corrosion-resistant; it is not an independent product test or a complete engineering specification. Read the exhibition report.

The same report compares the coating’s corrosion-protection properties to conventional “275-class” zinc coatings and calls them “80-class.” It says testing showed the new coating outperforming conventional coatings, potentially allowing lower coating mass while extending service life. The report does not provide the underlying test protocol or an independent technical report, so these figures should not be treated as a general performance guarantee or a service-life prediction.
Is MMK’s Zn-Al-Mg steel the same as atmospheric weathering steel?
No equivalence is established. Zn-Al-Mg flat steel is described as steel protected by a metallic alloy coating. Atmospheric weathering steel relies on a different mechanism: under suitable atmospheric exposure, its surface develops a dense protective rust layer over time. Nippon Steel describes this process for its COR-TEN products; that example does not show that MMK sells COR-TEN or an equivalent uncoated weathering-steel grade. “Weather-resistant” can be used broadly to mean resistance to corrosion, but it is not enough to identify a material or demonstrate that it is weathering steel in the technical sense. No MMK datasheet or product announcement identified here confirms an uncoated atmospheric weathering-steel grade.
What other MMK construction steel is reported?
Industry news reports that MMK has expanded its construction range with high-ductility reinforcement and reinforcement grades with guaranteed resistance to corrosion cracking, for precast and monolithic reinforced-concrete construction. This is a separate product category from Zn-Al-Mg coated flat steel. The report does not provide a complete engineering specification or certification record, so project teams should obtain the relevant technical documents before specifying the reinforcement. MMK Market’s catalog lists flat steel and coated steel categories and provides ordering information. A category listing is not confirmation that a particular grade, coating, dimension, or quantity is currently available; the catalog information alone also does not establish consumer-size ordering. Confirm product identity and availability directly with the supplier.

Do not select a replacement based on a general label such as “corrosion-resistant” or “weather-resistant.” Compare the actual technical documents for the proposed material and the project requirement:

- Corrosion mechanism: establish whether protection comes from a metallic or organic coating, or from an atmospheric patina.
- Exposure and detailing: check the intended environment and conditions such as wet-dry cycling and drainage, which affect suitability.
- Grade and standard: verify the exact grade and governing standard rather than assuming two products are equivalent.
- Product form and dimensions: confirm the required sheet, section, or reinforcement form, thickness, and dimensions.
- Fabrication and finish: check welding and other fabrication requirements, along with any coating repair or finish requirements.
The available MMK reports do not establish equivalent grades across these factors. Obtain the product specification and confirm it meets the project design requirements before approving a substitution.
