What happened to Mug Shots Coffee?
Mug Shots Coffee announced its closure on February 16, 2026, and February 21 was reported as its final operating day. In its announcement, the business thanked customers, saying, “We are deeply grateful for every customer who has supported us – from early morning regulars to weekend families. You made this dream possible.” WNEM reported the announcement and final day.
The shop had opened in January 2024 at 3715 North Saginaw Road as a drive-through or walk-up coffee business. Its opening coverage described coffee and espresso drinks, lattes, chai, matcha, frappes, tea and iced tea, with multiple milk options. Midland Daily News covered its opening.
Did road construction cause the closure?
That cause is not established in the available reporting. WNEM’s closure report and Midland Daily News’ account of the next business taking over the space do not say construction reduced customer traffic or led Mug Shots to close. They also provide no traffic counts, revenue figures or other measurements of an impact. Without a direct statement from the business or reporting that documents the connection, the construction explanation should be treated as unconfirmed—not as a verified reason for the closure.

What opened in the former location?
Boomerang Coffee Lounge opened a third location at the former Mug Shots address on March 1, 2026, offering drive-through and walk-up service. Before opening, owners Maegan and Brett Nowak told Midland Daily News that Mug Shots had reached out to them about the space; the report does not identify roadwork as the reason Mug Shots closed.
