Instead, its Lite-N1, N1000, and N2000 models combine RTK/GNSS positioning, visual-inertial navigation, cameras, ToF sensors, and app-created virtual boundaries.
That makes NOVABOT potentially attractive for homeowners with larger, sloped, or multi-zone lawns—but “wire-free” does not mean infrastructure-free or maintenance-free. The mower still needs careful setup, reliable localization, mapped boundaries, and supervised testing before it should be trusted to operate unattended.

What makes NOVABOT different?
Traditional robotic mowers generally use a perimeter wire installed around the edge of a lawn. NOVABOT replaces that cable with a digital map. The owner defines the mowing area in the NOVABOT app, adds virtual boundaries and no-go zones, and allows the mower to plan routes within those limits.
Recommended Free Tools
The result is a battery-powered mower that can:
- Map one or more lawn zones
- Follow planned parallel mowing lines rather than relying only on random coverage
- Return automatically to its charging station
- Resume a mowing task after charging
- Detect and avoid some obstacles
- Be scheduled, paused, redirected, and monitored through the app
NOVABOT’s use of “AI vision” and similar language should be understood as a description of these concrete functions—not independent proof that it is superior to every competing mower.
#1 Best Overall
- Centimeter-Level RTK Cloud Accuracy: Commercial-grade RTK Cloud technology delivers centimeter-level positioning for this robotic lawn mower with no local antenna installation and no additional cloud costs.
- Auto Mapping for More Complete Coverage: Vision AI helps the robot lawn mower understand lawn shapes and boundary types, then automatically maps your yard for smooth paths, closer edge-following, and fuller coverage from day one.
- AI Obstacle Avoidance with Neural Processing: Vision AI recognizes and understands common yard objects, using a trained neural network and up to 10 trillion operations per second to help mowing stay smooth, safe, and uninterrupted.
- Infinite Zone Mowing & App Remote Control: Create unlimited mowing zones, set custom paths, define no-go areas, edit your map, and monitor your remote control lawn mower from the app anytime.
- Reliable Navigation Even in Shade: RTK Cloud provides centimeter-level accuracy in open areas, while V-SLAM sensor fusion with Vision AI helps maintain precise navigation in shaded or partially covered lawn spaces.
How wire-free navigation works
NOVABOT’s navigation system has several layers:
- RTK/GNSS positioning: Satellite systems—including BDS, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS—help estimate the mower’s location. RTK corrections are intended to improve positional accuracy.
- Visual-inertial navigation: Cameras and motion sensors help the mower track movement when satellite positioning is less reliable.
- Obstacle sensing: Cameras and ToF sensors scan for nearby objects. NOVABOT says its system can detect and avoid people, pets, trees, rocks, fences, and walls.
- Virtual mapping: The app stores lawn boundaries, separate zones, and no-go areas such as flower beds or ponds.
- Route planning: The mower works through mapped areas in planned lines, which can produce more systematic coverage than random-pattern machines.
For details on the navigation and sensor claims, see the official N2000 specifications.
Wire-free operation still requires a correctly positioned charging station, GNSS antenna or base-station equipment, app mapping, and a property where satellite and visual localization remain usable. Buildings, dense tree cover, narrow side yards, walls, and poorly positioned equipment can all make the system less dependable.
NOVABOT model comparison
| Model | Maintained area | Runtime | Cutting height | Vision and safety |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite-N1 | Up to 0.75 acre | Up to 180 minutes | 20–70 mm according to the comparison listing | Front camera; no safety-monitoring feature listed |
| N1000 | Up to 0.75 acre | Up to 180 minutes | 20–90 mm | 360-degree camera, front camera, and safety monitoring |
| N2000 | Up to 1.5 acres | Up to 240 minutes | 20–90 mm | 360-degree camera, front camera, and safety monitoring |
All three models are listed with a 220 mm cutting width and a maximum claimed slope of 45%, or approximately 24.2 degrees. A 45% grade is not a 45-degree slope: the percentage describes vertical rise compared with horizontal distance, while degrees describe the angle itself.

What setup involves
Expect setup to be more involved than simply placing a mower on the grass:
- Choose a charging-station location with a clear, practical approach and suitable satellite visibility.
- Install and position the GNSS antenna or base-station equipment according to the current instructions.
- Charge the mower and pair it with the NOVABOT app.
- Use the app to create a virtual boundary around each lawn area.
- Map separate front, back, side, or disconnected zones where supported.
- Add no-go zones around ponds, flower beds, roads, play areas, gravel, drop-offs, exposed roots, and other hazards.
- Set cutting height, schedule, zone priority, and mowing behaviour.
- Run supervised test sessions before allowing scheduled unattended mowing.
An earlier N1000 manual describes app-based mapping and multiple maps, but app labels can change. Confirm the exact workflow in the latest manual and app version before installation.
Can NOVABOT handle difficult lawns?
NOVABOT is marketed for slopes, rough terrain, tall or dense grass, shade, narrow areas, angled corners, and unfenced lawns. The manufacturer also claims obstacle detection and IPX5 water resistance, including water-hose cleaning. These are capability claims, not guarantees for every property or weather condition.
A maximum slope rating does not mean a mower will reliably climb every wet, soft, irregular, or diagonally traversed slope. Traction, grass length, soil condition, wheel loading, and the direction of travel matter. Similarly, dense shade may be manageable for the vision system but can also reduce satellite reception.

An independent review reported successful straight-line mowing, mapping, and tested obstacle avoidance, including operation in less-than-ideal RTK conditions. It also noted that the tested N1000’s maximum cutting height was relatively short at 70 mm. That short-term evidence supports the basic concept, but it does not establish long-term durability, universal reliability, or service quality.
Obstacle avoidance is useful, not foolproof
Obstacle detection reduces the need for a perfectly cleared lawn, but it should not replace preparation or supervision. Cameras and ToF sensors may struggle with:
- Small toys, balls, hoses, sticks, and tools
- Low objects hidden by tall grass
- Wet or muddy ground
- Tree roots, shallow depressions, and sharp lawn edges
- Objects in glare or deep shadow
- Items that move after mapping
- Children or pets interacting with the mower
- Narrow passages with insufficient turning space
Keep people and animals away during initial testing, remove loose objects before mowing, and use no-go zones around water, roads, steep drops, and play areas. Never treat an obstacle-avoidance claim as a promise that collisions or blade hazards are impossible.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What happens when satellite positioning is weak?
This is the central trade-off of wire-free mowing. Trees, buildings, fences, walls, narrow corridors, steep terrain, antenna obstruction, and interference can weaken localization. NOVABOT combines RTK/GNSS with visual-inertial navigation, and independent testing found the combination useful in imperfect RTK conditions. However, the available evidence does not prove flawless operation in every difficult environment.
Poor localization can produce incomplete mapping, inaccurate boundaries, pauses, failure to enter a zone, or a mower that becomes stuck. If your property contains heavily enclosed lawns or several narrow corridors, compare the proposed dock and antenna locations carefully before buying.
Is NOVABOT genuinely autonomous?
Yes—but in the normal robot-mower sense. After setup, it can follow a schedule, mow mapped zones, avoid detected obstacles, return to charge, and resume work. It is not a zero-supervision landscaping service.
The owner remains responsible for preparing the lawn, inspecting the first mowing sessions, maintaining blades and sensors, clearing hazards, checking maps, responding to alerts, and recovering the mower if it becomes trapped or faults. “Autonomous after setup” is a more accurate expectation than “maintenance-free.”
The app and connected ownership
The official app listing describes map creation and editing, obstacle-area management, start/pause/end controls, return-to-charger commands, status information, notifications, and over-the-air updates.
Before purchase, confirm the details that are not fully established by the available product information:
- Whether an account is required
- Whether Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular service, or cloud access is needed
- Whether remote control works away from the home network
- Whether mowing continues during an internet outage
- How updates are delivered and whether they are mandatory
- How camera data and lawn maps are stored and protected
These details can affect long-term ownership just as much as cutting performance.

The mower crosses or misreads a boundary
Stop the mower and inspect the antenna, charging-station area, and map. Check whether the boundary was mapped too close to a wall, pond, road, flower bed, or drop-off. Add clearance, remap the affected zone, and supervise a complete test run before restoring the schedule.
The mower becomes stuck
Soft soil, potholes, exposed roots, wet grass, steep or diagonal terrain, narrow turning areas, tall grass, and debris are common possibilities. Remove the mower safely, inspect its wheels, blade deck, and sensors, then clear the area or add a no-go zone. More frequent mowing or a higher initial cutting height may also help.

Coverage is incomplete
Check for incomplete mapping, obstacles, poor GPS signal, or a zone the mower cannot enter. The N2000 manual specifically identifies incomplete mapping, obstacles, and poor GPS signal as possible causes of incomplete mowing or getting stuck.
The mower will not charge
Inspect the charging contacts, dock alignment, power supply, and the approach to the station. Remove debris from the contacts and ensure the mower can reach the dock without crossing an obstruction.

NOVABOT versus alternatives
A conventional boundary-wire mower may be the safer choice when predictable perimeter control and an established service network matter more than avoiding installation work. Premium established brands such as Husqvarna Automower are worth comparing, although model-specific prices and boundary-wire requirements vary.
For a wire-free comparison, examine Mammotion LUBA and Segway Navimow. Compare the exact model’s slope rating, antenna requirements, mapping behaviour, app and subscription terms, service arrangements, and current availability rather than assuming all RTK mowers perform alike.
Who should buy NOVABOT?
NOVABOT is potentially a good fit if your lawn is within the model’s maintained-area rating, has a workable antenna location, and benefits from multi-zone mapping and straight-line mowing. It is especially appealing if avoiding buried wire is a high priority and you are comfortable testing a connected device.
It may be a poor fit if the lawn is heavily enclosed by trees or buildings, contains many narrow or disconnected passages, has wet steep slopes or soft ground, or requires frequent interaction with children and pets. Buyers who need immediate delivery, extensive long-term reliability evidence, or a mature repair network should investigate those points before paying.
Verdict
NOVABOT is a credible wire-free robotic-mower system, and its combination of RTK/GNSS, visual navigation, mapping, and camera-based sensing addresses genuine installation and convenience problems. Its strongest advantage is eliminating perimeter-wire installation while retaining planned mowing, multi-zone control, automatic charging, and task resumption.
The technology is not a guarantee of perfect boundary control or obstacle detection. NOVABOT is best viewed as an autonomous mower that still requires thoughtful installation, lawn preparation, early supervision, and ongoing maintenance. If your property has open satellite visibility and clearly defined grass areas, it could be a strong option. If localization is likely to be difficult or support certainty is essential, compare a conventional boundary-wire system or another established wire-free mower first.
