Mawani says the system is intended to help teams plan cargo, allocate equipment and spot potential delays earlier. The launch announcement describes expected functions and benefits, but reports no measured post-launch performance results.
What the new terminal system is intended to do
A TOS coordinates information and workflows involved in terminal operations. At SGP’s Dammam multipurpose terminals, Mawani says the new system gives operations teams data to support decisions as cargo and equipment move through the facility.
- Cargo planning: provide operational data to help teams plan cargo movements.
- Equipment allocation: support decisions about where equipment is needed.
- Delay identification: help teams identify possible delays earlier.
- Coordination: reduce manual processes and help teams respond faster when operational requirements change.
These are functions and aims described by Mawani in its October 5, 2026 announcement, not independently reported performance gains.
What has—and has not—been disclosed
Mawani’s launch announcement does not identify the TOS vendor or product, describe its technical architecture, state the implementation timetable, or provide quantified results. It therefore does not establish how much the system has reduced delays, manual work or equipment idle time, if at all.
The announcement also does not specify whether the system covers every activity at the port or only particular workflows within SGP’s multipurpose terminals. Claims about broader deployment or measured efficiency improvements would go beyond the information released.
How the launch fits SGP’s terminal program
The TOS launch forms part of a broader operating and investment context. In a June 2025 company release, SGP said it had received four 20-year concessions from Mawani for multipurpose terminals at four ports:
Rank #2
| Port | Concession term |
|---|---|
| King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam | 20 years |
| Jubail Commercial Port | 20 years |
| King Fahad Industrial Port, Jubail | 20 years |
| Ras Al-Khair Port | 20 years |
SGP said it planned to invest more than SAR 700 million to upgrade the terminals and purchase equipment, and to integrate them with its existing Dammam and Riyadh operations. A later company post described an investment of more than SAR 700 million (USD 187 million) in equipment, systems and services, and said SGP assumed operatorship of the four terminals on July 1, 2025. These company statements provide context for the TOS launch, but do not specify that the system is funded by or limited to a particular part of the investment.
In its 2025 release, SGP also reported handling more than 4 million TEUs across its seaport and inland-terminal ecosystem in 2024. That figure describes the wider ecosystem, not throughput at the Dammam multipurpose terminals alone.

How this relates to Mawani’s earlier digital-port initiatives
Mawani announced a Smart Ports initiative in March 2022 involving 5G deployment, port automation, ICT and infrastructure services, cloud computing, cybersecurity, applications and platforms. Separately, Mawani and the Saudi Company for Exchanging Digital Information (Tabadul) signed a 2022 memorandum of understanding concerning port-management systems, smart gates and modernization of port procedures.
Those initiatives show that port digitization has been an established goal, but the available announcements do not say that SGP’s 2026 TOS is an outcome of either the Smart Ports agreements or the Tabadul memorandum.
