Marc Ecko’s Stronghold estate in Bernardsville, New Jersey, was relisted for just under $10 million, according to a Realtor.com report published October 24, 2025. That was more than $3.75 million below its previous asking price of $13.75 million. The report is a dated listing snapshot, not confirmation that the property remains available in October 2026.
What was the asking price, and how did it change?
Realtor.com reported that Stronghold returned to the market for just under $10 million in October 2025. The article said the home had been offered at $13.75 million before being removed from the market in July 2025, making the new ask a reduction of more than $3.75 million. Where is Stronghold, and what is the estate?
Stronghold is a roughly 20,000-square-foot stone mansion in Bernardsville, New Jersey, on more than 30 acres, about 40 miles southwest of Manhattan, according to Realtor.com. Forbes described the property as more than 32 acres in its 2023 feature. The house was built in 1886 for banker James Coleman Drayton and his wife, Charlotte Augusta Astor, and designed by architect George B. Post. Charlotte was the daughter of Caroline Schermerhorn Astor and William Backhouse Astor Jr.

What gives the house its historic character?
The mansion’s exterior is distinguished by a central tower, wrought-iron balconies and a wraparound porch. Its scale and stone construction reflect its late-19th-century origins, while details inside preserve portions of the original craftsmanship. Forbes’ 2023 account describes retained quarter-sawn oak and carved millwork, alongside a five-story tower and an elevator.
The house’s name and prominent tower make it visually striking, but its restoration also set out to keep historic fabric visible rather than make the interior feel like a period replica. In the 2023 Forbes feature, Ecko recalled his first walk through the unfinished property: “I was instantly seduced.”

Forbes reported in 2023 that Ecko and his wife, Allison Rojas, spent seven years restoring the property. The account describes a balance between retaining original woodwork and finishes and introducing contemporary art, color and modern systems. It also notes a modernized kitchen, HVAC and smart-home infrastructure. Those details reflect Forbes’ 2023 reporting, not an independent inspection of the property or a new assessment of its present condition.
The restoration’s central challenge was to make a large historic house function as a modern home without erasing its architectural identity. Retained oak and carved millwork provide continuity with the original interiors; updated systems and contemporary design address daily use. The contrast between old and new is part of what makes Stronghold more than a large estate listing.

Realtor.com described the main house as having seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. Its report also listed Tiffany stained glass, a solarium, a carriage house used as a guest cottage, a pool and pool house, and additional outbuildings. A detached basketball court has a modern gym on its second level.
Forbes’ 2023 feature described the carriage house as a three-bedroom guest residence on a separate 10-acre lot. The property coverage and listing details describe amenities and configuration as reported at those times; they do not substitute for a current listing or inspection.
What is known about the relisting’s current status?
The available reporting establishes that Realtor.com said Stronghold was relisted in October 2025 after being removed from the market in July while offered at $13.75 million. It does not establish whether the property is still listed in October 2026 or whether it has since sold. Realtor.com also reported that Ecko’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment, so the relisting should be attributed to the outlet’s account rather than presented as Ecko’s personal confirmation.
