The City of Mandurah received a $1.32 million grant through the State Government’s 2025–26 CoastWA program to renew part of the Town Beach seawall and help protect the coast from erosion. The City scheduled construction for February to May 2026; its March 2026 council report recorded the project at 10% complete, and the sources cited here do not confirm a later finish.
What the grant funds
The State Government awarded Mandurah $1.32 million through the 2025–26 CoastWA program for Town Beach seawall renewal and coastal erosion protection. That figure is the grant amount, not a confirmed total project cost. The government said the wider CoastWA round allocated $3.01 million across 27 coastal projects, with more than $3.36 million in partner cash or in-kind contributions. Government of Western Australia, 22 July 2025
Why the seawall is being renewed
The existing limestone seawall was built in the late 1990s and has suffered storm damage that required repeated emergency repairs. The City cited risks to public safety and nearby infrastructure as reasons for the work. Assets identified for protection include the dual-use path, carparks and Seashells Resort. What the renewal involves
Work area
The City’s January 2026 notice describes renewal of approximately 200 metres of seawall. The 2025 local report described the existing limestone wall as approximately 380 metres long. These figures refer to different scopes: the planned renewal covers a section of the broader wall. The reported work area runs from the Town Beach carpark on Breakwater Parade, along the front of Seashells Resort, toward the other Town Beach carpark off Dolphin Drive. - Stockpile limestone for reuse and install new reinforcement materials.
- Build a new access stairway, then complete landscaping, fencing and revegetation near the Town Beach Carpark.
The City’s project notice says the works were scheduled before winter because beach conditions would prevent machinery access. The timing was also adjusted to preserve access through the school holiday period.

The City announced a February–May 2026 construction window. In the City’s March 2026 council agenda, a February financial report listed the Town Beach Seawall Renewal at 10% construction complete. That is a dated progress snapshot; the sources cited here do not establish whether the project finished by May 2026 or provide a final cost or later status.
