Its two 100-mm arms unfold into a 200-mm ruler and add a measuring wheel, protractor, circle guide, claimed 0.1-mm-graduation caliper, bubble level, marking pencil, bottle opener, box-opening tip and 1/4-inch bit socket.
That combination could be useful for makers, designers and light DIY work. However, the Tiruler is too short for many construction tasks, lacks pliers and a proper knife, and has no independently verified accuracy testing in the available coverage.

What is the MakerPi Tiruler?
The Tiruler is a folding titanium-bodied multifunction ruler made by Hong Kong-based MakerPi Tools. It was promoted through a Kickstarter campaign that ran from March 12 to April 11, 2025. The campaign page records 1,498 backers and HK$1,559,208 pledged against a HK$20,000 goal.

MakerPi describes the body as Cr5 or Grade 5 titanium, although the available coverage does not include independent material verification. The intended role is a compact measurement, marking and drafting system with a few light-duty repair features.

Each arm is approximately 100 mm (3.94 inches) long. Opened out, the ruler measures about 200 mm (7.88 inches). Magnets help keep the arms together when folded, and promotional material describes a 30-degree angled measurement surface intended to improve viewing comfort.
The ten functions, explained
The “ten-function” description is the maker’s feature count rather than an industry-standard classification. It combines core measuring instruments with convenience features and different measurement scales.

Ruler, protractor and measuring wheel
The straight ruler is the Tiruler’s foundation. It is convenient for short cuts, hardware, templates and layout marks, but a 200-mm maximum is restrictive on a construction site. It will not replace a tape measure, longer steel rule, framing square or combination square when working on boards, sheet goods or larger assemblies.
The hinge and wheel assembly also functions as a claimed 180-degree protractor. That is useful for quick angle layout, especially in a compact maker’s kit. As with any small protractor, the result depends on accurately positioning the pivot and keeping the reference edge against the work.

The measuring wheel is intended for curved or irregular surfaces that a rigid ruler cannot easily follow. One complete rotation is claimed to represent 100 mm, with a spring mechanism producing an audible click at each rotation. A silicone ring is intended to improve friction. In practice, a rolling wheel should be treated as a convenient practical estimator rather than a substitute for a calibrated measuring instrument: smooth, wet, dusty or textured surfaces can cause slip, while lifting or changing pressure can alter the result. The available sources provide the design claims but no independent accuracy test. New Atlas describes the wheel and folding mechanism in its product coverage.
What does the built-in caliper really tell you?
The Tiruler includes a sliding vernier-style caliper. Promotional material claims a dual-scale arrangement with readings down to 0.1 mm. That specification needs careful interpretation.
- Resolution or graduation is the smallest increment shown by the scale.
- Accuracy is how close the reading is to the true dimension.
- Repeatability is whether repeated measurements agree.
A 0.1-mm graduation does not prove 0.1-mm accuracy. The available coverage does not establish the caliper’s calibrated accuracy, jaw parallelism, measuring range, manufacturing tolerances or performance against a reference instrument. Before relying on it for close-fit construction or machine work, close the jaws and check the zero, repeat the measurement several times, and compare it with a known-good caliper.
For routine checks such as screw diameters, small stock and rough component sizing, the feature may be useful. For precision metrology, use a dedicated caliper from an established metrology supplier such as Mitutoyo.

Pencil, circle guide and small utility tools
The magnetic pencil is one of the more practical additions because measurement is often followed immediately by marking. It stores in the ruler and is described as having an “everlasting” graphite tip. The opposite end is blunt and promoted for opening cardboard. That may be preferable to carrying a blade for packaging, but it will not handle heavy cartons, strapping or general cutting safely or efficiently.
The circle guide uses holes in the ruler arm. Insert a pencil or pen and swing the tool around its pivot to draw an arc. It is suitable for quick templates, craft work and basic layout, but it is not an infinitely adjustable compass and does not offer the range or control of a dedicated drafting compass.
The bubble level is useful for a quick indication on a small object. The bottle opener is a convenience feature. The 1/4-inch socket can accept standard 6.35-mm hex bits, which is worthwhile if you already carry bits, but the thin compact body should not be treated like a full-size driver or high-torque wrench.

Campaign material also describes optional tritium-tube slots, laser engraving, a leather case and finish choices such as sandblasting or polishing. These should be treated as optional extras unless the specific reward or purchase listing says otherwise. Tritium inserts may also be subject to local laws and shipping restrictions.

Best fit: makers, designers and compact layout kits
The Tiruler makes the most sense when the user repeatedly needs short measurements, quick marks, angle checks and a compact circle guide. It can reduce pocket clutter for a designer, hobby engineer, model maker or DIY user who already carries a separate tape measure for larger work.
Useful for measurement-focused EDC
Most conventional multitools prioritize pliers, blades and drivers. The Tiruler reverses that priority. It is a better fit for someone who values a ruler, marking pencil and layout functions more than wire cutting or emergency repairs.

It does not provide pliers, wire cutters, a locking blade, saw or a complete driver set. A conventional tool such as the Leatherman Wave+ is a more logical choice when the work usually involves gripping, cutting, fastening and repair. For a smaller everyday tool, the Leatherman Micra emphasizes scissors and pocket tasks rather than measurement.

Not a precision-instrument replacement
The Tiruler’s caliper and wheel may be convenient, but the available evidence does not establish professional accuracy. Use a dedicated caliper for dimensional work and a dedicated rule, square or level when the tool’s geometry and repeatability matter. Dedicated layout tools from suppliers such as Stanley will generally be easier to use for larger construction tasks.
Limitations to check before relying on it
- Hinge play: Looseness could affect straight-edge alignment, angle readings, circle layout and caliper measurements.
- Scale alignment: The two arms must line up accurately when opened; even a small offset matters for layout.
- Caliper zero: The jaws should close fully and read zero. If they do not, measurements need correction or the tool needs service.
- Wheel slip: Test rolling consistency on the actual surface rather than assuming that one rotation always produces a reliable 100-mm result.
- Limited circle radii: The holes determine the available radii, so the guide cannot replace a full compass.
- Magnetic debris: The retaining magnets may attract metal filings and other debris.
- Bit retention and torque: Check that bits fit securely, and avoid applying torque beyond what the compact body and socket are designed to withstand.
- Pencil wear: An “everlasting” label does not mean unlimited service life. Replacement-tip availability should be confirmed before purchase.
- Finish wear: A sandblasted finish may provide grip but show dirt, while polished titanium can show scratches.
- Crowdfunding risk: Funding success does not by itself guarantee delivery, consistent production quality, warranty support or ongoing replacement parts.

Verdict
The MakerPi Tiruler is best understood as a pocket drafting and measurement system with multitool extras. Its folding 200-mm ruler, measuring wheel, protractor, circle guide and integrated pencil address a real use case: carrying compact layout tools for short, light-duty jobs.
It is not a Leatherman substitute, a full-size construction ruler, a professional caliper or a complete repair kit. The caliper and wheel specifications remain maker claims without independent accuracy testing, and current retail availability and support were not confirmed by August 16, 2026. Buy it only if the measurement-and-layout functions are genuinely more valuable to you than pliers, cutters and a blade—and verify the current seller, fulfilment status, warranty and replacement parts before paying.
