Construction on the proposed Maisey O’Donnell Dryland Training Room at Concord’s Beede Swim and Fitness Center had not been confirmed as starting in fall 2026 in the latest available reporting. A May 28, 2026 update said the project was still in schematic design while the team worked through parking and permitting issues. A spring or summer 2027 opening was described as possible, not guaranteed.
What the project is
The proposed facility is a dedicated dryland diving training room at the Beede Swim and Fitness Center in Concord, Massachusetts. “Dryland” means practicing diving skills away from the pool, using equipment that lets athletes rehearse takeoffs, body position, spotting and landings under controlled conditions.

The room is intended to honor Maisey O’Donnell, a Concord-Carlisle student and diver who trained at Beede. School committee materials describe a facility intended to welcome students across skill levels, while the family has characterized the planned space as a fun place for training.
The Community Foundation for MetroWest’s fund description says Maisey spent countless hours training at Beede, “a community recreation center with a pool.” The same fund page describes an initial seasonal, open-air concept, with a longer-term vision of roofing and improving the space for year-round use. That description is a fundraising vision, not confirmation of the final approved design.

Why a fall 2026 start cannot be stated as fact
The most recent schedule account located for this project, published May 28, 2026, reported that the design team was in schematic design. The team was also studying parking changes and related permitting questions. That report said a spring or summer 2027 opening might be possible if approvals moved quickly.
Earlier coverage reported a Thanksgiving 2026 opening hope from the family. That was a target rather than a municipal deadline. Neither the May report nor the other available records confirms that construction began in fall 2026, that permits were issued, or that an opening date was approved.

For the schedule to become firm, the project still needs a completed design, resolution of site and parking requirements, required permits and an actual construction authorization. Any new announcement from the Town of Concord, Concord-Carlisle schools or the project team should be checked against those milestones.

Parking and permitting are key remaining issues
April 2026 school committee minutes said the proposed 1,000-square-foot addition raised questions about parking requirements and impervious surface. Options including a waiver or variance were being explored. The May account added that any changes involving school parking would require committee approval.

In January 2026, reporting said the Select Board approved an agreement allowing nonprofit C.C. Pools Inc. to hire contractors and build the addition. That agreement did not eliminate the need for permits, and it did not establish a construction start or opening date.

These are specialized training systems. An ordinary recreational trampoline is not established by the project documents as a safe substitute for a diving spotting system, board or landing pit.

What the published cost and fundraising figures mean
A September 2025 project presentation gave a preliminary construction estimate of $750,000 to $950,000 for a proposed 21-by-50-foot addition. It said the amount would depend on the final design, materials, site preparation and finishes.
Separately, Concord-Carlisle School Committee minutes dated August 20, 2025 recorded more than $400,000 raised as of August 14, 2025, against a stated fundraising goal of $750,000 to $1 million. Those numbers come from different documents and dates. They should not be combined into a single current budget, and the available records do not establish today’s fundraising total or final project price.

What to watch for next
- A published schematic or final design showing whether the seasonal open-air concept changes.
- School committee action on parking or site changes.
- Town permits, waivers or variances addressing parking and impervious-surface requirements.
- A confirmed contractor mobilization or building permit, which would establish an actual construction start.
- A revised opening schedule tied to those approvals rather than a family fundraising target.
Until those records appear, the accurate description is that the Maisey O’Donnell training center remains a proposed project in design and permitting review. A spring or summer 2027 opening was possible in the May 2026 account, but no firm completion date had been established.
