What the index does—and does not—tell you
Madison’s describes its broader weekly reporting as covering Canadian and US construction framing dimension lumber and panel wholesaler prices, published 50 weeks per year. The October 2 figure is therefore useful as a broad market reference, but it is not a price for a particular board, species, grade, region, delivery, or transaction.
The available release does not explain how the index is calculated or define its “mfbm” notation. The single reading also cannot establish a forecast or determine what a builder will pay locally. For a project estimate, use a current supplier quote that matches the required product, grade, quantity, location, and delivery terms.
