Lumber says eligible W-2 workers can request up to $400 of earned pay per pay period through Branch On-Demand Pay in the Lumber app. The integration is designed to let workers access pay before payday without requiring employers to pre-fund advances or change payroll, according to Lumber’s published terms.
How Lumber’s Branch earned wage access works
Workers create a Branch account through the Lumber app, then continue working and picking up shifts. Eligible workers may request an advance against earned pay, up to Lumber’s stated limit of $400 per pay period. The limit is subject to eligibility and the employer enabling the feature; it is not a guarantee that every worker can withdraw the full amount.
Lumber says employers do not pay for the service, pre-fund advances or need to make payroll changes. Repayment is collected automatically from the worker’s checking account when Branch detects the next recurring payroll deposit. These are the terms Lumber publishes for this integration; workers should check the app for the specific amount available to them and the repayment details.
What does it cost workers?
Lumber lists two transfer options for this integration:

The fee applies to the instant option, not the standard transfer, under Lumber’s published terms. Confirm the amount and available delivery choices in the app before requesting an advance.
What does it cost the employer, and does it change payroll?
Lumber says the service costs employers nothing, requires no employer pre-funding and does not require payroll changes. That describes the arrangement Lumber advertises for this integration; the page does not explain whether an employer may have other costs associated with its existing systems or agreements.

Who is eligible?
Lumber says the offering is for W-2 workers who are at least 18, complete identity verification and work for an employer that enables the feature. Eligibility and the amount available may depend on the worker’s circumstances and the employer’s participation.
Is it available in every state?
Lumber says Branch earned wage access is available in 49 states, excluding Connecticut. It also notes that state-specific fee caps may apply in Indiana, Maryland and Wisconsin. Availability and fees can change, so workers should verify their eligibility and current terms in the Lumber app or with Lumber or Branch.

Is Lumber using Branch Core or Flex?
Branch describes two ways to offer earned wage access, but Lumber’s published page does not identify which configuration it selected.
Branch Core
Branch says Core is built with time-and-attendance or payroll integration. Branch describes Core as also offering a no-cost instant transfer to the Branch App, in addition to transfer options that may be available for other configurations. That broader description should not be treated as a promise that the option is included in Lumber’s implementation.

Branch Flex
Branch says Flex can be embedded in an existing workplace app using a roster, without payroll integration; Branch manages the worker experience, repayment and support. Branch announced Flex on July 14, 2026, describing it as a way to reduce setup and integration requirements. Lumber’s page does not confirm that its implementation uses Flex.

Branch promotes potential workforce benefits on its own pages, including higher shift coverage, retention and job-application interest. Those are vendor claims, not verified outcomes for Lumber customers. The available Lumber-specific information does not establish how the partnership has affected hiring, retention, shift coverage or workers’ finances.
For construction employers and workers, the practical details to check are the worker’s available advance, the delivery fee and timing, the automatic repayment arrangement, and whether the employer has enabled the feature. The published terms describe an optional way to access some earned pay early, not a change to the worker’s regular payday.
