LG’s Transparent OLED TV Will Put a Very Visible $60,000 Hole in Your Wallet

Yes, LG really sells it. The 77-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED T (model OLED77T4PUA) is a commercially offered transparent 4K OLED television listed in the United States at $59,999.99. It is not merely a CES prototype—but it is also not a completely wireless, invisible or installation-free TV.

For construction, remodeling and luxury-interior projects, the OLED T is best understood as a piece of architectural furniture: a motorized, freestanding display that can divide a room, sit in front of a window or serve as a design centerpiece. Its premium pays mainly for that unusual installation concept, not for picture quality that is proportionally better than a conventional OLED.

What is LG’s transparent OLED T?

LG’s SIGNATURE OLED T is a 2024, 77-inch 4K OLED television with a retractable black shade behind the transparent panel. With the shade retracted, viewers can see the room or objects behind the display. With the shade deployed, the television operates more like a conventional opaque OLED.

LG and CES describe it as the first 77-inch transparent 4K OLED television with wireless video and audio transmission. That “world’s first” language is a claim attributed to LG and CES, not a universal claim that LG invented every form of transparent display.

The TV supports special transparent content designed to make graphics appear to float in the room. The effect is most distinctive in carefully designed spaces with an uncluttered, controlled background. It should not be confused with an invisible sheet of glass: the panel, frame, stand and motorized mechanism remain substantial physical objects.

See LG’s current U.S. product listing.

Is it actually available?

LG announced U.S. availability on December 18, 2024, through LG.com and selected authorized retailers, including Best Buy and Video & Audio Center. The product page currently lists it as made to order with an approximately six-week delivery estimate.

That means the OLED T is commercially offered and orderable, but it should not be treated like a typical stocked television that can be collected from a showroom the same day. Delivery timing, return terms and installation arrangements need to be confirmed before a project is scheduled around it.

Why does it cost roughly $60,000?

The television’s conventional specifications do not explain the entire price. A 77-inch 4K OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and smart-TV features is available elsewhere for a small fraction of the cost.

The premium is tied to a combination of:

  • A specialized transparent OLED panel.
  • A motorized retractable black shade that changes the display from transparent to opaque.
  • A furniture-like freestanding structure rather than a simple wall-mounted panel.
  • The Zero Connect wireless video and audio system.
  • Luxury positioning and what is likely to be limited-volume production.

LG does not publish a cost breakdown showing how much each component contributes. The practical conclusion is clearer: this is a design and installation purchase first, and a conventional picture-quality upgrade second.

“Wireless” does not mean cable-free

The included Zero Connect Box accepts connected sources and sends video and audio wirelessly to the TV. LG states that it can transmit up to a 4K 120Hz signal from as far as 30 feet away.

There are important construction and installation qualifications:

  • The box must have a direct line of sight to the television’s wireless receiver.
  • It must be within LG’s specified maximum distance.
  • It should not be placed inside an enclosure.
  • LG specifies that the box be positioned lower than the TV’s wireless receiver.
  • Both the television and the Zero Connect Box require their own power connections.

A cabinet hidden behind a wall, an enclosed media console or an obstructed location may cause connectivity problems. A careful room plan should identify the box location, power outlets and clear signal path before framing, millwork or finish work begins.

Installation is closer to a furniture project than a normal TV install

LG lists the following U.S. dimensions and weights:

  • TV without stand: 69.6 × 41.1 × 10.3 inches
  • TV with stand: 69.6 × 64.3 × 25.1 inches
  • Weight without stand: 132.9 pounds
  • Weight with stand: 154.5 pounds
  • Packaged dimensions: 82.7 × 54.3 × 23.8 inches
  • Packaged weight: 284.4 pounds

The stand makes the complete unit nearly 64 inches tall and more than 25 inches deep. That affects sightlines, circulation, floor placement and the relationship to nearby cabinetry. On a construction project, the packaged weight and dimensions also raise practical questions about:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Door and hallway clearances.
  • Elevator capacity and loading access.
  • Stairways, turns and ceiling height.
  • Floor protection and load distribution.
  • Final placement before surrounding millwork is closed in.
  • Service access for the motorized shade and electronics.

LG’s modular shelves are sold separately, so the furniture configuration shown in promotional imagery should not automatically be assumed to be included in the $59,999.99 television price. Confirm the exact package with the retailer and account for any custom cabinetry or architectural surround separately.

What transparent mode looks like in a real room

The transparent effect depends on the content, the room and the background behind the screen. Bright graphics and carefully designed ambient content can make the display visually recede. Dark movie scenes, detailed backgrounds, glare or a cluttered room can make the effect less convincing.

  • ULTIMATE GAMEPLAY: Delivers smooth, responsive gaming with a 0.1ms response time, up to 165Hz⁵ refresh rate, NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync Premium and VRR.

That is an environmental consideration rather than a published defect measurement. LG’s product materials establish the transparent and opaque operating modes, but they do not establish that transparent mode delivers the same black levels, HDR impact or perceived contrast as opaque mode in every room.

For films, HDR programming and other content where contrast is the priority, deploying the black shade is the logical choice. Transparent mode is primarily the architectural feature: it lets the screen participate in the room rather than behave like a conventional black rectangle.

Construction considerations before ordering

  1. Confirm the exact model. The U.S. product is OLED77T4PUA.
  2. Plan the delivery path. The packaged unit weighs 284.4 pounds and measures 82.7 × 54.3 × 23.8 inches.
  3. Reserve power. The display and Zero Connect Box both need power.
  4. Plan the wireless line of sight. Keep the box in an open location, below the receiver and within 30 feet.
  5. Allow service access. Do not permanently bury the motorized shade, stand mechanism or electronics behind inaccessible finishes.
  6. Coordinate the final footprint. The stand is 25.1 inches deep and the complete TV is 64.3 inches tall.
  7. Clarify accessories. Modular shelves and custom furniture elements may be separate purchases.
  8. Confirm delivery timing. LG’s approximately six-week estimate is not a guaranteed project date.
  9. Review commercial terms. Check freight, white-glove delivery, installation, cancellation, return and damage policies with the seller.
  10. Check the warranty. LG’s U.S. support listing specifies one year for parts and one year for labor.

Is it suitable for outdoor construction or patio projects?

No. LG’s product-page support response says the OLED T is not an outdoor television. Its transparent panel does not make it suitable for patios, exposed window installations, outdoor venues or other locations subject to weather and uncontrolled environmental conditions.

Who should buy the OLED T?

The product makes the most sense when the design problem is more important than the price-to-performance calculation. Potentially suitable projects include:

  • Luxury residences where the TV must visually recede when not in use.
  • Room-divider installations and open-plan interiors.
  • Hotel, hospitality and showroom environments.
  • Gallery-like spaces that use digital content as part of the architecture.
  • Clients seeking a rare conversation piece and accepting a substantial design premium.

It is a poor fit for most buyers who primarily want the best gaming performance, HDR image, color accuracy or screen size per dollar. A conventional LG OLED can provide the core OLED viewing experience at a small fraction of the cost.

More rational alternatives

LG OLED evo W6

For a design-led installation without transparency, LG’s 2026 77-inch OLED evo W6 is the closest alternative in concept. It uses wireless 4K connectivity through a Zero Connect Box, but it is a conventional opaque OLED. LG lists the 77-inch W6 as starting at $5,499.99—roughly one-tenth of the OLED T’s listed price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The W6 cannot create the see-through display effect, but it may solve the more common design requirement: keeping source hardware and signal cables away from a thin, premium display.

See the LG W6 product page and LG’s pricing announcement.

Conventional LG OLED televisions

LG’s regular OLED lineup is the better choice for buyers seeking OLED contrast, streaming, gaming and cinematic viewing without paying for transparency. Exact prices change with model, size and promotions, so compare the current models on LG’s U.S. OLED lineup rather than relying on an old price.

Commercial transparent displays

Businesses, museums, retailers and hospitality designers may also encounter transparent OLED panels from LG Display and other commercial suppliers. These are not automatically drop-in replacements for the OLED T. A commercial panel may require a controller, enclosure, media player, mounting system, specialist installation and commercial service agreement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

LG Display’s transparent OLED information describes the display category, not a complete residential television package.

The bottom line on LG’s $60,000 transparent TV

The LG SIGNATURE OLED T is a real, orderable U.S. product with a listed price of $59,999.99. Its transparent 77-inch OLED panel, retractable shade, freestanding design and wireless source connection make it an unusual architectural feature.

But the price does not buy a universally superior picture, a cable-free installation or a maintenance-free construction project. It buys rarity and spatial flexibility. For a luxury residence or hospitality installation built around that experience, the premium may be intentional. For nearly everyone else, the LG OLED evo W6 or a conventional OLED is the more defensible choice.
