The fastest supported method is to place the myQ app in your iPhone Dock or Android favorites, open it, and tap your garage-door tile. The current myQ app does not document a native iPhone or Android Home Screen widget for ordinary residential myQ devices. Chamberlain also currently lists direct Apple Home, Siri, and Siri Shortcuts control as unsupported.
What “from the Home Screen” means
These are different types of access:
| Method | What it does | Current myQ position |
|---|---|---|
| Phone Home Screen widget | Displays a control beside your app icons | Not currently documented as a native myQ control |
| Phone app icon | Opens myQ, where you operate the door | Supported and fastest practical option |
| myQ app Home screen | Shows connected devices as tiles inside myQ | Supported |
| Lock Screen or Control Center | Provides operating-system controls | Not established as a direct myQ control |
| Siri or Google Assistant | Operates the door by voice | Requires a currently supported integration |
| Vehicle display | Controls the door from a compatible car | Available only through supported vehicle integrations |
The tile on the myQ app’s Home screen is not an iOS or Android widget. Chamberlain’s current documentation describes the app as a tile-based interface, while its integrations documentation says direct Apple Home and Siri control is unsupported. See myQ’s app navigation guide and its current integrations list.

Set up the fastest official phone method
This method assumes your opener is already connected to myQ.
- Update the myQ app. Use the current version recommended through myQ Support.
- Sign in to the correct account. If you use multiple accounts, confirm that this is the email associated with the garage.
- Move myQ somewhere easy to reach.
- On iPhone, put it on the first Home Screen page or in the Dock.
- On Android, place it on the Home Screen or in the favorites tray.
- Open myQ and locate the garage-door tile on the Home screen.
- Tap the tile and choose the available Open or Close control.
- Complete any confirmation prompt. The exact label and confirmation behavior can vary by app version, opener, and door state.
- Wait for the status to update. Confirm that myQ shows the expected final door status rather than assuming the command succeeded.
myQ describes remote opening, closing, monitoring, and notifications as app features, but operation depends on your account, internet connection, garage Wi-Fi, opener, and myQ service being available. Details are available on the myQ app page.

- Never worry if the garage is closed at night by setting a close schedule
Make the garage-door tile larger inside myQ
If the control is hard to find in the app, you can customize the myQ app’s internal Home screen:
- Open myQ.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Home Screen Layout.
- Choose one of the available device-tile sizes.
- Tap Apply Your Layout.
Chamberlain currently lists three tile-size options. This makes the garage tile more prominent inside myQ; it does not add a widget to your phone’s operating-system Home Screen. See Home Screen Layout Customization.
Can an iPhone widget or Siri Shortcut control myQ?
Not through the ordinary myQ integration, according to Chamberlain’s current documentation. Apple does support running compatible Shortcuts from a Home Screen widget. However, Chamberlain lists Siri voice control and Siri Shortcuts as unsupported for direct myQ-device control.

A Shortcut that merely opens the myQ app is not a Shortcut that opens or closes the garage door. Apple notes that actions that cannot run directly in a widget may open the Shortcuts app instead. Therefore, an Apple Shortcuts widget can be a launch point only if the resulting action is genuinely supported; it should not be treated as a native myQ door-control button. Apple’s documentation is available in its Shortcuts guide.
Avoid relying on screen-coordinate tapping, Voice Control scripts, unofficial APIs, or similar workarounds as a normal solution. They can break after an iOS or app update, expose account credentials, and create an unreliable safety-critical control.
What about an Android widget?
Official myQ material documents the in-app tile interface but does not establish a current Android Home Screen widget that directly operates the garage door. Android support can vary by app release, phone manufacturer, and launcher, so do not assume that every Android device behaves identically.

To check your phone:
- Long-press an empty area of the Android Home Screen.
- Tap Widgets.
- Search for myQ.
- If no myQ widget or direct-control option appears, use the myQ app icon in your favorites or on the Home Screen.
The exact menu names may differ. If your device does not show an Add Widget option for myQ, use the supported app workflow rather than installing an unofficial widget.

A Home Screen shortcut cannot control a door that has not been properly connected to myQ. A compatible setup generally includes:
- A Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener with built-in Wi-Fi/myQ connectivity; or
- A compatible existing opener paired with Chamberlain Smart Garage Control or other supported myQ hardware;
- A myQ account and the myQ mobile app; and
- Reliable Wi-Fi in the garage.
Many opener brands made after 1993 may be compatible when they use standard safety sensors, but the year alone is not enough. Use the official myQ setup and compatibility resources before buying hardware. Smart Garage Control can add myQ connectivity to some existing openers, but it does not create a native phone widget or restore unsupported Siri and Apple Home control.

If myQ opens but the door will not respond
The garage door or tile is missing
- Confirm that you are signed in with the account email that owns the device.
- Check whether the opener or Smart Garage Control has Wi-Fi and appears in myQ.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Install any available app update.
- Review compatibility and setup information.
- Use myQ Support before deleting and re-adding the device.
The command does not complete
- Check your phone’s internet connection and the garage’s Wi-Fi connection.
- Wait if the door is already moving.
- Inspect the opener for error indicators, lockout mode, or vacation mode.
- Check that the safety sensors are aligned and unobstructed.
- Use myQ Diagnostics if your opener is an eligible Wi-Fi-enabled Chamberlain or LiftMaster model.
Do not repeatedly send commands when the status is uncertain. Check the physical door and the app’s updated status first.

If the app-launch method is not sufficient, you have two broad options:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Use a supported vehicle integration. myQ documents integrations for select Tesla, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, and other vehicles. These are car-display solutions, not phone widgets, and may be limited by model year, region, opener compatibility, connected-car plan, trial, or subscription. Check the relevant Tesla, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, or Hyundai page.
- Investigate a separate smart garage controller. Products from vendors such as Meross, Tailwind, or Genie Aladdin Connect may offer different widget or smart-home support. Verify current Apple Home, Siri, Google Home, Alexa, local-control, sensor, subscription, and opener-compatibility claims before purchasing.
Replacing an opener or adding hardware makes sense when you also need a new ecosystem, automation, or a failing opener. It is excessive if your only goal is to save the few seconds required to open the existing myQ app.
Best Value
- Power Outage Protection: Ensure uninterrupted access during power failures. Battery Backup keeps you in control when it matters most, for safety and peace of mind.
- Quiet Operation: A DC motor paired with a chain drive ensures dependable, lower-noise performance.
- Smart Access for Smart Homes: Wi-Fi connected garage door opener and the myQ app let you control your garage from your phone—anytime, anywhere. Built-in video monitoring helps you keep eyes on what matters, bringing modern convenience to your fingertips.
- Advanced Power for Bigger Demands: Choose the right horsepower for the job—from everyday reliability to higher-cycle performance. Our 3/4 HP motor* is designed for frequent use, delivering smooth, consistent operation and long-term durability.
- Bright When You Need It Most: Illuminate your entire garage with 2 Bulb lighting—providing front and rear coverage for safer, more complete visibility whenever you need it. Bulbs sold separately.
Use phone control safely
- Check that people, children, pets, vehicles, and objects are clear of the door before opening or closing it.
- Do not operate the door from a phone while driving.
- Keep a physical remote and know the manual-release procedure.
- Verify the final door position in myQ or by safely checking the door directly.
- Remember that remote control is dependent on connectivity, account access, the opener, and myQ service availability.
The practical answer
For an existing myQ-connected garage door, put the myQ app in your iPhone Dock or Android favorites and use its garage-door tile. You can enlarge that tile through Settings → Home Screen Layout, but it remains inside the app.
Chamberlain’s current documentation does not support a native ordinary myQ Home Screen widget or direct Apple Home, Siri, or Siri Shortcut control. Treat old HomeKit, Home Bridge, and unofficial automation tutorials cautiously, and verify current support before changing hardware or entrusting an automation with a moving garage door.
