Waterdrop’s tankless reverse-osmosis systems are best for buyers who want fast dispensing and a smaller under-sink footprint—not necessarily the lowest ownership cost. The G3P600 is the sensible starting point for many one- to four-person households; the G3P800 or X8 make more sense when faster filling or a better advertised wastewater ratio matters; and the X12 or X16 are premium-capacity choices for unusually heavy demand. If you mainly want better taste and chlorine reduction, a certified carbon filter may be the better-value solution.

Before buying, verify the exact model’s certification claims, inlet-pressure requirements, replacement-filter prices, cabinet clearance, drain connection, and electrical needs. Waterdrop sells several different systems under similar branding, and their specifications are not interchangeable.

What is a tankless reverse-osmosis system?

A conventional under-sink RO system sends treated water into a pressurized storage tank. When you open the faucet, the tank supplies the water, while the membrane slowly refills it. A tankless system produces RO water on demand instead. It combines prefilters, an RO membrane, a pump, electronic controls, and usually a dedicated faucet or display in a more compact assembly.

That design can free cabinet space and provide faster dispensing, but “tankless” does not mean wastewater-free, instant unlimited water, maintenance-free operation, or operation without electricity. Flow depends on incoming pressure, water temperature, feed-water quality, filter condition, and power.

Waterdrop G3P600 Tankless Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System, 600 GPD
  • [Trusted certifications]: Waterdrop G3P600 reverse osmosis system is certified against NSF/ANSI 58 for TDS reduction and NSF/ANSI 372 certified for lead-free material. Also it has been tested and certified against NSF 42 to reduce chlorine, bad taste and odor. The tankless reverse osmosis system is also certified by the Federal Communications Commission. Besides, it meets the EU Standards and UKCA Standards for safety
  • [8-stage filtration]: Tested by official third-party laboratory (SGS), the reverse osmosis system can effectively reduce TDS, chromium, PFAS, radium, fluoride, arsenic salt, iron, calcium, particles, chloride, chlorine and radioactive substances in your tap water. And our RO water filter system can reduce chemicals such as vinyl chloride, ethylhexyl acrylate, isobutylene, ethylene glycol, according to the reverse osmosis membrane technical manual
  • [Smart display faucet]: The tankless reverse osmosis system is built with a smart display faucet. For instance, the TDS monitor tells you the quality of your filtered water, while the filter life tracker shows how soon you need to replace your filter
  • [High capacity, 2:1 low drain ratio]: As an upgraded reverse osmosis system, this reverse osmosis water system produces 600 gallons of filtered water per day. By its low drain ratio, this system can produce only one cup of waste water for every two cups of pure water produced. Furthermore, with a fast and stable water flow rate, this RO system fills a 8 oz cup of water in 8 seconds, which is ideal for drinking and washing vegetables
  • [Tankless design]: Waterdrop G3P600 reverse osmosis system has a stylish look. This tankless design saves 70% under sink space. You can change a filter in 3 seconds without moving the system or using any tools. Note: This reverse osmosis system requires under-sink electricity

Waterdrop’s gallons-per-day figures are manufacturer-rated production capacities. A 600-GPD rating is not a promise that a household faucet will continuously deliver 600 gallons per day, nor does a larger rating prove better contaminant reduction.

Waterdrop models worth comparing

Waterdrop’s current under-sink tankless range includes the G3P600, G3P800, X8, X12, and X16. The company also lists the K6, which adds instant hot-water dispensing, and countertop products such as the A1 and K19. Countertop systems should be evaluated separately because they are intended for renters or users who cannot make under-sink plumbing connections.

Model Advertised capacity Advertised pure-to-drain ratio Stages Published filter schedule Best suited to
G3P600 600 GPD 2:1 8 CF: 6 months; CB: 12 months; RO: 24 months Most ordinary households wanting a compact tankless system

G3P600: the practical default

The G3P600 is the most logical starting point for many buyers. Its 600-GPD rating already exceeds the daily drinking and cooking needs of most households, while its compact tankless format and smart monitoring provide the main convenience benefits of the range.

Choose it when you want under-sink RO without paying for the highest output. It is less compelling if standardized, inexpensive replacement cartridges or outage resilience are your priorities.

G3P800: faster output and a 3:1 claim

The G3P800 raises the advertised capacity to 800 GPD and lists a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio. That can make sense for frequent cooking, coffee, ice, or refrigerator use. It does not mean every home will experience a dramatic improvement over the G3P600, however. A small household may never use the extra capacity.

X8: similar capacity, different platform

The X8 overlaps the G3P800 at 800 GPD, but its filter architecture, stage count, display ecosystem, and certification presentation differ. The comparison is therefore not simply “800 versus 800.” The X8 may appeal to buyers who prefer its filter design or interface, but its additional stages should not be treated as proof of superior purification.

X12 and X16: when premium capacity is justified

The X12 and X16 are mainly capacity and feature upgrades. They may be justified by a large household, heavy cooking and beverage use, multiple simultaneous dispensers, or a strong preference for rapid refill. They are difficult to justify for a household using only a few gallons per day.

The X16’s 1,600-GPD rating is a manufacturer-rated capacity, not a guarantee of continuous household flow. Check the exact U.S. listing, installation requirements, and replacement-filter cost before paying for maximum output. Waterdrop’s X16 product page is a regional page, so confirm that its configuration applies to your market.

K6 and countertop models

The K6 is relevant when instant filtered hot water is a central requirement. If you only need cold drinking water, its added complexity may not justify the purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Waterdrop’s countertop A1 and K19 models are more suitable for renters, dorms, or kitchens without an available drain and faucet connection. They are less suitable for refrigerator or ice-maker integration and high continuous volume.

What the filtration stages actually do

Although the precise configuration varies, a typical Waterdrop tankless RO sequence includes:

  1. Sediment or composite filtration: captures suspended particles and protects later stages.
  2. Activated carbon pretreatment: reduces chlorine, taste, and odor compounds and helps protect the RO membrane.
  3. Reverse-osmosis membrane: reduces TDS and many dissolved contaminants.
  4. Post-treatment: depending on the model, this may include post-carbon, alkaline or mineral treatment, or UV-related features.
  5. Dedicated dispensing: a faucet or electronic system controls delivery and may show TDS or filter-life information.

A larger stage count is not automatically better. The relevant questions are what each stage contains, what contaminant it is intended to address, and whether the claim is certified or merely reported by the manufacturer.

RO commonly changes taste because it removes many dissolved minerals. A remineralization or alkaline cartridge can alter taste and pH, which some users prefer, but “alkaline” is not proof of superior health outcomes. If taste is important, compare the standard and remineralized configurations and check the documentation for what minerals are added and in what quantity.

How to read Waterdrop’s certifications

Certification language requires care. NSF/ANSI 58 covers defined aspects of RO systems, including structural integrity, TDS reduction, efficiency, recovery, and optional contaminant-reduction claims. TDS reduction is not the same as proving removal of every contaminant.

Lead, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate/nitrite, copper, and VOC reduction are examples of claims that must be specifically substantiated. A claim should be tied to the exact model, certification body, current listing, and contaminant—not generalized across an entire brand.

  • NSF/ANSI 58: an RO-system standard with defined required and optional claims.
  • NSF/ANSI 372: addresses lead content in drinking-water-system components. It is not a blanket lead-removal certification.
  • NSF/ANSI 42: generally concerns aesthetic effects such as chlorine, taste, and odor.
  • “Tested to NSF standards”: does not necessarily mean certified by NSF or another accredited certification body.
  • Third-party laboratory testing: can be useful evidence, but it is not identical to certification.

Waterdrop’s official pages do not present identical certification information for every model or market. Check the product page and the NSF product database before treating a certification claim as decisive. NSF also explains that certification does not mean a product reduces all possible contaminants in its water-treatment standards overview.

Does tankless RO save water?

Waterdrop lists a 2:1 or 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio depending on the model. A 3:1 ratio means approximately three parts treated water for one part reject water under the stated test conditions. It does not mean zero wastewater.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Actual recovery varies with pressure, temperature, feed-water TDS, membrane condition, and operating or flushing mode. Pure-to-drain ratio and recovery rate are related but not interchangeable measurements. The EPA WaterSense RO specification discusses standardized efficiency and recovery measurement, including the water used during flushing.

If water conservation matters, prefer the model with the better verified recovery performance—but treat Waterdrop’s ratio as an advertised rating rather than a guaranteed household result. Reject water can sometimes be collected for suitable non-drinking uses, provided local conditions and the water’s salt concentration make that appropriate.

Installation and compatibility checklist

Under-sink installation is relatively streamlined compared with a traditional tank system, but it is still a plumbing and electrical project. Confirm all of the following:

  • A dedicated cold-water feed.
  • A drain connection for reject water.
  • A nearby electrical outlet for the pump and controls.
  • An unused faucet hole, or permission and equipment to drill one.
  • Enough vertical and horizontal cabinet clearance for the unit, power supply, tubing, and filter removal.
  • Compatible tubing and secure push-fit connections.
  • Adequate incoming water pressure and acceptable feed-water quality.
  • Compatibility with a refrigerator or ice maker if required.

Read the manual for the exact SKU. The G3P600 manual and X16 manual show why pressure, feed-water conditions, flushing, and troubleshooting should not be generalized across models.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After installation, follow the specified first-use flushing procedure. Check every connection, the faucet, and the drain saddle for leaks. Place an absorbent pad or leak detector under the assembly for the first several days and after every filter change.

Maintenance and ownership cost

Waterdrop commonly lists a six-month schedule for a sediment or carbon prefilter, 12 months for another carbon or composite filter, and 18–24 months for the RO membrane or final filter depending on the model. These are calendar estimates, not guarantees. Heavy use, sediment, hardness, chlorine, and high TDS can shorten filter life.

Because Waterdrop uses model-specific proprietary cartridges, replacement is usually convenient but less flexible than using standardized cartridges in a traditional system. Before buying, locate the exact replacement-filter SKU and calculate:

Annualized filter cost = (filter 1 price ÷ service life in years) + (filter 2 price ÷ service life in years) + (RO membrane price ÷ service life in years)

Also account for shipping, optional remineralization cartridges, electricity, wastewater, installation parts, possible service calls, and replacement electronic or faucet components. A discounted purchase price can be misleading if recurring cartridges are expensive or difficult to source.

Noise, electricity, and outages

Tankless systems generally use a powered pump and electronic controls. You may hear the pump, solenoid valves, or other operating sounds while the unit is producing water. Do not treat a marketing description such as “silent” as an independent sound measurement.

Power dependence is a meaningful trade-off. During an outage, a powered tankless unit may not produce or dispense RO water. A conventional tank system may still provide some treated water from its pressurized reserve, although it will eventually need power or water pressure to refill.

Start with the water problem

RO is not automatically the correct treatment. Municipal users should review their local Consumer Confidence Report. Private-well owners should use a certified laboratory and consider pressure, hardness, iron, manganese, sediment, bacterial quality, and other locally relevant contaminants before selecting equipment.

TDS is not a complete measure of safety: a low TDS reading does not prove that water is safe, and a higher reading does not identify which contaminant is present. Match the treatment to the test result. If the issue is primarily chlorine taste or odor, a certified carbon filter may cost less, waste less water, and retain minerals. If the target contaminant requires membrane treatment, carbon alone is not an adequate substitute.

Waterdrop versus a conventional tank RO system

Consideration Tankless Waterdrop Conventional tank RO
Cabinet space Smaller main body; still needs power, tubing, and drain hardware Requires room for a storage tank
Dispensing Fast rated production; depends directly on pressure and power Strong burst from stored water; slower refill after depletion
Outage resilience Usually cannot produce RO water without electricity May dispense stored water during a short outage
Wastewater Often advertises 2:1 or 3:1 pure-to-drain ratios Efficiency varies and is often lower, depending on design
Filters Convenient proprietary cartridges Often uses more standardized sizes
Purchase cost Typically carries a compact, electronic-system premium Often the lower-cost option
Failure points Adds pump, sensors, valves, and electronics Simpler systems may have fewer electronic components

Choose tankless when cabinet space and convenient high-speed dispensing are worth the premium. Choose a tanked system when low cost, standardized filters, simplicity, or short-term outage resilience matter more.

Who should buy Waterdrop?

Good fit

  • You have limited cabinet space but need point-of-use RO.
  • You want faster dispensing and digital filter or TDS monitoring.
  • Your water testing indicates a reason to use RO.
  • You are comfortable paying for proprietary replacement cartridges.
  • You have suitable cold-water, drain, pressure, and electrical connections.

Consider another solution

  • There is no nearby electrical outlet.
  • Household water pressure is very low or unstable.
  • You need treated water during power outages.
  • You want the least expensive standardized cartridges.
  • Your only concern is chlorine taste or odor.
  • You are unwilling to monitor and replace filters.
  • You have well-water problems requiring whole-house pretreatment.

Final buying checklist

  1. Identify the contaminant or taste problem with reliable water testing.
  2. Write down the exact model number and country-specific SKU.
  3. Check the current certification listing and each specific contaminant claim.
  4. Measure cabinet clearance, filter-removal space, and faucet-hole availability.
  5. Confirm cold-water, drain, power, and inlet-pressure requirements.
  6. Price the exact replacement cartridges and calculate annualized filter cost.
  7. Verify refrigerator or ice-maker compatibility if needed.
  8. Review warranty exclusions, return terms, and what the bundle includes.
  9. Plan for first-use flushing, leak checks, and regular filter changes.

Bottom line: Waterdrop’s tankless systems are credible options when compact installation and fast dispensing are more important than the lowest lifetime cost. For most households, start with the G3P600; consider the G3P800 or X8 for higher demand; reserve the X12 and X16 for a clearly demonstrated need for faster, heavier-volume production; and choose the K6 only if hot-water dispensing is central to the purchase.
