1. Change Store Mode to Home Mode
Store Mode is intended for retail displays and can generate showroom-style advertising messages while the TV is being used.

On many recent LG TVs, open:
Settings → All Settings → General → Devices → TV Management → Home/Store Mode → Home Mode
On some webOS 5.0 models, use:
Settings → All Settings → General → Additional Settings → Home Mode

This is the main control for internet-based promotional content in the LG Home launcher. LG confirms that Home Promotion is separate from Home Auto Launch.
3. Turn off Content Recommendation
In the same Home Settings area, look for:
Content Recommendation → Off
This reduces suggested programs, apps, and other recommended content. Depending on the TV, the setting may instead be called AI Recommendation, AI Service, Personalized Recommendation, or Network-Based Personalized Recommendation. LG’s version-specific guidance shows that these controls move between webOS releases; its AI recommendation guide lists several possible locations.
4. Disable Live Plus or Live Promotion
On supported TVs, check:
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Live Plus → Off
Newer models may separately show Live Promotion, Live Ads, or Advertisement. Turn off the applicable option. LG’s webOS 25 guide explains that turning off Live Promotion removes advertising associated with Live Plus.
These settings are different:
- Home Promotion controls promotional material in the Home launcher.
- Content Recommendation controls suggested content.
- Live Plus and Live Promotion relate to information and advertising associated with live viewing and related services.
- Limit Ad Tracking can reduce personalization but does not necessarily remove advertisements.
5. Turn off screensaver advertising, if available
Look under:
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Screensaver Settings → Screensaver Advertising → Off

This option is not present on every model or in every region. Newer LG guides include advertising-related controls, but the exact location depends on the TV. The webOS 26 User Guide is a useful reference for newer sets.

Review privacy, advertising, and AI settings
Depending on your model and region, open either:
Settings → Support → Privacy & Terms → User Agreements
or:
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Advertisement
Review options for:
- Personalized advertising
- Viewing information
- Advertising ID
- Live Plus
- Content recommendations
- Voice and AI services
- LG account personalization
Withdrawing optional permissions may reduce personalization and recommendations, but it is not a guaranteed way to remove every ad. It can also disable some connected features. LG’s Privacy Center explains the possible service and cookie-related consequences.
Clear and manage the notification panel
If the problem is a bell icon, red badge, or message rather than a Home-screen tile:

- Open the Home screen.
- Select the bell or Notifications entry, if your model shows one.
- Open the notification’s options menu.
- Delete the message, or disable notifications from the associated app or service if that option is offered.
webOS can display notifications from LG services and TV apps, and its guide describes viewing and deleting them. However, deleting a message is not the same as disabling the service. A recurring app notification, update reminder, LG account message, or new promotional alert may return. Identify the sender before removing it.
Do not assume the bell itself can always be hidden. On some firmware versions it remains as part of the system interface even after promotional messages are cleared. See LG’s webOS Notifications guide.
Find your webOS version when paths do not match
Do not assume that a TV’s model year maps perfectly to a particular webOS version. LG publishes separate instructions for webOS 5.0, webOS 6.0, webOS 22, webOS 23, and newer releases.
If a setting is missing, check these alternate locations:
- Settings → General → Home Settings
- Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings
- Settings → General → Devices → TV Management → Home/Store Mode
You can also open the built-in User Guide and search for the setting name. LG notes that menus and images may differ from the exact product. Firmware updates can also rearrange Home-screen controls; LG has published guidance about Home settings changing after webOS updates.

If ads keep coming back
Confirm that Home Mode stayed selected
Return to the Home/Store Mode setting. If the TV has reverted to Store Mode, select Home Mode again. Store Mode is the most likely explanation for persistent retail-style promotions.
Restart the TV and network
If settings do not stick, LG’s troubleshooting sequence includes enabling QuickStart+, testing the TV, then power-cycling both the TV and router. For a full restart, unplug the TV and router, wait at least two minutes, reconnect them, and try the setting again.
Test without HDMI devices
Disconnect the cable box, game console, or streaming stick and display the TV’s own settings screen. If the message disappears, it came from the external device rather than webOS. If it appears only when an external device is active, change that device’s notification, idle-screen, or advertising settings.
Check the screensaver and Live Plus settings again
A promotion that appears after inactivity may be a screensaver feature rather than a Home-screen ad. A banner appearing during live viewing may be associated with Live Plus or Live Promotion. These controls are independent of Home Promotion.
Do not factory-reset first
A factory reset erases apps, accounts, network settings, picture settings, and personal configuration. Use it only after identifying a genuine software problem and exhausting the relevant settings and restart steps.
What LG settings cannot remove
LG’s built-in controls cannot generally remove:
- Ads inserted by Netflix, YouTube, broadcaster apps, or other streaming services
- Commercials on broadcast channels
- Promotions displayed by websites in the TV browser
- Messages generated by a cable box, console, or streaming stick
- Recommendations or promotions built into a third-party app
For those, use the app’s own notification, privacy, subscription, or playback settings, or configure the external HDMI device. Turning off LG personalization will not make third-party services ad-free.
Advanced alternatives
Use an external streaming device
You can use the LG TV primarily as a display and open apps through an external streamer such as Apple TV 4K, a Roku player, or the Google TV Streamer. This may avoid much of the LG launcher experience, but it does not guarantee an ad-free interface: each platform and streaming service can show its own recommendations or promotions. It also adds hardware, another remote, and another interface. Buying a device is unnecessary if the built-in settings solve the problem.
Try network-level DNS filtering only if you understand the risks
Technically capable users may consider tools such as Pi-hole or NextDNS. DNS filtering is not a guaranteed LG-ad blocker. Ads and legitimate program data may use the same delivery infrastructure, and blocking LG domains can interfere with firmware updates, app downloads, logins, recommendations, account functions, or diagnostics. Router-level changes can also affect every device in the home. Use allow-lists and be prepared to undo the configuration.
Changing the LG service country is another unofficial workaround sometimes discussed online, but it is not a reliable first-line solution. It may remove regional services along with regional promotions and affect apps, voice features, AirPlay, HomeKit, or account functions.
