The Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) demolished part of a proposed hotel plinth at Takia Sangri in Srinagar’s Hazratbal green belt, according to a Kashmir Convener report published October 11, 2026. The report says the action followed detection of a deviation from approved construction parameters. Residents questioned whether the demolition went far enough; the available account does not establish the exact extent of removal or the site’s present condition.
What the report says happened
Kashmir Convener reported that LCMA demolished a portion of a plinth for a proposed hotel at Takia Sangri, on Srinagar’s outskirts in the Hazratbal green belt. The outlet said the authority acted after detecting a deviation from approved construction parameters. The report does not publish the relevant approval, inspection record, or a measurement of the work removed.

Why residents questioned the action
Residents alleged that the action was limited to part of the plinth and said machinery and other construction material remained at the site. They also alleged that encroachments and unauthorized construction continued in the green-belt area, and called for the site to be examined and enforcement to continue. These are residents’ claims as reported by Kashmir Convener, not independently established findings.
What LCMA was reported to say
Kashmir Convener quoted an unnamed LCMA official as saying: “illegal structure was demolished and the encroacher was warned of consequences under law in case he resorts to further construction.” The report does not identify the official, and no official LCMA record confirming the statement or the action is available in the cited account.

What remains unclear
- How much of the plinth was removed, and whether any part remains.
- Whether the machinery and materials residents described were still at the site after the reported action.
- Which approved construction parameters were allegedly breached and what the relevant approval required.
- Whether LCMA conducted a follow-up inspection or took further enforcement action.
The October 11 report does not settle these questions. It therefore does not establish that the entire plinth was demolished or that the site is now clear.
