KujieTool K1: Is This Really the World’s Smallest Portable Precision Milling Machine?

The KujieTool K1 is an unusually compact manual milling machine, but its “world’s smallest” and ±0.01 mm claims need careful qualification.

Short answer: The KujieTool K1 appears to be a real, unusually compact manual milling machine—not a conventional CNC mill. Its portability is compelling for light-duty work on plastics, wood, wax, aluminum and possibly small brass parts. However, “world’s smallest” is a manufacturer’s marketing claim, and the advertised ±0.01 mm accuracy has not been independently demonstrated in the available evidence.

That makes the K1 interesting for makers, educators, jewelry designers, repair specialists and small workshops with limited space. It is a less convincing choice for steel machining, production work, automated CAD-to-part manufacturing or any application that requires verified finished-part tolerances.

What is the KujieTool K1?

The KujieTool K1 is marketed as a miniature universal milling machine for desktop and compact-workshop use. The manufacturer describes it as suitable for cutting, engraving, polishing, drilling and small-part work, with manual X, Y and Z handwheels and a variable-speed spindle.

In practical terms, it occupies the space between a basic drill-and-cross-slide setup and a conventional benchtop mill. It is intended to let an operator make small cuts by manually positioning the workpiece and cutter, rather than sending a digital toolpath to a computer-controlled machine.

PROXXON MICRO Mill MF 70, 37110
  • Small and beautiful - the accurate mill for lab, optician, jewelry, electronic and model building projects
  • Supplied with a stable base of cast iron, vertical column and compound table are of treated, high quality aluminum
  • All axes are play-free and have adjustable slides, headstock, made of die-cast aluminum
  • Balanced special motor and provides stability even at high operating speeds
  • Scope of delivery: 1x PROXXON MICRO Mill MF 70 including MICROMOT steel collet set and stepped clamp blocks of steel. Part number: 37110

That distinction matters. The available product information does not identify a CNC controller, stepper or servo motors, G-code support, CAM software, automatic homing or computer-controlled axes. Despite the precision-oriented marketing, the evidence currently supports describing the K1 as a manual mill, not as a standard desktop CNC machine.

  • Manual mill: The operator turns handwheels and controls the cut.
  • Desktop CNC: A computer controls tool movement from programmed toolpaths.
  • Micro mill: A general description for a very small milling machine; it does not guarantee precision or CNC capability.
  • Universal mill: A term usually associated with multiple milling configurations or orientations. Buyers should confirm exactly which configurations the K1 supports rather than relying on the label alone.

Is it really the world’s smallest?

KujieTool calls the product “the world’s smallest universal milling machine.” What can be verified is narrower: the K1 is exceptionally compact and light compared with ordinary benchtop and floor-standing mills.

There is no independent, industry-wide comparison proving that it is the smallest milling machine in the world. The result depends on what is being compared: manual mills, CNC mills, watchmaking machines, specialized micro-machining tools, commercial availability, footprint, weight, work envelope or the ability to cut metal.

New Atlas describes the K1 as a compact desktop mill and reports the manufacturer’s small dimensions and weight. That supports the portability claim, but it is editorial coverage rather than an independent metrology or comparative-machining test.

KujieTool K1 specifications

The following figures are manufacturer claims or reported listing data, not independently measured specifications.

Specification Reported figure Qualification
Product type Manual universal milling machine Confirm the exact operating modes with the seller
Weight About 2.4 kg / 5.3 lb The official page also contains 6.4 kg and 16.5 lb entries
Overall dimensions 251 × 386 × 403 mm Reported by the manufacturer and New Atlas; the product page also displays malformed dimension data
Spindle speed 0–10,000 rpm Claimed range; performance under load is not established
Accuracy Approximately ±0.01 mm No test method or independent result is supplied in the available material
Handwheel graduation 0.007 mm per division Graduation is not the same as finished-part accuracy
Construction High-strength aluminum alloy Confirm which structural and wear surfaces use aluminum or other materials
Controls Manual X, Y and Z handwheels Available information does not document CNC operation
Named materials Plastics, aluminum, wood and more Do not assume reliable steel cutting
Displayed retail price $439, reduced from $499 Listing data is volatile and should be checked before ordering
Displayed stock 100 units Stock signal from the indexed listing; it may change or not represent physically verified inventory

These inconsistencies are not minor if you are planning a purchase. The product page gives at least three different weight figures: 2.4 kg, 6.4 kg and 16.5 lb. Possible explanations include a typo, shipping weight, a copied template or different product versions, but the available evidence does not resolve the discrepancy.

What can the K1 machine?

The manufacturer specifically names plastics, aluminum and wood, along with cutting, engraving and polishing applications. New Atlas also shows the machine being demonstrated on a brass lighter. That makes small brass work a plausible intended application, but it does not prove consistent performance across brass grades, cutter sizes or geometries.

YWBL-WH 60W Mini Milling Machine, 12000RPM DIY Soft Metal Processing
  • With 0.02mm accuracy of scale lines, and the hand wheel increases the precision of workpiece machining.
  • Maximum motor power is 144W by using more powerful motor. Make sure that you pick up the right size.
  • Main Parts: Headstock, long/short machine bed, big/small slider, motor blade, connection block, gear etc. All of the parts are made of metal.
  • Motor case and headstock are jointed without any complex installation and assembly steps.
  • Milling cutter with two cutting edges, is dangerous, so people should be guided by experts when using it.

Reasonable applications

  • Small aluminum brackets and plates.
  • Plastic prototypes and fixtures.
  • Wax or jewelry work.
  • Engraving and light slotting.
  • Small repair jobs.
  • Educational demonstrations.
  • Light drilling.
  • Small wooden, composite or model-making components.

Materials requiring caution

Brass and copper may be feasible for small, shallow cuts if the machine is sufficiently rigid and the tooling, speed and feed are appropriate. The demonstration involving a brass lighter is useful evidence of intended use, but it is not a production test.

Steel should not be treated as a normal use case without verified spindle torque, rigidity, cutter capacity, feed-rate guidance and test results. Stainless steel, titanium, hardened materials and large workpieces are even less suitable assumptions.

A machine’s advertised accuracy also does not mean it can remove material to that tolerance in every material and cutting condition. Tool deflection, backlash, spindle runout, vibration, workholding, temperature and operator technique all affect the finished part.

What does the ±0.01 mm accuracy claim mean?

The K1’s advertised accuracy figure needs careful interpretation. “Accuracy” can refer to several different things:

  • Positioning resolution.
  • Handwheel readability.
  • Axis repeatability.
  • Absolute positioning accuracy.
  • Spindle runout.
  • Finished-part dimensional accuracy.
  • Performance after calibration under a specified load.

The product page appears to present a 0.007 mm handwheel graduation alongside an overall ±0.01 mm accuracy claim. A fine graduation allows precise adjustment, but it does not prove that a completed aluminum part will consistently measure within ±0.01 mm.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before relying on the figure, ask the manufacturer for:

  • Spindle runout measured at the tool or chuck.
  • Backlash measurements for each axis.
  • Tram and squareness results.
  • Repeatability test data.
  • The calibration procedure.
  • The measuring equipment used.
  • The material, cutter, depth of cut and feed conditions used for the claim.

The most accurate qualification is: the ±0.01 mm figure should be treated as a manufacturer-stated positioning or accuracy claim, not a guarantee of ±0.01 mm finished-part accuracy.

  • 【Main Parts of the Machine】- Main components, such as the headstock, intermediate block, connecting block, vice, sliders, and hand wheel, are made of metal, resulting in improved product quality, precision, and longevity.

How portable is it in real use?

At the reported 2.4 kg, the K1 would be far easier to move and store than a conventional mill. That is its clearest advantage. It could suit a shared workshop, classroom, small product-development area or a repair bench that cannot accommodate heavy machinery.

Portable does not mean usable anywhere. The machine still needs a rigid, stable work surface and should be secured against movement before cutting. The practical setup also includes cutters, a chuck or collets, workholding, measuring tools, eye protection and chip or dust control.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Repeatedly moving a small mill can create another complication: every relocation may require checking alignment, clamping and setup. The K1 may be portable enough to move between workstations, but it should not be treated as a machine that can simply be placed on an arbitrary surface and expected to produce precision parts.

Its low mass and claimed aluminum construction also suggest an important engineering trade-off. A light frame is convenient to carry, but it is generally more vulnerable than a heavy cast-iron mill to vibration, deflection and chatter. These are likely limitations to manage, not independently observed K1 test results.

Manual operation versus CNC

For a buyer expecting CAD-to-part automation, the K1’s apparent manual operation is a decisive issue. The available description refers to graduated handwheels, forward and reverse spindle rotation, a changeable spindle chuck and manual adjustment. It does not document:

  • G-code support.
  • CAM software.
  • Computer-controlled axis motors.
  • Automatic homing or limit switches.
  • Programmable feed rates.
  • Closed-loop positioning.

Verify this directly before ordering if CNC capability is important. A manual mill can be more tactile and educational, but every axis movement and cut must be controlled by the operator.

To improve the stability and service life, the connection block be fixed by square nuts, which avoid screw loosing after long time vibration.

The K1 also has crowdfunding history. Campaign-tracking data reports a $10,000 goal, $138,547 raised, 343 backers and successful funding. That is evidence that the project attracted substantial interest, but crowdfunding success is not the same as a long retail history or independently verified delivery record.

Kickstarter explains that backing a project is not the same as making a conventional retail purchase, and its guidance notes that project delays or inability to fulfill can occur. A direct store listing is encouraging, but it does not by itself establish how many units have shipped, how returns work internationally or how dependable warranty support will be.

Use a payment method with buyer protection. Obtain written confirmation of the delivery estimate, warranty terms, return address and shipping origin. Also confirm whether the retail unit is the same revision as the crowdfunding machine.

The advertised price is not the complete cost

Budget for the machine plus the equipment needed to use it. The product page’s packaging section does not expose a complete, clearly readable list in the available information, so do not assume that a vise, cutters, collets, clamps, measuring tools or a carrying case are included.

Potential additional costs include:

  • Shipping, sales tax and import charges.
  • End mills, engraving cutters and compatible collets or chuck accessories.
  • A small precision vise, clamps and step blocks.
  • Calipers, a micrometer and a dial indicator.
  • Deburring tools and chip brushes.
  • Eye protection and dust or chip management.
  • Replacement cutters and wear parts.
  • Possible maintenance or international return shipping.

How it compares with a conventional benchtop mill

KujieTool K1 Conventional benchtop mill
Very light and easier to store Heavier and more difficult to relocate
Small work envelope Larger capacity and broader workholding options
Likely best suited to light cuts Generally better suited to deeper cuts and tougher materials
Manual operation appears central Often supports established manual tooling and possible CNC conversions
Lower logistical burden Greater rigidity, mass and spindle capability
Young product with limited independent data Usually more community knowledge, aftermarket support and repair information

The K1’s compactness is both its selling point and its likely limitation. A very light aluminum machine may be easier to carry but more susceptible to chatter, cutter breakage, poor surface finish and inconsistent dimensions than a rigid cast-iron mill. High spindle speed also does not equal high cutting power: a spindle can reach 10,000 rpm while still lacking the torque needed for deep cuts.

Alternatives to consider

Desktop CNC mills

If you want computer-controlled machining, compare the K1 with products such as the Makera Carvera range or the Bantam Tools Desktop CNC Milling Machine. These occupy a different category, with software-driven workflows rather than handwheel operation. Verify the current model, enclosure, work envelope, tooling and price before comparing.

Hobby desktop CNC machines

Genmitsu machines offer another computer-controlled hobby category with broad community visibility. Individual models differ substantially in rigidity, precision, enclosure design and material capability, so the range should not be treated as one directly comparable machine.

Used mini-mills

A used conventional mini-mill may offer more rigidity, a larger work envelope and better access to standard tooling. Against that advantage, account for spindle condition, backlash, replacement parts, electrical requirements, transport and your ability to inspect or repair the machine.

Drill press with cross-slide table

This can be adequate for very basic drilling and occasional light slotting, but it is not a direct substitute for a properly designed milling machine. A drill press may have unsuitable bearings, excessive runout or insufficient rigidity for side-cutting operations.

Questions to ask KujieTool before ordering

  1. Is the K1 manual, CNC or convertible to CNC?
  2. What are the actual X, Y and Z travels?
  3. What are the spindle power and torque figures?
  4. What is the spindle runout at the tool or chuck?
  5. What are the measured backlash values for all three axes?
  6. Does ±0.01 mm mean resolution, repeatability, positioning accuracy or finished-part accuracy?
  7. What material and cutting conditions were used for the accuracy claim?
  8. What tooling standard does the spindle use?
  9. Is a vise included?
  10. Exactly what is in the box?
  11. Which weight is correct: 2.4 kg, 6.4 kg or 16.5 lb?
  12. What is the machine’s shipping weight?
  13. What is the warranty period and who pays return shipping?
  14. Are replacement spindles, chucks, handwheels and other wear parts available?
  15. What is the delivery date for current orders?
  16. Are shipping, taxes and import duties included?

Safety considerations

The K1 should be treated as a real machine tool, not a harmless desktop gadget. Rotating cutters can grab loose clothing, eject chips, break unexpectedly and leave sharp edges. Wood, plastic and composite machining can also create dust, while brass and aluminum produce sharp chips.

  • Wear suitable eye protection.
  • Secure the workpiece firmly before cutting.
  • Keep loose sleeves, jewelry, hair and gloves away from rotating tooling.
  • Use cutters, speeds and feeds appropriate to the material.
  • Remove chips with a brush or suitable extraction method—not your hands.
  • Control dust when machining wood, plastics or composites.
  • Understand the machine’s power-disconnect or emergency-stop procedure.
  • Provide supervision and training in classrooms or shared workshops.
  • Never assume unattended operation is safe unless the manufacturer documents the necessary safeguards.

Who should buy the K1?

The K1 makes the most sense when portability and storage matter more than heavy cutting. It may suit a maker who works mainly with plastic, wax, wood or small aluminum parts and is comfortable with manual machining and careful verification of specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a poor fit if you need reliable steel or stainless-steel production, verified ±0.01 mm finished-part accuracy, CNC automation, a large work envelope, immediately available replacement parts or continuous production capability.

For construction-related repair and fabrication work, its compact size could be useful for small fixtures, templates, brackets or workshop demonstrations. It should not be mistaken for a replacement for a full-size mill when structural rigidity, repeatability or tougher materials are required.

Verdict

The KujieTool K1 is best understood as an intriguing portability-first manual micro-mill. It appears to be a real product, and its reported size is genuinely unusual. But the evidence does not independently prove the “world’s smallest” superlative, the ±0.01 mm finished-part claim or broad metal-cutting capability.

Buy it only after confirming the contradictory specifications, included accessories, tooling standard, delivery terms, warranty and actual performance data. If your priority is a small manual machine for light work, the K1 may occupy a distinctive niche. If you need automation, heavy cutting or proven precision, a better-established benchtop mill or desktop CNC is the safer choice.
