It is a knife with an integrated writing tool—not a full multitool. New Atlas reported the design and its specifications on March 26, 2026; its launch details should be read as historical campaign information, not confirmation of current availability.
How the hidden pen works
A small ballpoint pen cartridge sits near the handle’s rounded tip and pulls out for standalone writing. The March 2026 New Atlas report does not identify a cartridge standard, so compatibility with replacement refills is not established.
The pen is the Doodler’s distinguishing extra. It does not turn the knife into a general-purpose multitool: the reported design centers on the folding blade and the compact writing instrument.
Opening, blade and lock
New Atlas describes three ways to open the blade: a nail nick, an integrated rear flipper tab and a jimped front flipper. A liner lock holds the blade open.

Customization and carry considerations
The reported configuration includes three G10 scale colors and five interchangeable inlay options. Each inlay is secured with two small screws. New Atlas also reports that inlay designs are open source, allowing owners to adapt designs or 3D-print their own.
The pocket clip is fitted on one side only and cannot be moved to the opposite side, a limitation worth noting for left-handed carry. The source does not establish whether separate compatible inlays are currently available from third-party sellers.

- DESIGNED BY BEN ‘BANTERS’ PETERSEN - WIUG? The Lander 3 is a pocket knife that embodies the spirit of the Apollo 14, a Moon mission that was a fascinating case study in perseverance. It came a year after Apollo 13 was a near-disaster. But they got back up on the horse and flew to space! When commander Alan Shepherd stepped off the Lunar Lander, he said, "It's been a long way, but we're here." Overcome challenges. Crush it. That's the energy of the Lander 3.
Launch details and what is known now
New Atlas reported on March 26, 2026 that the Kickstarter campaign was active, had reached its funding target in 14 minutes, and offered pledges starting at US$129. The article described October as the planned delivery timing. Those are campaign-era details: the report does not confirm whether deliveries occurred, whether a retail version is currently sold, or what its present price or stock may be. It also reported that Kizer was to handle manufacturing, which was the plan at launch rather than a verified current status.
The same article traced the design inspiration to founder Ben Petersen’s experience of remote-work Zoom meetings during the COVID lockdown period, where he reportedly fidgeted with pocket knives and doodled. That background helps explain the combination of blade and pen, but it does not establish anything about the product’s current production or availability.

Who the Doodler may suit
The Doodler is aimed at someone who wants a compact folding knife and a small pen in one carry item. Its appeal depends on whether that pairing and the three reported opening methods outweigh practical trade-offs such as a one-side-only clip. The reported specifications describe a slim, light design, but buyers should verify current availability and terms directly before treating the launch pledge as a purchase option.

Best Value
- EVERY DAY CARRY - A compact, lightweight, small EDC folding pocket knife that features an easy-to-use clutch lock, clip point blade, ceramic cage-bearing for smooth opening, reversible deep carry pocket clip, and a paper micarta handle.
- CLIP POINT BLADE SHAPE– Ah, the clip point—classic, clean, and ready to get to work. This blade shape features a concave or straight cut-out at the spine, giving it that “clipped” look (hence the name). It’s great for precision tasks, piercing, and looking cool while you whittle a stick into a wizard staff. The clip point has stood the test of time because it's practical, versatile, and just downright handsome. If this knife evokes feelings of Grandpa's farm, the rancher's lifestyle, the true working man's tool, then we'll have done our job. This is for the ones who aren't afraid to get a little dusty and find satisfaction in a job well done.
- PAPER MICARTA HANDLE – Paper micarta differs from regular micarta in a few key ways, but here are the things you need to know: it's extra durable, lightweight, gives a good grip, and it also patinas beautifully. Because paper micarta is made from composites of different organic material, each handle is going to have a unique look which means no two knives will look the same. This isn't a manufacturing error, this is paper micarta living its best life.
- QUALITY DESIGN - The Lander 2 has a two-tone finish S35VN Steel blade for exceptional hardness, edge retention, wear and corrosion resistance. The paper micarta handle is durable, lightweight, low-maintenance and provides enhanced control with a steady grip. Blade Length 2.75”, Length when folded 3.63”, Handle thickness 0.45”
