The best fit depends on sleeping and storage needs, the specific trailer’s loaded weight and hitch load, and which options are installed.
What is the Keystone Walkabout?
Walkabout is Keystone’s outdoor-focused travel-trailer line. Its current 2027 lineup includes the 221FROST, 22MAX, 25MAX and 26MAX. Keystone gives the line a published range of 26 ft 7 in to 30 ft 9 in, shipping weights of 6,365 to 7,060 lb, and sleeping capacity of four to six. These are manufacturer-listed figures; specifications can vary by year, build and options. See Keystone’s Walkabout overview and current floorplan listings.
The atrium slide is a signature feature, but layouts differ. The 22MAX is described as having a mini atrium slide box, while the 25MAX and 26MAX listings use atrium-slide terminology. The 221FROST is listed with Murphy-bed and bunk-bed sleeping arrangements; the complete dimensions and weights were not available in the listing cited here, so compare its actual specification sheet rather than inferring them from other models.
How do the 2027 Walkabout floorplans compare?
Keystone’s listed specifications for three layouts are shown below. Length, weight and capacity are important starting points, not a substitute for checking the exact trailer’s label and build sheet.

Figures are Keystone’s current 2027 manufacturer listings, accessed October 5, 2026: 22MAX specifications, 25MAX specifications and 26MAX specifications. Carrying capacity is the listed difference between the trailer’s unloaded and maximum allowable weight, not an amount that should automatically be treated as available for personal cargo; installed options and other loads affect what remains.
Choose by layout, not just length
- 22MAX: The shortest of the three with listed weights, sleeping four and offering the mini atrium slide box and pantry-focused storage.
- 25MAX: Adds washer/dryer prep and has the largest listed gray-water capacity of these three. It also has the highest listed shipping and hitch weights.
- 26MAX: Sleeps six according to Keystone and is the longest of these three, with an atrium slide box and super storage.
- 221FROST: Consider it if the Murphy-bed and bunk-bed arrangement suits your group, but request its current model-year dimensions, weights and capacities before comparing it with the MAX layouts.
What does the atrium slide add?
Keystone describes oversized windows in the main slide wall, large glass panels in the slide’s end walls and ceiling, dimmable lighting, and integrated blackout shades with UV-reflective protection. The effect is a more open, window-forward living area than a conventional slide description suggests. The 22MAX’s “mini atrium” designation is distinct from the atrium-slide wording used for the 25MAX and 26MAX.

These are product descriptions, not independent measurements of daylight, insulation, shade effectiveness, durability or leak resistance. If the glass area is a deciding factor, inspect the exact floorplan in person and ask how the shades, seals and slide are maintained.
What makes the Walkabout off-road oriented?
Keystone lists equipment aimed at adventure travel, including 15-inch all-terrain tires, CURT Touring Suspension, anti-lock braking and one-touch three-point leveling. The manufacturer also states that the suspension “Reduces Road Shock by 50%”; the cited product material does not provide a test method or independent verification. Think of “off-road” here as positioning supported by selected equipment, not a promise of access. Before taking a trailer onto an unpaved route, verify route width, clearance, surface and grade against the exact trailer and tow vehicle, and follow the manufacturer’s operating guidance.
How much storage and gear management does it offer?
Keystone advertises more than 75 cubic feet of pass-through storage, built-in rod and reel storage, rear storage intended for two bikes, and a gear/boot station accessible from inside and outside. The station is described as including a spray hose, drainage and thermostatically controlled drying. These are manufacturer claims; actual usefulness depends on the layout and what you carry.

For buyers hauling wet or muddy equipment, compare where the gear station sits relative to the entry, whether the rear storage suits the items you own, and how the pass-through compartments are divided. Outdoor cooking features are also part of the line’s equipment description, but standard and optional equipment may differ by floorplan and build.

Keystone’s branded Walkabout page describes 220-watt solar as included and a 440-watt solar/inverter system as optional, and says the system can run the air conditioner. The 25MAX feature listing also names an 18K Chill Cube A/C that can run off inverter and batteries. These descriptions do not establish how long air conditioning will run or confirm the equipment on a particular trailer.

Before relying on air conditioning away from shore power, ask the dealer to identify the installed solar, inverter and battery components on the unit’s build sheet, and confirm expected operation under your conditions. Solar wattage alone does not tell you battery capacity or runtime.
How to check whether a Walkabout is towable by your vehicle
Do not select a tow vehicle based only on a brochure’s shipping weight or hitch-weight figure. Those are listed specifications, while the trailer’s actual loaded weight and tongue load depend on the specific build and what is carried. Match the actual loaded trailer and hitch load to the tow vehicle’s ratings, and account for passengers, cargo and other loads in the vehicle.
- Identify the exact trailer. Confirm model year, floorplan, installed options and the unit-specific weight information on its label and build sheet.
- Check all relevant vehicle limits. Compare the trailer and hitch loads with the tow vehicle’s ratings and the capacities of the hitch and other towing equipment.
- Account for the whole trip load. Include people and cargo in the tow vehicle as well as belongings, fluids and added equipment in the trailer.
- Verify before purchase and travel. Ask the dealer to clarify the unit’s specifications and use actual loaded-weight information when available; do not assume the listed carrying capacity is a recommended payload.
