If your Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator starts with model number 106, begin with the symptom and the simple checks below. The prefix covers multiple versions, so find the complete model number before choosing a filter, looking up settings, or ordering parts. A 106 prefix alone does not identify a compatible replacement.
Find the complete model number first
Use the full refrigerator model number to find the correct manual and product documents. Whirlpool’s manual lookup requires the model number; the 106 prefix does not establish the exact submodel or part compatibility. Check the refrigerator’s product label, then use the complete number when looking up its manual, filter, or service information.
If the refrigerator will not operate
Start with basic power-supply and control-setting checks described in the manual for your exact model. A refrigerator that will not operate does not, by itself, identify a failed component. Do not open electrical compartments or replace parts based only on this symptom; consult the model’s troubleshooting instructions or seek qualified service if basic checks do not resolve it.
If the ice maker makes no ice or too little
Check the water supply and freezer conditions before assuming the ice maker needs replacement. Whirlpool’s general ice-production guidance recommends a freezer temperature of 0–5°F (-17 to -15°C); that is general advice, not a confirmed setting for every Kenmore 106 submodel. - Confirm the supply valve is on and the visible water line is not obstructed.
- Make sure the ice maker is switched on.
- Check whether the ejector arm is jammed and whether the mold has water, as directed by the applicable manual.
- Check that the freezer is cold enough and that the water filter is correctly installed and not due for replacement.
Allow time after installation or heavy use
The available Coldspot manual excerpt says to allow 72 hours after installation for full ice production. For the refrigerator described in that manual, it states output of 70–120 cubes per 24 hours once the refrigerator has cooled. These figures are specific to that manual and should not be treated as guaranteed output for every model beginning with 106. The same excerpt says to allow 24 hours to replenish ice after a large amount has been removed.
If dispenser water flow is weak
A full or incorrectly installed filter can reduce dispenser flow, according to the Coldspot manual; Whirlpool also identifies clogged or improperly installed filters as possible causes of reduced flow to the dispenser and ice maker. Check the filter installation against the instructions for your complete refrigerator model before reinstalling or replacing it.

For the non-indicator filter setup described in the Coldspot manual, replacement is recommended every 6–9 months depending on use, or sooner if water flow decreases noticeably. Whirlpool’s general advice for Whirlpool filters is every six months, when the indicator comes on, or as needed. Those recommendations have different scopes: follow the instructions for the filter and refrigerator you actually have, rather than applying either interval universally.
Before buying a replacement, match both the complete refrigerator model number and the filter designation. No single filter is established as compatible with every Kenmore Coldspot 106. A thermometer can help check freezer temperature, but buying one does not diagnose or repair an ice-making fault.

When to stop troubleshooting
If the basic checks do not solve the problem, use the complete model number to locate its documentation or contact a qualified appliance technician. General owner guidance cannot identify a failed component across all 106 models, and the sources here do not establish a universal reset sequence or model-independent repair procedure.
