The project is designed to rise more than 1,000 metres and become the world’s tallest building, but that record remains a plan: the latest dated progress report, from July 2026, put the tower at 430 metres and 106 floors. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s Skyscraper Center lists 2030 as its expected completion year, not a confirmed opening date.
What is the world’s tallest unfinished skyscraper?
It is Jeddah Tower, also known as Kingdom Tower, a skyscraper under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Planned as the centerpiece of Jeddah Economic City, it is designed to exceed 1,000 metres (3,280 feet). If completed to that design, it would surpass the 828-metre (2,717-foot) Burj Khalifa. The comparison is between Jeddah Tower’s planned height and the Burj Khalifa’s completed height; Jeddah Tower has not yet claimed the world’s tallest-building record. ENR
When did construction stop and resume?
ENR reported that construction halted in early 2018, when the tower’s core stood about 840 feet high. Work had begun earlier: ENR says it started in 2012, while the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s building database records 2013 as the construction-start year. Those dates reflect different source conventions for the project’s start.
On 2 October 2024, Kingdom Holding announced a new $1.9 billion contract with Saudi Binladin Group. ENR reported that the figure included $292.8 million for work already completed and that the construction period was expected to be about 42 months. A Saudi Press Agency report recorded construction and concrete pouring resuming on 21 January 2025. ENR · The Skyscraper Center

The phrase “10 years of delay” compresses a longer, uneven timeline; it does not mean the site sat idle for ten continuous years. The documented pause began in 2018, and renewed work was reported in 2025. The project’s original 2019 completion target, reported by ENR, had already slipped by the time the new contract was announced.
How tall is Jeddah Tower now?
Dar, the project’s architect of record, reported on 31 July 2026 that the tower had reached 430 metres and 106 floors. Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal was quoted in the update: “We have reached a height of 430 meters out of 1000+ m.” Dar

Thornton Tomasetti, the structural engineer, had reported the 100-floor milestone on 20 April 2026 and said the tower was on track to exceed 1,000 metres. These are dated project-team updates, not live construction tracking or an independently verified percentage-complete figure. Thornton Tomasetti
When is Jeddah Tower expected to be finished?
The Skyscraper Center currently lists 2030 as the expected completion year. ENR’s 2024 report, by contrast, described an approximately 42-month construction duration under the new contract. The two figures come from different forecasting frames; neither establishes a guaranteed opening date. The 2030 entry is a database estimate, while the 42-month period was an expectation reported when the contract was announced. The Skyscraper Center · ENR
