Jeddah Tower is under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is designed to rise more than 1,000 meters. Its structural engineer reported that it had reached 100 floors and 400 meters on April 20, 2026. A 2028 completion expectation was reported in January 2026, but that is not a confirmed opening date for the public.
Jeddah Tower’s latest dated construction milestone
Thornton Tomasetti, the project’s structural engineer, said Jeddah Tower had “officially reached 100 floors and 400 meters in height” on April 20, 2026. That is the latest dated progress figure cited here; it should not be read as the tower’s live height on October 5, 2026. Thornton Tomasetti’s project update records the milestone.
A separate recent project-team update attributed to Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal says, “We have reached a height of 430 meters out of 1000+ m.” The update does not provide a sufficiently precise publication date to compare that figure directly with the engineer’s April milestone. Dar Al-Handasah’s project page carries the statement.
Will Jeddah Tower open by 2028?
Not on the evidence of the reported date alone. In January 2026, Kingdom Holding CEO Talal Almaiman was reported as expecting the tower to be completed in 2028. That is a completion forecast, not a confirmed public opening announcement; no precise opening date is established by the cited reporting. Reuters’ January 2026 report also says construction recommenced in January 2025 after a long interruption.

Completion and opening are different milestones. Finishing construction does not, by itself, establish when hotel operations or public access to the viewing platform will begin. The sources cited here do not confirm a visitor schedule or bookings.
How tall is Jeddah Tower planned to be?
The design is for a tower exceeding 1,000 meters. Thornton Tomasetti describes it as intended to become the first structure to reach a full kilometer. That would make it the world’s tallest building if completed to the planned height; it does not hold that record while it remains under construction. Comparisons with completed towers should distinguish their measured heights from Jeddah Tower’s design target.

What is planned inside the tower?
The project is designed as a mixed-use development, with a luxury hotel, serviced apartments, condominiums and offices. Project materials also describe double-decker lifts and a viewing platform on the 157th floor; the January 2026 report describes a planned observation deck at 630 meters. These are design plans, not confirmation that any facility is operating or open to visitors.
Design and construction details
Thornton Tomasetti describes the tower’s three-legged plan and continuously tapering profile as inspired by the folded fronds of a sprouting desert plant. The engineer reports a 5-meter-thick raft foundation supported by 270 bored piles, each 1.8 meters in diameter and reaching depths of up to 105 meters. These are project-engineer descriptions of the design and foundation.
