Jacksonville International Airport’s replacement Concourse B was nearing completion on October 9, 2026, with about 400 contractors working on final details and an opening expected in late January 2027. The schedule is a forecast, not confirmation that the building is complete or that airline service has begun. American Airlines is expected to use five of the new concourse’s six gates.
What is being built at Jacksonville International Airport?
Concourse B is a new, replacement third concourse between the airport’s existing Concourses A and C. It is designed to add six gates and passenger space, including holdrooms, concessions, restaurants, restrooms, and a corridor connecting the concourse with moving sidewalks. The airport’s Concourse B and Terminal Expansion Program describes a three-level building of approximately 165,000 square feet.

Project descriptions give different floor-area figures. The Federal Aviation Administration’s May 2024 decision document described a proposed three-level, 190,000-square-foot concourse, while later airport materials and local reporting give approximately 165,000 square feet. The available sources do not explain whether the difference reflects a scope change or a different measurement, so the figures should not be treated as a confirmed reduction.
How far along is construction, and when is it expected to open?
Jacksonville Today reported on October 9, 2026, that about 400 contractors were putting final touches on the approximately 165,000-square-foot concourse and that it was expected to open in late January 2027. That is the latest schedule in the cited reporting, not a verified opening date.

What will passengers find in the new concourse?
Plans describe six gates, holdrooms, concessions and restaurants, restrooms, and a connecting corridor equipped with moving sidewalks. February 2026 coverage also described plans for a pet relief area and family-friendly seating; those details were reported plans, not confirmation that the features were complete. The U.S. DOT Permitting Dashboard lists the project’s planned passenger facilities and walkway connection in its Jacksonville International Airport Concourse B project entry.

Which airline is expected to use the gates?
American Airlines is expected to occupy five of the six gates, according to Jacksonville Today’s October 9 update. That describes a planned allocation; it does not mean the airline is already operating from Concourse B.

In February 2026, the opening was expected in December. By August, reporting described a late-January ribbon-cutting and an expected January 28 start for American Airlines. In October, Jacksonville Today still placed the expected opening in late January, while reporting that the project had reached final-touch work. The practical change is that the opening expectation had shifted beyond the December date reported earlier in the year.

The project’s federal environmental review and permitting were recorded as complete on May 10, 2024, according to the U.S. DOT Permitting Dashboard. That administrative milestone preceded construction and should not be confused with completion or opening.
