Official sources do not verify a plan for “Perth’s first high-rise high school.” They describe two separate projects: Brabham Senior High School, whose published plans specify one- and two-storey buildings, and East Perth Primary School, which includes a four-storey teaching block. The latter is a primary school, not a high school.
What is planned for Brabham Senior High School?
Brabham Senior High School is the high-school project that may be behind the headline wording, but its published design does not describe a high-rise. The Western Australian Government’s September 2025 announcement specified one double-storey administration and classroom building, two further double-storey buildings, and three single-storey buildings. The listed facilities included a resource centre, computer science, cafeteria, food technology, science, education support, materials technology, health and physical education, as well as outdoor sports and parking. Western Australian Government, September 2025
The Department of Education says the school is planned to accommodate 1,000 students and provide specialist STEM, ICT, science, design and technology learning areas, a cafeteria, sports hall, staff facilities, hard courts, a playing field and education support facilities for approximately 45 program students. The department continues to identify “Brabham Senior High School” as a planning name. Western Australian Department of Education project page
Delivery and opening target
In September 2025, the government said $130 million was allocated to planning and delivering Stage 1, intended for 1,000 students in Years 7–10 from Brabham and Henley Brook, with the first buildings planned to be ready for the start of the 2028 school year. In July 2026, the government reported that construction had officially started and described the overall project as a $144 million, two-stage development. Stage 1 was still targeted to be ready for day one of school in 2028. The July announcement listed Stage 1 classrooms, administration and student services, a resource centre, computer science teaching area, hard courts, landscaping and parking. Western Australian Government, July 2026
The $130 million figure was the 2025 allocation for Stage 1 planning and delivery; $144 million was the 2026 figure for the overall project. They refer to different announcements and scopes, so they should not be treated as directly comparable project totals.

Where does the four-storey school plan fit?
East Perth Primary School is a distinct inner-city primary school project, not a high school. Its design includes a four-storey teaching block for Kindergarten to Year 6 and is planned to accommodate up to 600 students on opening. In April 2026, the Department of Education reported that site works had commenced under an initial development approval, anticipated opening in Term 1 2029 and gave an estimated cost of $165 million. Western Australian Department of Education, April 2026
| Project | School level and location | Published building form | Planned capacity | Reported opening target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brabham Senior High School | High school in Brabham, serving Brabham and Henley Brook | One- and two-storey buildings in the 2025 description | 1,000 students in Stage 1; approximately 45 places in the education support program, per the Department project page | Stage 1 planned for the start of the 2028 school year |
| East Perth Primary School | Primary school in inner-city East Perth | Includes a four-storey teaching block | Up to 600 students on opening | Term 1 2029 expected |
These are reported plans and targets, not confirmation of completed construction or final outcomes. The agencies’ published descriptions distinguish the projects by school level, location and building form.

Is Perth’s first high-rise high school actually under way?
That claim is not established by the official material cited here. The Brabham project is a high school, but its documented buildings are one or two storeys. The East Perth project includes a four-storey block, but it is a primary school. The available official descriptions do not identify a separate Perth high-rise high-school proposal.
Accordingly, “Perth’s first high-rise high school” should be treated as an unverified description unless a separate proposal can be identified and its site, school level, design height, proponent and planning status confirmed.
