Short answer: iRobot has stopped accepting new subscriptions for iRobot Select. However, the company’s public Select page does not confirm that every existing membership has been canceled, that current members must return their robots, or that Select will never return.
That distinction matters. The change affects prospective subscribers differently from people already paying for Select, and it should not be confused with the end of ordinary Roomba ownership, app support, warranties, or software updates.

What iRobot has actually confirmed
iRobot’s official Select page says: “Currently, we are not accepting new subscriptions.” It directs shoppers to iRobot’s regular retail store. The wording confirms that new enrollment is unavailable, but it does not announce a blanket cancellation of existing memberships.

The page also does not establish whether the pause is temporary, permanent, limited to a particular market, or part of a broader wind-down. Therefore, the most accurate description is that iRobot Select is closed to new subscribers, while the status of existing memberships remains unclear publicly.

What iRobot Select was
Select was more than a replacement-parts subscription. Under iRobot’s Select membership terms, the program bundled a Roomba—and, for some plans, a dock—with recurring payments, automatic accessory replenishment, protection coverage, dedicated support or an experience manager, and potential upgrade opportunities.
When iRobot expanded Select around the Roomba j7+ in October 2021, it announced a $99 activation fee and $29 monthly subscription. Those figures are historical launch pricing, not current pricing. They should not be used to estimate what a new or existing customer pays today.

What has not been confirmed
The available official material does not provide a current closure notice explaining what happens to every existing Select customer. In particular, iRobot has not publicly established all of the following:

- That every existing membership has been terminated;
- That existing customers are permanently “grandfathered”;
- That future accessory shipments will continue;
- That every member will receive another upgrade or replacement;
- That canceled members will automatically receive refunds; or
- That the program will never reopen.
Older promotional materials, a still-accessible login portal, and legacy terms do not prove that Select remains available to new customers. Conversely, customer reports claiming that Select was discontinued are useful anecdotes but not an official policy statement.
What existing Select subscribers should do
Do not cancel a working membership merely to test whether the program is still active. Under the membership terms, cancellation or nonpayment may affect future benefits, accessory shipments, upgrade eligibility, and—depending on the membership product—functionality.

- Review billing: Check your iRobot account and payment statement for the latest charge, renewal date, and any price change.
- Check shipments and entitlements: Look for pending accessory deliveries, protection coverage, replacement requests, or an outstanding upgrade offer.
- Search your email: Look for nonrenewal, price-change, service, payment-failure, or termination notices from iRobot.
- Contact iRobot before making a change: Ask whether your specific membership remains active, what happens if you cancel, and whether any unused benefit or upgrade entitlement is preserved.
- Keep records: Save screenshots of the account page, billing records, emails, and support correspondence.
There is no reliable one-size-fits-all answer for existing members until iRobot confirms the status of the individual account and plan.
Could canceling Select disable the robot?
This issue applies specifically to Select membership products—not automatically to every Roomba sold by iRobot. The Select terms say that customers own the membership products, but also state that if the membership ends or payments stop, the products may no longer function. The terms further tie membership products to the original membership account and do not permit them to be transferred or gifted under the stated conditions.
That creates an important distinction:
- A Select-linked robot may not behave like a standard retail Roomba.
- Ending the membership may affect operation or access to program benefits.
- A payment failure may have consequences under the membership agreement.
- Buying the robot from someone else may not transfer the underlying membership.
Read the applicable Select terms and ask iRobot about your account before canceling.

Buying a used Select-linked Roomba
Be cautious with marketplace listings that describe a Select robot as “like new.” A secondhand buyer could receive a device that remains associated with the original membership account or cannot be activated independently.

- The exact model and serial number;
- Proof of purchase or documentation showing the robot’s Select history;
- Confirmation that the original membership has been properly resolved;
- Evidence that the robot can be activated under a new account without Select; and
- A written return option if iRobot will not support activation.
If the seller cannot provide this information, the risk is not comparable to buying an ordinary retail Roomba. Ideally, confirm the device’s status with iRobot before completing the transaction.
Does this affect ordinary Roomba ownership?
No evidence in the available official material shows that ordinary retail Roomba ownership has ended. iRobot continues to list Roomba and Roomba Combo products, replacement parts, and accessories in its retail catalog.
iRobot’s current company update also says that existing products continue to be built, sold, and supported, including customer service, applicable software updates, and warranty coverage. The phrase “where applicable” is important: it is a current, qualified support statement—not a promise that every model will receive software updates forever.
A retail Roomba does not require Select membership for ordinary use. Questions about a standard robot’s warranty, app access, cloud services, or parts availability must be evaluated separately from the Select subscription decision.

Select is not the same as SmartCare

SmartCare’s separate terms are available at iRobot’s SmartCare terms page. Do not treat any reference to an iRobot subscription as evidence that Select is still available.
What should new shoppers buy instead?
For a new customer, the practical alternative to Select is generally to buy a Roomba outright, then purchase filters, bags, rollers, and other consumables as needed. iRobot’s current store lists Roomba and Roomba Combo models, accessories, and a trade-in program. Product availability, pricing, discounts, eligibility, and trial terms can change, so verify them immediately before ordering.
Compare the following before choosing:
- Up-front purchase price versus expected accessory and repair costs;
- Warranty coverage and exclusions;
- Whether the robot works without a recurring subscription;
- Dock capabilities such as self-emptying, pad washing, and drying;
- Replacement-part availability;
- App and cloud-service dependence; and
- Customer-service and repair options.
iRobot advertises a 60-day home trial for certain direct purchases, but the exact product, country, eligibility, and return conditions should be checked on the iRobot homepage before relying on it. A separate protection plan may also exist, but it is not a replacement Select membership and should be assessed on its own cost and coverage.
Shoppers can also compare outright-purchase ecosystems from Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs, Shark, and eufy. Compare subscription requirements, consumables, warranty support, dock features, and app dependence rather than assuming any one brand is a direct Select replacement.

iRobot Select is no longer accepting new subscribers. That is the confirmed change. The available official evidence does not establish that iRobot has canceled every existing membership or that Select-linked robots have universally stopped working.
Existing members should verify their own account, billing, benefits, and termination conditions before canceling. Used-market buyers should avoid Select-linked robots unless independent activation and account status are confirmed. Everyone else should treat Select as unavailable and compare ordinary, up-front Roomba purchases or competing robot-vacuum systems.
