Yuri Milner’s Los Altos Hills mansion was reported as a 25,500-square-foot French chateau-style home with a ballroom, indoor and outdoor pools, a wine cellar, a gym, and a spa. Contemporary accounts also described its limestone exterior, Bay views, and a dramatic entryway. Those reports offer selected details—not a complete room-by-room tour or confirmation of the home’s present condition.
What was reported inside the mansion?
Accounts of the estate describe a mix of formal entertaining rooms and large-scale leisure amenities. The Associated Press reported a ballroom, wine cellar, gym, spa, and pools both inside and outside. Inman’s account of the county assessment also listed a formal dining room, home theater, library, staff quarters, 14 bathrooms, and a 4,600-square-foot guest house. Forbes reported two dining rooms, a sauna, two three-car garages, and a private car wash.
These are features named in reporting, not a verified or exhaustive inventory. The sources do not establish that every room was photographed, whether the furnishings or amenities remain as described, or what the property is like today.
How was the house designed?
A contemporaneous Wall Street Journal account reproduced by BubbleInfo described a symmetrical limestone mansion inspired by 18th-century French chateaux, with views of San Francisco Bay. It singled out chandeliers and a frieze encircling a skylight in the entryway—specific details that convey the formal architectural approach without amounting to a full interior tour.

Architect William Hablinski said design plans began in 2001 and the house was completed around 2009. He worked on the project with then-partner Richard Manion. Hablinski’s short description of the project’s financial latitude was: “There wasn’t a real budget.”
How large is the estate?
The mansion was reported as 25,500 square feet and located in Los Altos Hills, California. Acreage varies by account: the Associated Press reported 18 acres, while later coverage of the county assessment described 17 acres. Because the reports differ, neither figure should be treated as a definitive current parcel measurement.

What did the mansion cost—and why was its assessment lower?
The Associated Press reported in 2011 that Milner bought the property for $100 million. The AP characterized it at the time as the highest price believed paid for a U.S. single-family home; that is a report-era claim, not a statement about the current record.
In 2012, Santa Clara County’s assessor’s office set the property’s fair-market valuation at $50.27 million. These figures describe different things: the reported price of a private sale in 2011 and a county valuation made the following year. They should not be treated as interchangeable estimates or as proof, by themselves, that the buyer overpaid.

The 2012 accounts noted that the home had not been listed on the open market and that seller financing was reported for half of the deal. David Ginsborg, the county’s deputy assessor, told Inman: “This was not a typical market transaction because it was never placed on the open market, so right there, there’s all sorts of additional challenges for the assessor’s office.”
Ginsborg explained the assessment’s premise this way: “Our job is to figure out, if it was listed on the open market — which this was not — what would other buyers have been willing to pay for it? Our conclusion was there was no way anyone would have paid $100 million.” Forbes quoted Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone as saying, “For whatever reason, and we don’t know, Mr. Milner purchased the property at more than it’s fair market value.” Those are the assessor’s and outlet’s interpretations of a dated valuation, not a new appraisal or a revision to the historical sale price.
