Residents interviewed by CBS Texas described its covered gathering space, shared meals and a close-knit culture; those accounts show how neighbors support one another, not that the community provides formal care.
What is The Bird’s Nest tiny-home community?
The Bird’s Nest is a community of pads for tiny homes or RVs on a reported five-acre site in Cumby, East Texas. IBTimes UK reported that it opened in 2022 and that Yerian invested about $150,000, using retirement savings. That figure is a reported estimate, not an independently audited total.

The community’s all-women character was not necessarily the original plan. CBS Texas quoted Yerian describing it as something that evolved: “It’s all women. It just kind of evolved that way.”

That is a snapshot from the time of the report, not a current count or demographic profile.
Where is the community, and how is it arranged?
The Bird’s Nest is in Cumby, Texas. IBTimes UK reported 14 concrete pads on the property. Residents bring a tiny home or RV to a pad; the reports do not establish the current rules for homes, leases or available amenities.
Its covered shared patio is called “The Kitchen.” Residents told CBS Texas that they gather there to talk and share meals. The common area gives neighbors a place to meet, but reporting does not establish that participation is required or specify current community rules.
How do residents describe life together?
Residents’ accounts emphasize relationships built through ordinary interaction and practical help. Donna Welborn told CBS Texas, “I didn’t know we would get this close,” and called the community “literally a sisterhood.”

Cheryl Huff described receiving support after heart surgery, while also acknowledging that residents may disagree: “We say you can’t come in here needy, but if you get here and you need something, there’s somebody there that’s gonna help you out because we have that relationship, even if we disagree on some pretty major things.” That is one resident’s account of mutual aid, not a promise of care for every resident or a substitute for healthcare or professional elder care.

How much does a lot cost?
IBTimes UK reported a starting rent of $450 per month in its August 27, 2026 coverage. The report does not establish whether that amount remains available, what it includes, or whether different pads or arrangements cost more. Confirm the current rate and lease terms directly with the community before making plans.
The same IBTimes UK report described a waiting list of more than 500 women at that time. It is a dated report, not a verified current list or an indication of current vacancies.

What should prospective residents clarify?
Media coverage offers a useful picture of the community, but it is not an operating agreement or a current availability notice. Before committing, prospective residents should ask the community directly about:
- Current rent, deposits, utilities, and exactly what a pad fee covers.
- Whether there is a vacancy or waiting list, and how inquiries and visits are handled.
- Which tiny homes or RVs are permitted and what site or hookup requirements apply.
- Current shared-space amenities, house rules, and expectations for communal participation.
- What support neighbors may offer and what medical, emergency, or daily-care needs residents must arrange independently.
IBTimes UK described the development as taking an RV-park zoning path and reproduced a quote attributed to Yerian through Realtor.com: “Getting zoned was the hardest part.” The reports do not establish the precise current land-use status or the permits and rules that apply. The account is not legal guidance, and another location may have different requirements.
