Johnny Depp’s so-called French “village” is a private estate near Saint-Tropez, not a public village or a property in Saint-Tropez itself. Reports describe a collection of homes and amenity buildings spread across a sizable rural site. The often-repeated $55 million figure was a historical asking price—not a confirmed sale price or current valuation.
Where is Johnny Depp’s French estate?
The estate is in Plan-de-la-Tour, a commune in France’s Var department near Saint-Tropez. The Los Angeles Times described its location and reported a 37-acre property in 2015; later accounts generally describe the site as about 15 hectares, or roughly 37 acres. Those figures are reported descriptions, not independently verified survey measurements. The Los Angeles Times’ 2015 report and Le Parisien’s 2020 account place it near Saint-Tropez, rather than in the resort town.

What is inside the private hamlet?
Descriptions portray a compound of residential buildings and practical or leisure spaces, rather than one oversized mansion. The exact building count and floor-area figures vary across reports, so the features below are best read as a reported inventory, not a definitive architectural schedule.
Main house and guest accommodation
The estate includes a main residence and multiple guest houses or cottages. A 2015 Los Angeles Times account described more than a dozen buildings in total, including a main house and guest cottages. A 2026 article hosted by Paris Ouest Sotheby’s International Realty described a main house of 400 square metres within a property of more than 15 hectares; that is agency-hosted reporting, not an official measured property record. Chapel, restaurant and wine cellar
Reported non-residential buildings include a former chapel, a restaurant or bar, and a wine cellar. The Los Angeles Times also listed a workshop or garage and staff house among the buildings in its 2015 description. These features help explain the “hamlet” label: the property was described as a cluster of structures with different uses, not simply a private residence with a few outbuildings.
Pools and skate area
Later descriptions mention two swimming pools and a skate area. Le Parisien’s 2020 report described the property’s facilities during its coverage of a lockdown visit. The reports do not provide a consistent, verified inventory of every structure or amenity.
Why was it called a $55 million estate?
The $55 million figure refers to a reported asking price in a later marketing round, given as €50 million by TF1 Info. It does not establish what the property ultimately sold for—or what it is worth today. TF1 Info’s report relayed the figure while citing the Wall Street Journal.
Published asking prices differed by listing round and date. The Los Angeles Times reported an asking price close to $26 million in 2015 and said more than $10 million had been spent on improvements. Le Parisien’s 2020 account described earlier asks of €23 million and €50 million, as well as a later $15 million ask. These are reported listing figures in different currencies and at different times, not comparable completed transactions. Los Angeles Times, 2015; Le Parisien, 2020

Did Johnny Depp sell the estate?
The available reporting does not establish the property’s present owner or confirm a completed sale. AD Magazine France wrote in July 2024 that the sale and ownership status remained unclear. A 2026 article hosted by Paris Ouest Sotheby’s described the estate as unsold and on the market for several years, but that is agency reporting rather than confirmation from a property registry or sale record. AD Magazine France, July 2024; Paris Ouest Sotheby’s International Realty, 2026
Accordingly, the most accurate description is a privately described estate near Saint-Tropez whose sale status is not conclusively documented in these reports. The $55 million label belongs to a past asking price, not a verified sale or current market value.
