Dakota Johnson bought her West Hollywood home in 2016 for $3.55 million. The midcentury-modern house, built in 1947 and designed by architect Carl Maston, was listed for $6 million in 2026; Realtor.com reported that it sold for $5,924,372. Its signature design pairs wood and concrete with expansive glass, a lap pool, and a kitchen finished in deep green cabinetry.

Where is Dakota Johnson’s house?

Although the property is sometimes described in coverage as being in the Hollywood Hills, Architectural Digest and Realtor.com identify it as a West Hollywood home. Those sources describe a three-bedroom, three-bathroom house measuring 3,200 square feet. Architectural Digest’s 2020 feature also notes that producer Ryan Murphy previously owned it.

Its address is not needed to understand the home’s design, and the published coverage identifies its location at the city level.

How much did Dakota Johnson pay for her house?

Johnson paid $3.55 million in 2016, according to Architectural Digest and Realtor.com. That is the historical purchase price, not a current asking price or an appraisal. Architectural Digest reported a $6 million asking price in 2026, and Realtor.com reported a closing price of $5,924,372 on June 29, 2026. These figures describe this property’s transaction history, not the broader West Hollywood housing market.

What does Dakota Johnson’s house look like?

Glass, wood, concrete, and a pool

Architectural Digest’s 2020 home feature describes a living room framed by oversized front doors on one side and floor-to-ceiling windows on the other. The windows open toward a lap pool, visually connecting the interior to the outdoor setting. Johnson summed up the effect this way: “It’s like a tree house. On a boat.”

The home’s materials continue beyond the main living space. The downstairs bathroom uses the same concrete as the lower level, while the primary suite has wood flooring. The original second-floor cork flooring could not be salvaged during the renovation; designer Emily Ward recalled, “The upstairs floor was made entirely of cork, which was really cool but wasn’t salvageable.”

A green kitchen and personal interiors

The kitchen cabinetry was painted Benjamin Moore’s Alligator Alley. The 2020 feature also named a Viking range, hood, and dishwasher, along with a Sub-Zero refrigerator; those are details from that feature, not confirmation that the appliances remain in the home.

Rather than relying on a single matched furniture set, the rooms bring together vintage and custom furnishings with Johnson’s own art and memorabilia. The feature shows a vintage Wurlitzer piano, built-in bookshelves in Johnson’s office, and a record collection. These personal and vintage objects help give the rooms character, but they should not be mistaken for a catalog of currently available matching products.

Who designed Dakota Johnson’s home?

Architect Carl Maston designed the 1947 house. For Johnson’s renovation and interiors, she worked with Pierce & Ward. Designer and cofounder Emily Ward described using mood boards and selecting fabrics with Johnson to shape the home around her preferences.

Johnson said she wanted a stable home base: “I thought it would be healthy to have a base,” and “This place is my anchor.” In the primary bathroom, she also joked, “I think the key to a healthy relationship is double sinks.” The comments reflect how the renovation paired striking architectural features with practical choices for everyday living.

What makes the home’s design distinctive?

  • Strong indoor-outdoor connection: Floor-to-ceiling glass opens the living room toward the lap pool.
  • Material continuity: Concrete carries through from downstairs into the bathroom, balanced by wood flooring upstairs.
  • A highly personal interior: Vintage and custom pieces, art, memorabilia, books, and records make the rooms feel collected rather than showroom-styled.
  • Characterful details: Oversized front doors, green kitchen cabinets, and the former cork flooring give the house memorable points of contrast.
