Yes. IKEA has its own peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling used IKEA products. It began as a pilot in Madrid and Oslo in 2024 and has since expanded to additional national markets. Sellers list items for other people to buy, with local pickup arranged between them; IKEA Buy Back and IKEA’s As-Is or Reuse stock are separate services.
What IKEA’s second-hand marketplace is
The service connects IKEA Family members who want to sell or buy genuine second-hand IKEA products. It is a product-specific resale channel: IKEA’s listing tools use photos, prefilled product information and suggested prices to help sellers create listings. Buyers reserve an item and arrange a local handoff with the seller.
Ingka Group announced the Madrid and Oslo pilot on 27 August 2024. In January 2026, it said the marketplace was active in five countries following Sweden’s launch: Spain, Norway, Portugal, Poland and Sweden. IKEA UK marketplace terms effective 16 September 2026 show a UK marketplace as well. Availability and rules can change, so check the IKEA marketplace page and terms for your country before listing or buying.
How buying and selling work
For sellers
- Check the marketplace terms for your country, including which items are permitted and any membership requirements.
- Create a listing using photos and the available IKEA product details and price suggestions, then set your asking price.
- Coordinate collection directly with the buyer. The transaction is local; do not assume delivery is included.
- Follow the local marketplace instructions for payment. Some IKEA market materials describe payout by bank transfer or an IKEA refund card with an additional 15% value; that option is not established as a universal offer.
For buyers
Browse local listings, reserve an item and arrange collection with the seller. Marketplace pages describe payment being held until the buyer accepts the item, but the precise process and protection terms depend on the country. Inspect the furniture at handoff and make sure its condition matches the listing before accepting it.

Where it is available and what the competition claim means
The service puts IKEA into the broader second-hand transaction space associated with platforms such as eBay and Craigslist. That does not make the services interchangeable: the IKEA marketplace focuses on used IKEA products, while the cited IKEA materials do not establish a like-for-like comparison of features, reach or market impact. They also do not show that IKEA has displaced either platform.
Availability has changed over time. Ingka’s January 2026 announcement named Spain, Norway, Portugal, Poland and Sweden; UK terms effective 16 September 2026 provide evidence of a UK marketplace at that date. These dated examples should not be read as a guarantee that the service is currently available everywhere or that every market has identical terms.

Marketplace versus Buy Back and As-Is
| Option | Who sells the item? | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| IKEA second-hand marketplace | An individual seller | Peer-to-peer listings for used IKEA products; the buyer and seller arrange a local handoff. |
| IKEA Buy Back | IKEA buys eligible goods from a customer | A separate route for customers selling eligible items to IKEA. |
| IKEA As-Is or Reuse stock | IKEA | Store or online inventory that can include returns, display pieces, discontinued products and items IKEA has bought back. |
These channels have different sellers, inventory and transaction arrangements. Check the local IKEA site for the applicable Buy Back rules and available As-Is or Reuse stock.
Eligibility, pickup and buyer protection
Check local listing rules
The marketplace is for IKEA products, but permitted categories and exclusions vary by country. Local terms may exclude food, mattresses or kitchen appliances; IKEA materials also describe restrictions on modified items, recalled products and non-IKEA goods. Sweden’s page says listings are reviewed before publication. Do not treat any one country’s rules as universal.

Plan a safe handoff
Pickup is arranged by the buyer and seller. IKEA Portugal’s instructions say a seller’s exact home address is not publicly shown and allow the parties to choose a public place or IKEA location. That is Portugal-specific guidance, not a guarantee about every market. Agree on the handoff location and inspect the item in person.
Buyer protection has limits. IKEA Sweden says a buyer may be able to cancel and receive a refund if an item is significantly misdescribed, while also stating that IKEA does not guarantee a listing’s existence, quality, authenticity or accuracy. A listing on IKEA’s marketplace should not be treated as an IKEA certification of the used item.

Fees depend on country and date
In the UK, the Buyer Protection policy effective 16 September 2026 specifies a mandatory 5% fee paid by the buyer on paid marketplace purchases. IKEA Portugal’s marketplace page stated that buyer protection was free through 31 August 2026 and normally cost 5% of the purchase price. Those are country- and date-specific terms, not a global fee schedule; confirm the current local policy before paying.

Ingka Group’s 2024 pilot announcement attributed a projected 6.4% annual growth rate for the global second-hand furniture market to 2024, and said IKEA made up 10% of the second-hand home-furnishing market. The announcement attributed those figures to CEO Jesper Brodin but did not provide the underlying study or methodology. They are company-reported figures, not independently verified measurements.

In 2026, Ingka Group described a 7% projected annual growth rate for the global second-hand furniture market and an expected value of USD 43 billion by 2030. The same release said IKEA products accounted for about 9% of the second-hand market in Europe and 4% globally. These are later company-published figures with different wording and dates from the 2024 claims; their methodologies are not established as identical.
Ingka also reported that 52% of younger people regularly buy second-hand furniture or household items mainly to save money, citing an Ingka Group and GlobeScan study. Its stated target of 170,000 marketplace listings in 2026 was a target, not a reported result.
