That example includes $7,030.77 in cabinets, $4,346 in appliances, $4,900 for a custom countertop, $1,365 in lighting, and $208 for sink and faucet. IKEA also notes that the average kitchen it sells, excluding appliances, is about $5,500, with typical installation around $2,500. Those are useful starting points, but they are not a full remodel budget.

The missing piece is installed reality. The product price is only one number. The final cost can include delivery, assembly, wall anchoring, mounting hardware, missing-part trips, wall patching, paint touch-up, trim, filler panels, outlet relocation, undercabinet lighting, plumbing connections, demolition, disposal, and permits.
For engineered wood products, look for TSCA Title VI compliance on applicable composite wood items sold in the US. TSCA Title VI covers composite wood products and finished goods containing hardwood plywood, MDF, or particleboard. That does not make every product equal in durability, but it is the baseline emissions rule homeowners should know about when buying furniture and cabinetry that uses engineered wood.
Material choice still matters. In our experience, IKEA pieces age best when they use solid wood, real veneer, metal, glass, ceramic, linen, rattan, jute, replaceable covers, or modular components. Ultra-low-cost surfaces can be fine in low-abuse rooms, but they do not like standing water, aggressive cleaning, repeated moves, or heavy point loads.
Assembly, Anchoring, and Real 2026 Costs
IKEA lists assembly starting at $52 through its official US assembly partner, Taskrabbit. Taskrabbit reports average US IKEA assembly bookings around $164, with city examples around $151 in Boston, $154 in Los Angeles/Orange County, $154 in the San Francisco Bay Area, $157 in New York City, $170 in Chicago, $169 in Washington, DC, $156 in Seattle, $198 in Miami, $155 in Austin, and $166 in Denver.
Broader furniture assembly benchmarks vary because the work varies. Angi reports a typical range around $50-$150 and about $150 per piece. HomeGuide reports $50-$550 depending on size and type. Thumbtack reports a national average range of $102-$221, with low-end examples around $61 and high-end examples around $421.
