IKEA announced 21 new Matter-compatible smart-home products on November 6, 2025, spanning KAJPLATS bulbs, five sensors, BILRESA remotes, and the GRILLPLATS smart plug. Matter broadens compatibility with other smart-home ecosystems, but these products still require a compatible hub or controller. Prices, stock, socket types, and release timing vary by market, so US buyers should verify details on IKEA’s US storefront.
What IKEA announced
The lineup is IKEA’s first major step toward expanding its smart-home range beyond its primarily TRÅDFRI-centered product family. The 21 products are grouped into lighting, sensors, and controls:

IKEA’s count includes several BILRESA variants and kits within its control-product grouping, rather than treating every color or package as an entirely separate product category.

The announcement is global, but it is not a universal release or price confirmation. IKEA says sales timing and local pricing vary by market. An announced product should not be treated as available in the US until it appears on the relevant local IKEA site or store listing.

KAJPLATS bulbs: 11 new variations
The KAJPLATS range covers standard bulbs, compact lamps, spotlights, decorative clear-glass bulbs, white-spectrum lighting, and color-changing models. IKEA lists the following variants:

The announced brightness range is 470 to 1,521 lumens. These are IKEA’s stated specifications, not independent measurements. IKEA also says the new bulbs provide more color choices and broader light-intensity ranges than the earlier TRÅDFRI range.
Socket naming varies by country. IKEA notes that E14 bulbs may be sold as E12 or E17 equivalents in markets using those standards. US shoppers should match the socket, voltage, and product listing for their fixture rather than importing a European variant based only on its appearance.

MYGGSPRAY motion sensor
MYGGSPRAY is intended for indoor and outdoor motion detection. It can trigger lighting in places such as entrances, staircases, and garages. IKEA’s announcement does not provide its operating temperature, weather-resistance or IP rating, detection range, or battery life.
MYGGBETT door and window sensor
MYGGBETT detects whether a door or window is open or closed. It can trigger lights and, when connected to a suitable smart system, send phone notifications. Notifications depend on the hub, app, and automation platform; attaching the sensor alone does not guarantee them.
TIMMERFLOTTE temperature and humidity sensor
TIMMERFLOTTE measures indoor temperature and humidity. A built-in button lets users view the readings, which IKEA says appear one after another. The announcement does not specify accuracy, calibration, battery duration, display technology, or historical graphs.

ALPSTUGA measures carbon dioxide, PM2.5 particles, temperature, and humidity. It can also display the time and is designed to work with IKEA air purifiers.

KLIPPBOK water-leakage sensor
KLIPPBOK detects leaks, sounds an audible alert, and can send phone notifications through a connected hub. It is intended for locations such as under sinks, near washing machines, and beside appliances.
This is an early-warning sensor, not an automatic flood-prevention system. IKEA has not said that KLIPPBOK can close a water valve, contact emergency services, or guarantee detection of every leak.
BILRESA remotes and GRILLPLATS smart plug
BILRESA remotes
The BILRESA dual-button remote can turn lights on and off, adjust brightness, change color, and trigger a preset scene. The scroll-wheel remote can perform those functions, control a group of products, and trigger a preset scene.

These physical controls may suit households that do not want every lighting interaction to require a phone or voice assistant.

GRILLPLATS smart plug
GRILLPLATS can remotely control ordinary lamps or smaller appliances, track energy use, and pair with a remote or motion sensor. Its purpose is to make a conventional product remotely controllable.
Do not assume it can control any appliance. IKEA’s announcement does not state the maximum electrical load, US electrical rating, or supported appliance classes. High-power heaters, pumps, major kitchen appliances, and other heavy loads should not be connected unless the local product specification explicitly permits them.
What Matter changes—and what it does not
Matter is designed to let compatible smart-home products work across a wider selection of ecosystems and platforms. In practical terms, the new IKEA products may be more flexible for households using Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, or another Matter-compatible platform.
However, Matter compatibility does not guarantee identical features everywhere. Basic functions such as on, off, and dimming may be more consistently supported than energy monitoring, air-quality readings, scenes, notifications, or advanced sensor automations. IKEA has not published a complete platform-by-platform feature matrix for this lineup.
Matter also does not remove the need for a controller. A Matter controller may be built into another device, such as a smart speaker or home hub, but it is not necessarily the same thing as a Wi-Fi router. Depending on the product and platform, setup may also require a compatible phone, app, local network, firmware updates, or a Thread Border Router. IKEA’s announcement does not identify the wireless transport used by every product, so buyers should check the local technical documentation.

No—not necessarily. IKEA says the new products can work with DIRIGERA or a compatible third-party Matter controller. But “no DIRIGERA required” does not mean “no hub required”: IKEA explicitly says Matter-enabled products need a smart-home hub or controller.

DIRIGERA has two relevant roles:
- It is a certified Matter controller for managing compatible products, including products from other manufacturers.
- It can act as a Matter Bridge, helping expose existing non-Matter IKEA smart products to platforms that use Matter.
The bridge function does not automatically upgrade every legacy product’s capabilities. It primarily affects interoperability and how products can be controlled. Existing TRÅDFRI owners should not assume that all automations transfer unchanged, that every legacy feature appears on every platform, or that all older products use the same pairing and firmware process as the new lineup.
What remains unknown
The IKEA announcement does not provide:
- A complete current US price list
- Guaranteed US availability for every bulb, color, socket, or sensor
- Battery-life figures for the sensors and remotes
- Electrical ratings for GRILLPLATS
- Operating temperatures, IP ratings, and detection ranges for MYGGSPRAY
- Measurement accuracy or calibration details for ALPSTUGA and TIMMERFLOTTE
- A complete feature matrix for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, and other Matter platforms
- A detailed firmware and software-update policy
A November 2025 secondary report listed DIRIGERA at $109, but that is a historical price signal, not a verified August 2026 US price. Check IKEA’s current local listing before budgeting for the hub.
Who should consider the lineup?
IKEA’s range is most interesting for buyers who want an accessible mix of lighting, physical controls, basic sensors, leak alerts, and indoor-air monitoring. It may also appeal to existing IKEA owners who want broader Matter interoperability without abandoning their current ecosystem.
Before buying, confirm five things:
- The product is actually listed and stocked in your market.
- The bulb socket, voltage, and physical format match your fixture.
- Your Matter controller supports the specific product category and desired features.
- Advanced functions—such as energy data, notifications, air-quality readings, or scenes—are exposed by your chosen platform.
- GRILLPLATS is rated for the electrical load of the intended lamp or appliance.
Waiting makes more sense if you need automatic water shutoff, professional-grade environmental monitoring, a high-power appliance controller, or guaranteed feature parity across smart-home platforms. Existing TRÅDFRI owners whose current setup works well also have no stated need to replace everything immediately.
Bottom line
IKEA’s announcement is significant because it expands the company’s smart-home range to 21 Matter-compatible products rather than simply adding another bulb family. The selection covers useful everyday categories, including lighting, motion detection, door and window monitoring, leak alerts, air-quality measurement, remotes, and smart plugs.

Its main limitation is that Matter improves interoperability without eliminating setup decisions, hub requirements, regional differences, or platform-specific feature gaps. Treat the lineup as a promising expansion, then verify local availability, pricing, technical ratings, and controller support before buying.
