Which IKEA lamp is this?
The lamp in T3’s January 17, 2026 article is the red IKEA SOLVINDEN floor lamp, designed by Aaron Probyn—not IKEA’s separate AVHÅLL portable lamp. IKEA lists the SOLVINDEN under article number 006.180.21 in the UK and 506.180.28 in the US. T3’s article reported the same prices listed below in January and noted that the UK product was sold out at that time; that availability note is historical, not a statement about current stock.

How bright is SOLVINDEN, and what are its settings?
IKEA specifies a built-in LED rated at 240 lumens and three brightness settings: “strong, medium and ambient.” That makes it more suitable for decorative or atmospheric light than for reading, detailed work or general room illumination. The lumen figure is IKEA’s product specification, not an independent test. One customer review on the US listing says the lamp was dimmer than expected; that is individual feedback, not a measured brightness result.
IKEA does not specify user-selectable color temperature on the product pages. Dimming changes the brightness setting; it should not be assumed to change the light’s color temperature.

Can you use it outdoors?
Yes. IKEA says SOLVINDEN is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and lists it as approved for outdoor use to IP44. That rating is the stated basis for its outdoor suitability; it does not make the lamp cordless or remove the need to place and connect it appropriately for the intended location. It is a corded floor lamp, so confirm that the cord can reach a suitable outlet where you want to use it.

Will it fit your space?
IKEA lists the lamp at 80 cm tall and 29 cm wide on its UK page, and 31 in tall and 11 in wide on its US page. It has a relatively modest footprint, but its corded design makes outlet location as important as floor space—especially outdoors.

Is SOLVINDEN the right buy?
It is worth considering if you want a red, dimmable floor lamp for mood lighting and value the option to use it indoors or outdoors. Its 240-lumen specification and corded design are important trade-offs: choose another kind of light if you need strong task illumination or battery-powered flexibility. IKEA’s AVHÅLL is a separate portable lamp, so do not confuse its battery and charging features with SOLVINDEN.
