IKEA appeared to be preparing two additional smart-blind designs in March 2022: PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN. Both were reported as compatible with Apple HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant through IKEA’s smart-home gateway system. However, the products had appeared on international IKEA websites before an official broad launch, so the listing did not guarantee immediate U.S. availability.
Two new IKEA smart blinds
The two models broadened IKEA’s lineup beyond its earlier roller-style smart blinds, including FYRTUR and KADRILJ.

TREDANSEN
TREDANSEN was described in the early international listings as a motorized cellular or folding blind with blackout-oriented fabric. The reported sizes were 120 × 195 centimeters and 140 × 195 centimeters, with a listed price of €149. Those were early, non-U.S. figures from March 2022—not current American pricing.
PRAKTLYSING
PRAKTLYSING was initially described as a motorized roller-blind design. IKEA’s later U.S. buying documentation classifies both PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN as motorized cellular blinds, so the original “roller blind” description should not be treated as a definitive technical classification. Early listings showed the same two reported sizes and prices beginning at approximately €125 or €129, depending on the market.

The cellular construction is intended to provide a different window-treatment format from a conventional roller blind. IKEA describes the honeycomb structure as helping reduce heat transfer, but that should be understood as an insulation-oriented feature rather than a guaranteed energy-savings figure.
How HomeKit control works
These blinds were not presented as direct, bridge-free HomeKit accessories. In the reported setup, Apple Home integration required IKEA hardware—specifically the TRÅDFRI gateway—along with the IKEA Home smart 1 app. IKEA’s compatibility documentation lists PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN among the blinds supported by the TRÅDFRI gateway system.

- A TRÅDFRI gateway for app and third-party-platform control in the original setup.
- The IKEA Home smart 1 app.
- Apple Home integration and the Apple Home infrastructure needed for the desired remote-control features.
IKEA’s FYRTUR documentation says the blind is pre-paired with its remote and Zigbee repeater, and recommends placing the repeater within approximately 32 feet of the blind. Exact pairing and range requirements can vary by product and installation.

Remote operation and smart-platform operation are separate layers. A blind can work from its paired remote while still being absent from the IKEA app or Apple Home if the gateway, account, network connection or integration has not been completed.
How they fit with FYRTUR and KADRILJ

The important change was therefore not simply two more colors or sizes. PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN added cellular-style options to a lineup previously associated mainly with roller blinds.
Availability and pricing were the main uncertainties
The original report, published on March 15, 2022, treated the products as catalog discoveries rather than a formal IKEA launch. IKEA had not yet broadly announced them, and availability was uncertain. International website listings also did not establish U.S. inventory, shipping eligibility or a release date.

IKEA later included both models in a U.S. smart-blinds buying guide, but that documentation does not by itself prove current nationwide stock, current U.S. pricing or the continued availability of every listed size. IKEA products, dimensions, product numbers and inventory can vary by country.
Before buying, check the local IKEA product page for:
- Available width and drop measurements.
- Mounting depth and installation requirements.
- Fabric opacity and blackout claims for the specific market.
- Current price and stock.
- Compatibility with the hub or gateway you already own.
The historic euro prices should not be converted into a current U.S. MSRP. A reported €149 price was approximately $163 at the time, but that conversion is only historical context.

TRÅDFRI versus DIRIGERA
Readers shopping now may encounter IKEA’s newer DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart app rather than the older TRÅDFRI gateway and IKEA Home smart 1 app.

The distinction matters:
- TRÅDFRI gateway: The gateway identified in the original HomeKit setup for these blinds.
- IKEA Home smart 1: The app associated with the TRÅDFRI system.
- DIRIGERA hub: IKEA’s newer smart-home hub, used with the newer IKEA Home smart app.
IKEA says DIRIGERA can connect supported IKEA products to Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa, and its documentation discusses DIRIGERA as a Matter bridge for some older Zigbee-based devices. That does not mean PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN were originally Matter-native products, nor does it make every hub and model combination automatically interchangeable. Confirm compatibility for the exact blind, market and firmware before purchasing a new hub.

Installation and smart-home checks
For a construction or renovation project, measure the opening before selecting the control system. A blind that supports Apple Home is still unsuitable if its width, drop, mounting depth or battery access does not work with the window assembly.
- Measure the window: Confirm the required inside- or outside-mount dimensions against the local IKEA specification.
- Plan power access: Battery-powered blinds need periodic charging or battery maintenance.
- Plan repeater placement: Keep the IKEA signal repeater within the manufacturer’s recommended range and provide a nearby outlet.
- Choose the correct app: Do not assume IKEA Home smart and IKEA Home smart 1 are interchangeable.
- Pair locally first: Confirm operation with the remote before adding the gateway or hub.
- Add the platform integration: Complete the IKEA app setup and Apple Home pairing only after the blind is visible to the IKEA system.
If Apple Home cannot see the blind
Check the following in order:
- Whether the blind is paired with the correct IKEA gateway or hub.
- Whether the correct IKEA app is installed.
- Whether the gateway or hub is connected to the network required for setup.
- Whether the IKEA account and Apple Home integration are complete.
- Whether the model is supported in the buyer’s country.
- Whether the app, gateway or hub firmware is current.
If the blind works with its remote but not the app, the local blind-to-remote pairing is probably complete while the gateway or hub integration is not. During an internet outage, IKEA says basic product operation is designed to continue, but remote access, voice control and other cloud-dependent features should not be assumed to work.

What this means for buyers
PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN were significant because they promised IKEA’s relatively accessible smart-home ecosystem in cellular-style window coverings, not merely another roller blind. Their strongest appeal is wireless operation, integration with Apple Home and other major platforms, and the possibility of lower-cost motorized shades than premium, professionally measured systems.
The trade-offs are equally important: standardized sizing, battery maintenance, uneven availability and dependence on IKEA gateway infrastructure. Buyers who need custom widths, professional measurement, hardwired power, guaranteed local stock or a completely bridge-free Apple Home installation may need a different shade system.
For these IKEA models, the correct buying sequence is simple: verify the local size and stock first, identify whether the installation uses TRÅDFRI or DIRIGERA, and then confirm that the exact blind is supported before treating HomeKit compatibility as a guarantee.
