WisDOT scheduled a shift to the outside lanes on I-94 between Hawley Road and General Mitchell Boulevard for the week of October 12, 2026, as median construction begins. The agency also scheduled long-term closures of two General Mitchell Boulevard ramps through spring 2027. Its October 7 notice does not confirm or explain automated lane gates.
What is changing on I-94?
During the week of October 12, 2026, traffic is scheduled to move to the outside lanes on I-94 between Hawley Road and General Mitchell Boulevard. Median work is to begin, and eastbound traffic is scheduled to use the project’s first newly built roadway section. Which ramps are scheduled to close?
- The eastbound I-94 exit to General Mitchell Boulevard.
- The General Mitchell Boulevard entrance ramp to westbound I-94.
WisDOT scheduled both closures to last through spring 2027. On Brewers home playoff game days, all General Mitchell Boulevard ramps are expected to be open. Check current conditions before traveling, as construction timing is subject to change. WisDOT’s October 7, 2026 notice

Are automated lane gates being installed?
The official information available in WisDOT’s October 7 announcement and its I-94 East-West project page does not confirm automated lane gates, identify their location, or describe how they would operate.
