Samsung oven Steam Clean loosens light spills and residue with water and heat so you can wipe them away after the cavity cools. For the general U.S. method, remove the racks and accessories, add one cup of tap water to the Steam Clean tray—or to the oven bottom if there is no tray—then select and start Steam Clean. Reservoir models may instead use Hybrid Clean and require 2¼ cups of water in the reservoir. Because controls and instructions vary by model, check your owner’s manual before starting.
Before you start: check your oven’s design
Steam Clean is available on some Samsung ovens, not all of them. The exact control sequence, water placement, and safety instructions depend on the model. Find the manual for your oven’s model number and follow it if its instructions differ from the general steps below. Samsung’s oven cleaning instructions also distinguish between tray/bottom models and reservoir models.
- Check whether your oven has a Steam Clean tray, a water reservoir, or neither.
- Confirm which cycle the controls offer. A reservoir model may call the cycle Hybrid Clean.
- Do not assume the cycle duration from another Samsung oven; the general U.S. instructions do not specify a universal runtime.
How to run Steam Clean on a Samsung oven
- Empty the oven. Remove the racks and other accessories, including a divider if your oven has one.
- Add the water required for your oven’s configuration.
- For the general U.S. tray/bottom method, use one cup of tap water—not distilled water—in the Steam Clean tray. If there is no tray, pour it onto the oven bottom.
- For a reservoir model using Hybrid Clean, Samsung’s U.S. instructions specify 2¼ cups of water in the reservoir instead. Do not use the tray/bottom quantity for this configuration.
- Close the door, select the appropriate cycle, and start it. Use the control sequence in your model’s manual; control layouts differ.
- Wait for the oven to cool before wiping. Samsung says a significant amount of water may remain after the cycle. Wipe it up with a sponge or soft, dry cloth once the cavity is cool.
A soft cloth is sufficient; microfiber is one optional cloth type, not a Samsung requirement.
Steam Clean or Self Clean: which should you use?
Choose based on the kind of soil. Samsung describes Steam Clean as the less intensive option for lighter residue that can be loosened and wiped away. It will not burn away heavy buildup. Self Clean is a separate, higher-temperature cycle that burns off or dissolves residue; it has its own preparation steps and safety requirements, which should come from your model’s manual.

Why the instructions can differ by model or region
Samsung’s controls and cleaning programs are not universal. For example, Samsung identifies a dedicated Steam Clean control on models in the NE63*631*S* range family, but that layout should not be assumed for other ovens. Samsung Germany’s instructions for some built-in ovens specify 400 ml of water and a C1 program lasting about 26 minutes; those regional, product-specific details are not instructions for every Samsung range.
Use the exact model manual for the control path, water quantity, cycle time, and precautions. If you cannot identify the correct water location or cycle on your oven, pause rather than guessing.
