To use Atlanta’s Georgia Express Lanes, open an active Peach Pass account, register each vehicle, install its transponder correctly, and keep a payment card available for automatic replenishment. The transponder is issued through the official process at no charge; the account begins with a $20 prepaid toll balance. Once activated, tolls are deducted electronically as you use an open lane.
Express Lanes are optional managed lanes beside regular interstate lanes. You can choose them when the posted price and expected travel-time reliability justify the charge, or remain in the general-purpose lanes at no toll. On I-85 and the I-85 Extension, vehicles with at least three occupants may qualify for free travel after completing the Peach Pass Verify occupancy process.

What Atlanta Express Lanes are and when you need Peach Pass
Georgia Express Lanes are optional toll lanes that run alongside existing interstate lanes. They use all-electronic tolling, so there are no cash booths to stop at. A roadside sign displays the current price for the available trip segment, and the Peach Pass GO! app provides a real-time rate map.

A Peach Pass account and a mounted Peach Pass transponder are required before a vehicle enters a Georgia Express Lane. The requirement applies even to vehicles that qualify for a toll exemption. SRTA states: “All vehicles, including those designated as ‘toll-exempt,’ must be registered on an active Peach Pass account and have a Peach Pass transponder mounted inside or on the vehicle to use the Georgia Express Lanes.”

Requirements, account funding and equipment
| Item | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Peach Pass account | Must be active before you use an Express Lane. |
| Transponder | Issued at no cost through the official Peach Pass process. Each vehicle using the lanes needs its own transponder. |
| Opening balance | The account starts with a $20 prepaid toll balance. Georgia.gov identifies this as the initial prepaid amount on its page accessed October 16, 2026. |
| Payment card | A debit or credit card is required for replenishment. Keep one on file if you want automatic top-ups. |
| Vehicle information | Have the vehicle, license-plate and driver-license details available when you enroll. |
| Occupancy claims | For qualifying free I-85 travel, use Peach Pass Verify in addition to the regular Peach Pass account and transponder. |
The $20 is prepaid toll credit, not a separate transponder purchase fee. Tolls are deducted from the account automatically, and the amount depends on the facility, entry point and exit segment shown on the sign or in the app.
Set up a Peach Pass step by step
1. Choose an enrollment channel
You can create the account online at mypeachpass.com, in the Peach Pass GO! app, by calling the Peach Pass phone center at 1-855-724-7277, or at a Peach Pass retail center. Use the channel that lets you enter and verify your information accurately; the account must be active before the first Express Lane trip.
2. Gather the information the account requires
Have your identity and driver-license information ready, along with the make, model and identifying details for every vehicle you expect to use. You will also need each license-plate number and a debit or credit card for replenishment. Preparing all vehicle information at enrollment avoids a situation in which a newly purchased or borrowed vehicle is used before it has been added.
3. Fund the account
The initial prepaid balance is $20. Add the required payment card so the account can be replenished as the balance falls. Automatic replenishment prevents a low balance from interrupting a trip, but you should still review card expiration dates and account alerts.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
4. Register every vehicle
Add every vehicle that may enter an Express Lane and pair each one with its own transponder. Multiple vehicles can share one Peach Pass account, but each vehicle needs a separate transponder. Do not assume that listing a license plate alone substitutes for the required device.
5. Install the transponder before driving
Follow the supplied windshield installation directions, or the supplied motorcycle instructions when applicable. The device must be mounted inside or on the vehicle as directed so roadside equipment can detect it. Installing it loosely, placing it in the wrong location or moving it between vehicles can prevent detection and create billing or violation problems.
6. Confirm the account and vehicle pairing
Before your first trip, check the account or app to verify that the vehicle, plate and transponder are associated with the active account. This is especially important when you have more than one vehicle, recently changed a plate or transferred a transponder.
7. Install the current apps if you need their specific functions
Peach Pass GO! is the current management app for balances, transactions and real-time rate information. Peach Pass Verify is used for qualifying I-85 and I-85 Extension carpool occupancy claims. They serve different purposes: GO! manages the toll account, while Verify handles the occupancy declaration.
Plan an Express Lane trip
Check whether the lane is open in your direction
Express Lanes are directional and their operating status can change. Enter only when the lane is open in the direction you are traveling. Read the overhead or roadside sign before committing to the lane; an open lane may display a toll price, while a closed lane must not be entered.

Read the posted rate
The displayed amount applies to the relevant facility and trip segment. Rates vary by facility, entry and exit, so there is no single Atlanta Express Lane price that applies to every journey. The Peach Pass GO! real-time rate map can help you check the current amount before you reach the entrance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCompare the price with your need for predictable travel
The practical value of a toll is the time reliability it buys on that trip, not simply the distance traveled. Consider how late arrival would affect a jobsite start, airport connection, appointment or delivery window, then compare that consequence with the displayed toll. If the lane is congested, closed, traveling the wrong direction or priced higher than the benefit you need, stay in the general-purpose lanes.
Enter and remain prepared to pay
Once you enter an open lane, the transponder is read electronically and the toll is deducted from the account. Keep the account funded while traveling; do not enter first and assume you can resolve enrollment or payment afterward. Continue following signs for your exit and leave the Express Lane where the roadway design permits.
How tolls are charged
SRTA manages toll collection on the Georgia Express Lanes System through Peach Pass, the state’s all-electronic tolling technology. A correctly mounted transponder links the trip to the active account. The account and Peach Pass GO! app show balances and transaction history so you can confirm the amount charged.
The amount is not a flat daily or monthly fee. It is determined by the facility and the entry-to-exit segment shown on signs or in the app. Because rates can change with operating conditions, check the sign immediately before entry rather than relying on a price seen on an earlier trip.

Using the I-85 carpool benefit
Who may qualify
On I-85 and the I-85 Extension, a vehicle with at least three occupants can claim a free-toll benefit through Peach Pass Verify. The regular Peach Pass account and transponder requirements still apply; occupancy status does not allow an unregistered vehicle or an unmounted transponder to use the lane.
How to declare occupancy
Use Peach Pass Verify’s process before and after the trip when the app requires those confirmations. Complete the declaration for the correct vehicle and travel period, and keep the transponder in its approved position. If the occupancy step is missed or not completed as required, the trip may not receive the intended free-toll treatment.
Read the sign before assuming the trip is free
If the sign says “HOV 3+ Only,” the lane is restricted to vehicles meeting the three-person occupancy rule. If the sign instead shows a toll rate, an eligible solo driver may pay the displayed toll. Do not infer the rule from the number of people in the vehicle alone; use the sign and the Peach Pass Verify instructions for that trip.

Watch the balance and transactions
Review the account or app periodically, especially after adding a vehicle or making a long trip. The transaction list lets you match the facility and amount to the trip you took. Automatic replenishment is convenient, but monitoring the balance helps you spot an expired card, an incorrect vehicle pairing or an unexpected charge promptly.

If you sell a vehicle, retire it, change its plate or no longer need its transponder, update the account or contact Peach Pass customer service to deactivate or revise the vehicle record. Leaving a sold vehicle active can associate a later trip with the wrong account, while moving a device to another vehicle without registering that vehicle can cause detection and billing issues.

- Clog resistant tip writes on dusty, wet and oily surfaces and is optimized for rough surfaces such as OSB, cinderblock and concrete

Keep payment details current
Replace an expired or canceled debit or credit card in the account before the next trip. A failed replenishment can leave too little prepaid balance for the toll you intend to pay. Check that the new card is attached to the correct Peach Pass account when several household vehicles share one account.
Troubleshoot common problems
The transponder was not detected
- Confirm that the device is mounted exactly as the windshield or motorcycle instructions specify.
- Verify that the vehicle and license plate are listed on the active account and paired with that transponder.
- Check the account transaction history and balance rather than assuming the trip was free.
- Contact Peach Pass customer service if the account is correct but the trip is missing or appears incorrectly.
The account is low or a card failed
- Review the stored payment card and replace an expired or declined card.
- Restore the prepaid balance before entering another Express Lane.
- Confirm that automatic replenishment is enabled if you want future top-ups to occur without manual action.
You entered with the wrong vehicle or before registering
Do not move the transponder between vehicles as a workaround. Add and pair the correct vehicle, then contact Peach Pass customer service for instructions about the transaction. Incorrect mounting or an unregistered vehicle can lead to billing or violation problems, and the official account record is the place to resolve them.
Your carpool trip did not receive the expected benefit
- Check whether the facility was I-85 or the I-85 Extension, where the described three-occupant benefit applies.
- Review whether Peach Pass Verify required a declaration before and after the trip.
- Confirm that the vehicle had an active Peach Pass account and a correctly mounted transponder.
- Use the sign’s wording to determine whether the lane was marked “HOV 3+ Only” or displayed a payable toll rate.
Decide whether an Express Lane is worthwhile
| Question | If the answer is yes | If the answer is no |
|---|---|---|
| Is the lane open in your direction? | Continue checking the posted price. | Use the general-purpose lanes. |
| Does the displayed toll justify more predictable travel today? | Enter with a funded account and mounted transponder. | Remain in the regular lanes. |
| Are at least three people traveling on I-85 or the I-85 Extension? | Complete Peach Pass Verify as required and follow the occupancy sign. | Pay the displayed toll if you choose the lane, or use the regular lanes. |
| Is the vehicle registered and the transponder paired correctly? | The trip can be processed electronically. | Do not enter until the account and equipment are corrected. |
| Is the prepaid balance and payment card current? | Automatic deduction and replenishment can operate normally. | Update funding before using the lane. |
Practical examples
A solo morning commuter
Check the sign or Peach Pass GO! map before entering. If the lane is open and the posted toll is acceptable for the time reliability you need, use the registered vehicle’s transponder and let the account deduct the toll. If the price is not worthwhile, stay in the general-purpose lanes; no Peach Pass trip is required there.
Three people traveling on I-85
Use a vehicle that is listed on the active account with its own mounted transponder. Follow Peach Pass Verify’s occupancy process before and after the trip when prompted. Then read the lane sign: “HOV 3+ Only” requires the qualifying occupancy, while a displayed toll rate indicates that a solo driver could pay, but the three-person vehicle still needs to follow the verification instructions for the free benefit.
A household with several vehicles
Keep one Peach Pass account if convenient, but register every vehicle and obtain a separate transponder for each. Before each trip, verify that the device in the vehicle matches the vehicle record in the account. When a car is sold, deactivate or update it rather than leaving it available for future toll processing.
Official guidance and support
Georgia.gov describes Georgia Express Lanes as optional toll lanes beside existing interstates, intended to help drivers reach destinations more efficiently. SRTA identifies Peach Pass as the technology used to collect tolls on the Express Lanes System.
