Samsung dryer cycles, settings, tests and error-code meanings vary by model, so use the manual for your exact model when a control sequence or installation detail matters.
Choose the right cycle and settings
Start with the garment care label, then confirm that your dryer supports the cycle and setting combination in its manual. Samsung notes that available cycles and compatible options differ by model; its cycles and settings guide explains the broad categories.
Sensor Dry for everyday loads
Sensor Dry monitors the load and ends the cycle when it detects the selected dryness level. Choose a setting suited to the fabric and load: bulky or larger loads may need a higher dryness level, while lightweight fabrics may suit a lower one. A lower setting can also be useful when you plan to finish drying by line or flat drying, if the care label permits.
Sensor Dry can end before a mixed load is evenly dry. Lighter pieces may dry first and affect the sensor reading while heavier garments remain damp. Sort by fabric and weight where possible. If you must dry a mixed load, pause the cycle and remove lighter items that are already dry so heavier ones can continue.

Manual Dry, Wrinkle Prevent and Rack Dry
Manual Dry lets you set a time when the selected cycle and model support it. Wrinkle Prevent tumbles laundry without heat after the cycle; Samsung describes durations of up to 90 or 180 minutes on many models, but the available duration is model-dependent. Use Rack Dry only on a dryer supplied with a rack, and install that rack as directed in the manual.
Smart features
Some compatible dryers offer Smart Care, which can help interpret a displayed code through the Samsung app. Smart Control or Smart Monitor features may use Wi-Fi and compatible apps; gas models may have monitoring-only functionality for safety. Names, app support and capabilities vary by generation, so check the model manual and Samsung’s current support information.

Clean the dryer and vent on a schedule
After every load: clean the lint filter
- Remove lint from the filter after or before each load, and clear lint from the filter compartment.
- Check that the filter is intact, reinstall it correctly, and close the door.
- Do not operate the dryer without the filter or with a damaged filter. If it needs replacement, match the part to your exact model; Samsung points owners to Samsungparts.com.

Once or twice a year: inspect and clean the exhaust vent
Samsung recommends cleaning the exhaust vent once or twice a year and recommends professional vent cleaning. A restricted vent can trap moisture, extend drying time and contribute to heating or temperature errors.

Samsung cautions against plastic or foil vent material, excessive length, unnecessary turns, kinks, flattening and gaps. Its troubleshooting guidance says each 90-degree turn reduces the maximum permitted vent length by six feet; confirm the applicable vent requirements in your exact model’s manual rather than treating that figure as a universal installation specification.
If you choose DIY cleaning, Samsung describes a vent-cleaning kit with a brush and extension rods, plus tools such as a drill, screwdriver, vacuum, pliers and tape. The procedure depends on the installation. Follow the model manual; for gas dryers, Samsung’s instructions begin by turning off the gas and unplugging the dryer. Use a qualified professional if you are unsure how to safely access or disconnect the appliance.

Clean sensors and the drum when needed
Clean sensor bars with a soft cloth and mild soap, then dry them. If a pen, crayon or other material leaves residue in the drum, clean it according to Samsung’s instructions before drying more laundry.

- Run a vent blockage test only if your model supports it. Samsung specifies an empty, cool drum for supported tests. Button sequences and result codes differ among models, so follow the instructions for yours rather than trying a sequence from another dryer.
- For a dryer that runs but does not heat, consider its power or fuel supply. Samsung says an electric dryer requires 240V; a partially tripped breaker can leave the motor running while the heater does not. For a gas dryer, confirm that the gas line was installed properly and is on, but leave gas-line or installation work to a qualified professional.
- Escalate if the checks do not solve it. Use Samsung’s model-specific troubleshooting or request service through Samsung Dryer Support.
Understand error codes and when to reset
Samsung groups dryer codes into categories that can include door, temperature, heating, communication, frequency and vent-test issues. Some temperature or heating codes can be associated with a clogged lint screen or vent. Meanings and remedies can differ by model, so look up the exact displayed code in the Samsung error-code guide and your model manual. If a code persists after its recommended checks, arrange service.
Resetting is not a repair for a blocked vent. Samsung advises troubleshooting first; repeatedly clearing a recurring code can erase information that may help a technician diagnose the problem. See Samsung’s reset instructions for the appropriate procedure, and request service if the code returns after the prescribed checks.
Know when to stop and get help
- Gas odor or smoke from a gas dryer: Samsung says to clear the building of all occupants and contact emergency services. Do not turn on appliances or electrical switches, and do not use a phone inside the building. Follow Samsung’s gas odor and smoke safety guidance.
- Visible smoke from an electric dryer: Turn the dryer off and request Samsung service.
- Damaged electrical parts: Switch off the breaker before interacting with the power cord. If the cord, plug or outlet is damaged or has burn marks, stop and contact an electrician. Do the same if a breaker continues to trip.
- Recurring code or unresolved drying issue: Stop repeating resets and consult Samsung support or a qualified service professional.
