To use an ultrasonic cleaner, first confirm that both the object and its care instructions allow ultrasonic cleaning. Then fill the tank with an approved liquid to the level specified for your machine, load the item in the required basket or holder, run an appropriate cycle, and follow the machine and item instructions for rinsing, drying, draining, and maintenance. These steps are a general guide—not a substitute for the manuals, which differ by model.
1. Check whether the item is safe to clean ultrasonically
Ultrasonic vibration can damage some materials or worsen existing flaws. Check the item’s maker guidance before cleaning, and ask a qualified specialist when an item is valuable, delicate, or uncertain. Honda Electronics warns that vibration may spread existing scratches or cracks, and that ultrasonic cleaning may allow water into a watch even if its case is described as waterproof. It advises against cleaning pearls and tortoiseshell. Promed also identifies soft gemstones such as pearls, opal, and turquoise, glued jewelry, antique watches, and specially coated spectacle lenses that have not been tested as unsuitable examples.
For lenses, jewelry, watches, instruments, or anything with coatings, adhesives, stones, or seals, do not assume that “waterproof” or “durable” means ultrasonic-safe. Follow the item’s care instructions or consult a specialist first. Honda Electronics’ ultrasonic-cleaner guidance and Promed’s UC-50 care guidance give examples of materials and objects to avoid.
2. Read the cleaner manual and choose an approved liquid
Check the manual for the exact machine before adding liquid. Some cleaners permit water alone; others allow a specified concentrate or a small amount of a particular detergent. Use a liquid only when it is allowed by both the cleaner’s instructions and the object’s care guidance. A household detergent, solvent, or other chemical is not universally suitable.

- [Efficient Ultrasonic Cleaner] This ultrasonic jewelry cleaner uses 48,000Hz high-frequency waves to generate powerful micro-vibrations, deeply cleaning jewelry, glasses, dentures, waterproof watches, and other delicate items without causing damage. (Note: Cannot remove oxidized rust.)
- [Upgraded Dual Cleaning Modes] This jewelry cleaner ultrasonic machine features two preset cleaning modes. A single press of the power button activates the 5-minute mode (ideal for routine cleaning), while a double press initiates the 7-minute mode (for heavily soiled items). For optimal results, use with a cleaning solution
- [High-Quality Material, Durable Construction] The inner water tank is crafted from premium 304 stainless steel, paired with industrial-standard ultrasonic transducers. Equipped with overheating protection, this machine prevents burnout even in case of a short circuit
- [Capacity and Portability] This ultrasonic cleaner features a 12oz capacity and compact dimensions of 7.6×3.8×3.3 inches. Ideal for home, office, or travel. Unlike bulky large sizes, the elegant size makes it perfect for on-the-go use
- [Low Noise & Stable Operation] The base features four non-slip rubber pads that ensure stable placement and effectively reduce operational noise. You can use it in your bedroom in the dead of night
For example, the cited Promed guidance warns against flammable cleaning liquids. The Magnasonic manual for its particular household model permits a small amount of non-corrosive, skin-safe jewelry concentrate or mild dishwasher detergent. Those are model-specific examples, not general permission to use those products in another cleaner. Promed’s guidance and the Magnasonic user manual describe their respective restrictions.
3. Fill the tank to the level specified for your model
Never run an ultrasonic cleaner dry. Use the fill marks and instructions for your machine; fill requirements vary. Honda Electronics says its equipment should be at least half full, or at least 80% full when fitted with a heater, and warns that an empty or low-level tank may malfunction. By contrast, Magnasonic’s manual for its cited household model says to cover the object while staying at or below the tank’s MAX line. Neither example establishes a universal fill rule.

Do not guess from another cleaner’s instructions. Check the manual for the tank level, any heater-related requirement, and whether the object should be submerged. See Honda Electronics’ fill guidance and the Magnasonic manual.
4. Load the item in the approved basket or holder
Use the basket, rack, beaker, or holder specified or recommended for your cleaner. Some machines require one; others recommend it for particular items. Do not let an item or accessory rest on the tank bottom if the manual prohibits that. Honda recommends an optional basket or beaker rack rather than placing beakers or cleaning materials directly on the tank surface. W&H says a basket is mandatory for its U-Son professional instrument cleaner and that instruments must not touch the tank bottom. Magnasonic recommends its plastic basket for sharp objects to help prevent tank damage, while noting that a basket can absorb some vibration and reduce cleaning ability.

These instructions are not interchangeable: follow the requirements for your exact machine and load. Honda Electronics, Magnasonic, and W&H’s U-Son information provide model-specific basket and holder guidance.
5. Select and run a suitable cycle
Choose only a cycle and temperature supported by the cleaner manual and compatible with the object’s care requirements. Do not treat a timer setting from one model as a general recommendation. Magnasonic’s cited manual, for example, provides five presets—90, 180, 280, 380, and 480 seconds—for that particular cleaner. Those are its timer options, not universal cleaning times.

Please use only the included power adapter and ensure the machine is operated below 110V for proper functionality.
Set the machine according to its manual, start the cycle, and let it complete as instructed. If you need an item-specific example, L&R Manufacturing’s eyeglasses and contact-lenses bulletin describes a procedure using its stated equipment and solution guidance, including a 3–5 minute cycle. That duration applies to that procedure, not to ultrasonic cleaning generally. Magnasonic’s manual and L&R’s eyeglasses and contact-lenses bulletin give those respective details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Remove, rinse if required, and dry the item
When the cycle ends, remove the item as directed by the cleaner manual. Rinse it only when the item’s care guidance or the cleaning-product instructions call for rinsing, then dry it using the method appropriate for that object. L&R’s eyeglasses procedure includes rinsing and drying; that is specific to its stated application rather than a rule for every item.

7. Drain and maintain the cleaner as instructed
Follow the manual for unplugging, emptying, and drying the tank. Magnasonic instructs users to remove and dry the object, unplug the unit, and empty the tank; Promed says to empty the water after each use and dry the interior. For W&H’s U-Son professional cleaner, the FAQ says to replace cleaning solution at least daily, more often if the chemical manufacturer directs, and whenever visible residue collects on the tank bottom. That interval is specific to the U-Son guidance; it should not be applied to every household cleaner.
Check your cleaner’s maintenance instructions for any additional requirements, including cooling intervals or care of the tank. See Promed’s care guidance, the Magnasonic manual, and W&H’s U-Son FAQ.
