Samsung says this repeats the hold used to activate the lock. Button labels and sequences vary by model and region, so use the manual for your exact microwave if your panel differs.
Unlock the control panel
The child lock prevents accidental operation of the microwave’s controls. On the panel layout covered by Samsung Australia, the same Lock (3 sec) button turns the lock off:
- Find the Lock, Child Lock, or Lock (3 sec) button on the control panel.
- If the panel says Lock (3 sec), press and hold that button for three seconds. Samsung’s instructions say to repeat the same hold used to lock the controls. Samsung Australia’s control-panel guide describes this procedure for Australian products.
- Check whether the lock indicator has cleared and the controls respond.
If your panel does not have that button
Do not assume that another button combination will work. Samsung notes that controls and settings can vary by model and region, and the cited three-second instructions apply to a particular panel layout.
- Find the microwave’s exact model code, usually printed on its rating label.
- Search for that code on the Samsung US microwave support page or the support site for the region where you bought the appliance, then open the matching user manual.
- Follow the manual’s lock instructions. For example, Samsung’s UK support page for model MS20A3010AH provides model-specific support and downloads.
- If the manual does not resolve the issue, contact Samsung support or arrange service through the relevant regional support channel rather than trying undocumented button holds.
Why the exact model matters
Samsung’s how-to is published for Australian products, and the brand cautions that models, sequences, codes, and settings may differ by region. A lock button, its label, or the method for releasing the child lock may not match across every Samsung microwave. Use the matching manual when your panel differs from the illustrated layout.

Samsung Australia’s control-panel guide was last updated on 28 September 2026. Its stated three-second hold is the supported instruction for the panel it covers; it does not establish a universal alternative for models without a dedicated lock button.
