What to do with a cut or potted live tree
Cut tree
A cut live tree cannot be kept as a living tree for next Christmas by packing it away. The United States Fire Administration says to get rid of it after Christmas or when it is dry (USFA Holiday Fire Safety). Local tree collection or recycling may be available, but schedules and services vary by location.
Potted or root-ball tree
A potted tree is not the same as a cut tree or an artificial one. Live-tree safety during the holidays
