Press Start/Pause to pause a running Samsung washer. The door may remain locked while the water level is high or the water is hot; wait for the lock indicator to stop blinking and never force the door. To end the cycle rather than pause it, use the cancellation control specified for your model.
Pause the washer or cancel the cycle?
These are different actions. Pausing temporarily stops the wash so you can resume it; canceling ends the current cycle. Samsung’s instructions and control labels vary by model, so check the user manual before relying on a hold gesture.

Pause to add or remove laundry
Samsung UK says it may be possible to add or remove items within five minutes after a wash starts. That timing is not a guarantee: water level and temperature can prevent the door from unlocking.
- Press Start/Pause.
- Wait for the door-lock indicator to stop blinking. If it continues, do not pull the door open.
- Open the door only after the washer permits it, then add or remove the item.
- Close the door and press Start/Pause to resume.
Some models show a Garment+ indicator; some front-load models have AddWash. These features and their labels are model-specific. Samsung notes that symbols vary between models: Samsung UK’s symbol guide.

Why the door may stay locked
A pause does not necessarily unlock the door. The washer can keep it locked if water remains at a level where opening it could spill, if the water is too hot, or while the cycle is still active. Wait for the lock indicator to stop blinking and follow the manual’s instructions. Never force the door; if the lock remains engaged, use the model-specific guidance or contact Samsung support.
If water remains and the door will not open
Some Samsung front-load washers provide an emergency drain hose near the pump filter. This is a model-specific way to drain remaining water, not a routine substitute for pausing. Samsung says some older front-load models do not have a pump filter or emergency drain hose.

- Check the user manual to confirm your washer has an emergency drain hose and to follow its exact procedure.
- Use a suitable container to collect the water and follow the manual’s steps, including replacing the cap.
- Turn the washer off and back on only as directed in the model instructions.
Do not remove parts or guess at a draining procedure if your model’s manual does not describe it. See Samsung US support for its model-dependent guidance.

Check whether Child Lock is enabled. The button combination used to turn it on or off depends on the model, so consult the exact washer manual rather than trying an assumed sequence. On some front-load washers, Child Lock can also lock the door. Samsung explains this in its Child Lock guidance.

If your buttons or indicators differ from these instructions, look up the complete model number in Samsung’s support materials or use the printed user manual. Do not force the door or improvise a button combination.
