How to Set the Clock on a Samsung Microwave: 5 Quick Ways

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The five Samsung microwave clock-setting methods are Clock, Options, arrow buttons with OK, Power Level, and My Settings. Which one works depends on the buttons and display on your exact model.

The correct way to set a Samsung microwave clock depends on the control panel. Start by looking for a dedicated Clock button. If there is not one, your model may use Options, arrow buttons with OK, Power Level, or My Settings.

Quick decision: Clock button? Use Method 1. No Clock button? Check for Options, an OK button with arrows, Power Level, or My Settings. Samsung uses different sequences across models, so do not assume that one method works on every microwave.

Method 1: Use the Clock button

This is the most common Samsung microwave procedure, although some models require a short press and others require you to hold the button.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Clock. If nothing happens, press and hold Clock for about three seconds.
  2. Enter the current time using the number pad. Enter the hour and minutes in the format your microwave expects.
  3. Press Clock again if the microwave asks you to choose AM or PM.
  4. Press ENTER/START, START, OK, or the equivalent confirmation button.

The clock should appear on the display, usually with a colon between the hour and minutes. On the Samsung ME18H704SF family, for example, you press Clock, enter at least three digits, press Clock again to select AM or PM, and then press ENTER/START.

#1 Best Overall
SAMSUNG 1.9 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave with Sensor Cooking, Matte Black Stainless Steel, MS19DG8500MTAA
  • SENSOR COOKING: Samsung Sensor Cook automatically adjusts cooking time for optimal results. From soup to frozen dinners, you'll get great results every time.
  • LARGE CAPACITY: With 1.9 cu. ft. of space, Samsung's largest capacity countertop microwave gives you plenty of room for any food you need to heat.

  • OPTIONAL TRIM KIT: Made from high-quality stainless steel, the Trim Kit accessory (sold seperately) gives you the flexibility to install the microwave oven in a wall or cabinet space.

Method 2: Use Options

Some Samsung models put clock setup inside the Options menu instead of giving it a dedicated Clock button. One documented example is the ME21M706BA.

  1. Press Options.
  2. Press 9 on the number pad.
  3. Press OK.
  4. Enter the current time.
  5. Press OK again to save it.
Important: The number 9 is a model-specific menu choice. It is not a universal Samsung microwave clock code. If pressing Options and 9 does not produce the expected menu, stop and check your model’s manual rather than trying random combinations.

Method 3: Use the arrow buttons and OK

Newer or more feature-rich panels may let you choose each part of the time with directional arrows. The cited Samsung MG11T5018CC example uses this type of interface.

  1. Press OK to begin clock setup.
  2. Use the left or right arrow to select the hour.
  3. Press OK.
  4. Use the arrows to select the minutes.
  5. Press OK again.

After confirmation, the display should return to the current time. Depending on the model, the display may show the cooking time while the microwave is operating rather than the clock.

Method 4: Hold Power Level

On some Samsung microwaves, clock setup is assigned to the Power Level button. The documented ME19R7041F procedure is:

  1. Press and hold Power Level for three seconds.
  2. Enter the current time with the number pad.
  3. Press Power Level once for AM or twice for PM.
  4. Press OK/START to confirm.

Do not use this sequence merely because your microwave has a Power Level button. It applies only when that model assigns clock setup to Power Level or its manual identifies the button for this purpose.

Method 5: Use My Settings

Some Samsung models include a My Settings menu. The cited MC17J8000CS example uses the following sequence:

  1. Press My Settings.
  2. Press 9 on the number pad.
  3. Press OK.
  4. Enter the current time.
  5. Press OK to save it.

As with the Options procedure, menu number 9 is not guaranteed to have the same function on every Samsung microwave.

Which method should you try?

What you see on the panel Best starting point
A button labeled Clock Press Clock, or hold it for about three seconds if a normal press does nothing.
A button labeled Options, but no Clock button Open Options and follow the model-specific menu sequence.
Directional arrows and an OK button Use the arrows to choose the hour and minutes, confirming each with OK.
No Clock button, but the manual assigns clock setup to Power Level Hold Power Level for about three seconds, then follow the model’s prompts.
A My Settings button Open My Settings and look for the clock menu.

If none of these panels matches yours, use the microwave’s full model number to find the exact instructions. The model number is normally printed on a label inside the door area, on the side or back of the unit, or in the original documentation. It is more reliable than searching only for “Samsung microwave,” because button labels, menu numbers, confirmation keys, and time formats vary by model.

How to find the exact Samsung instructions

Look up the complete model code in Samsung’s microwave support area and download the corresponding user manual. Use the manual when:

  • there is no Clock, Options, Power Level, or My Settings control that matches these methods;
  • the microwave uses a different confirmation key;
  • you cannot tell whether it expects a 12-hour or 24-hour clock;
  • the display will not accept the number of digits you entered; or
  • the model’s menu numbering differs from the examples above.

The model examples in this guide—ME18H704SF, ME21M706BA, MG11T5018CC, ME19R7041F, and MC17J8000CS—illustrate Samsung’s design differences. They are not interchangeable instructions for all Samsung microwaves.

After a power outage

A blank or flashing clock after power is restored is usually corrected by repeating the applicable clock-setting procedure. A power interruption may erase the saved time even though the microwave’s cooking functions still work normally.

If the Samsung microwave clock will not set

  1. End any cooking cycle. Clock programming may be unavailable while the microwave is actively cooking or displaying a timer.
  2. Use the exact button on your panel. Do not substitute the Clock, Options, Power Level, and My Settings sequences for one another.
  3. Check the time format. In 12-hour mode, the microwave may require AM or PM. In 24-hour mode, an AM/PM step may not appear.
  4. Try a long press where appropriate. Some models respond only when Clock or Power Level is held for approximately three seconds.
  5. Check the control lock. A locked keypad can make a working button appear unresponsive. Use the model manual for the unlock sequence.
  6. Check demonstration mode. If the panel behaves unusually or the microwave does not operate normally, consult the model-specific documentation for demo-mode instructions.
  7. Look for updated model guidance. Samsung’s support pages and manuals can contain model-specific corrections or newer instructions; the instructions for one model should not be generalized to another.

If the display remains blank, buttons do not respond, or the clock immediately disappears, the issue may involve the keypad, display, control board, or power supply rather than clock programming.

When a repair or replacement makes sense

Setting the clock alone should not require a replacement microwave. If the appliance still heats and the control panel works, the correct model-specific sequence is the sensible first step.

If a keypad, display, trim piece, filter, or other component has failed, check the full model code before ordering any part. Samsung’s genuine replacement parts and accessories are model-dependent; a part that looks similar may not fit or may not be electrically compatible. For an older, damaged, or obsolete unit, compare the cost and availability of a Samsung microwave oven with the likely repair cost—but treat replacement as a separate buying decision, not a requirement for setting the clock.

Do not open the microwave cabinet to investigate a blank display. Microwave ovens contain high-voltage components that can remain dangerous even when the appliance is unplugged. For internal electrical faults, use Samsung support or a qualified appliance technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which Samsung microwave clock method to use?

Look for a dedicated Clock button first. If there is not one, check for Options, an OK button with left and right arrows, Power Level, or My Settings. The full model number is the safest way to identify the correct procedure.

Does Options plus 9 work on all Samsung microwaves?

No. Samsung assigns different functions and menu numbers to different models. Options plus 9 and My Settings plus 9 are documented for particular models, not every Samsung microwave.

How do I reset the clock after a power outage?

Usually, yes. Repeat the clock-setting sequence for your specific model after power is restored. A flashing or blank clock does not necessarily mean the microwave has an internal fault.

Why will my Samsung microwave clock not set?

A locked keypad, demonstration mode, an active cooking cycle, an incorrect time format, or a failed keypad/display can prevent clock setup. Check the model manual before considering repair.

The Bottom Line

Use the control panel to choose the method: Clock, Options, arrow buttons with OK, Power Level, or My Settings. Because Samsung microwave controls vary by model, the full model number and its manual take precedence over any general sequence. A power outage usually requires only that you repeat the appropriate procedure.
