Removing the batteries from a Blink Outdoor camera usually restarts it; it does not perform a full factory reset. For most offline or frozen cameras, remove both batteries for about five seconds and reinstall them. Only move on to deleting and re-adding the camera—or resetting the Sync Module—when the simpler troubleshooting steps fail.
These instructions primarily cover the Blink Outdoor 4 and Blink Outdoor and Indoor Camera (3rd Gen). Older XT/XT2 cameras and products such as Blink Mini, Mini 2, Video Doorbell, and Wired Floodlight use different reset procedures.

First, identify your Blink Outdoor model
Reset behavior depends on the device. Check the camera body, packaging, QR-code label, or the device name shown in the Blink app. Both Outdoor 4 and Outdoor (3rd Gen) use two removable AA lithium batteries and normally communicate through a Sync Module.
Do not apply a Blink Mini reset-button procedure to an Outdoor camera. If you cannot identify the model, use the model name in the Blink app or contact Blink support before attempting an undocumented button combination.

What “reset” means on Blink
- Restart or power cycle: Temporarily remove power and restore it. This is the correct first step for a frozen or briefly offline camera.
- Delete and re-add: Removes the camera’s device record from the Blink app and repeats setup.
- Sync Module reset: Reconfigures the hub that connects Outdoor cameras to your home network.
- Factory reset: Returns a device to a setup-ready state. It is more disruptive and should be reserved for persistent setup or connection failures.
Blink’s troubleshooting guidance treats battery removal on Outdoor 4 and Outdoor (3rd Gen) as a restart—not as a universal factory reset. It should not be expected to erase account associations or all camera settings. See Blink’s Outdoor 4 troubleshooting guide.
Before resetting anything
- Save important recordings first. The effect of deleting a device or resetting system hardware can differ for cloud clips, local clips, and subscription storage.
- Sign in to the current Blink app.
- Have fresh, correctly specified batteries available.
- Keep the camera, Sync Module, QR code, or serial number accessible.
- Have the correct Wi-Fi password ready.
- If the camera is mounted outdoors, plan to reseal the rear cover correctly afterward.
The fastest fix: restart the Blink Outdoor camera
Blink Outdoor 4
- Open the camera’s rear cover.
- Remove both batteries.
- Wait approximately five seconds.
- Reinsert the batteries, matching the positive and negative markings.
- Wait for the camera’s startup or connection lights.
- Check the camera in the Blink app.
Blink recommends this battery cycle when Outdoor 4 is offline or cannot communicate with the Sync Module. It is a restart, not a confirmed factory wipe.
Blink Outdoor (3rd Gen)
- Remove the camera from its mount if necessary.
- Open the rear cover with the included tool, a coin, or a flat-head screwdriver.
- Remove both AA batteries.
- Wait approximately five seconds.
- Install two fresh AA 1.5-volt lithium non-rechargeable batteries, observing polarity.
- Replace the cover and secure it without overtightening the screw.
Blink recommends Energizer Ultimate lithium AA batteries or an equivalent specification. Battery life can vary substantially with motion activity, temperature, settings, network quality, and signal strength; advertised “up to two years” is not a guarantee. See the Outdoor (3rd Gen) setup guide.
If the camera remains offline
Diagnose the scope of the failure before deleting the camera.
Only one camera is offline
- Install fresh lithium batteries and check polarity.
- Move the camera temporarily closer to the Sync Module—about seven feet is useful during setup troubleshooting.
- In the app, inspect the camera’s signal-strength readings.
- Restart the camera using the five-second battery removal procedure.
Blink notes that fewer than three signal bars can contribute to intermittent performance. Building materials, distance, and wireless interference can affect the result.
Every camera is offline
The problem is more likely to be the Sync Module, router, or Wi-Fi credentials than every camera at once.
- Confirm the Sync Module has power and appears online in the Blink app.
- Unplug it for approximately 30 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for its LEDs to settle.
- Check that the router is working.
- If the Wi-Fi name or password changed, update the Sync Module’s Wi-Fi connection.
- Check both signal paths: camera to Sync Module and Sync Module to router.
Outdoor 4 and Outdoor (3rd Gen) communicate through the Sync Module rather than joining the router in the same way as a standalone Blink Mini. Blink’s Wi-Fi guide explains the network requirements, including use of a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection.

Mesh network or extender interference
For troubleshooting, simplify the network temporarily by disconnecting mesh pods or extenders and leaving only the main router active. Once the Sync Module reconnects, reconnect the additional equipment and test the system again. This is a troubleshooting step, not a requirement that every home permanently remove its mesh network.

Delete and re-add the camera in the Blink app
Use this step when the camera remains unusable after a restart, its app record appears corrupted or incomplete, you are moving it to another system in the same account, or Blink directs you to repeat setup. Do not use it merely because the camera was briefly offline.
- From the Blink Home screen, tap the camera’s More button, usually shown as three dots.
- Tap Device Settings.
- Open General Settings.
- Tap Delete Device and confirm.
- Return to the Home screen and tap the + Add Device icon.
- Choose the relevant Outdoor camera.
- Scan its QR code or enter the serial number manually.
- Follow the setup prompts and assign it to the intended system.
Menu names can vary slightly by app version. The stable concepts are the camera’s More menu, Device Settings, General Settings, and Delete Device. Blink’s current app documentation describes this device-removal path.
When to reset the Sync Module
Reset the Sync Module only after checking its power, router connection, Wi-Fi credentials, and signal strength. It is usually the deeper reset when multiple cameras are offline or the module cannot join Wi-Fi.
Sync Module Core and Sync Module 2
- Unplug the Sync Module.
- Press and hold the reset button on its back.
- While holding the button, plug the module back into power.
- Continue holding for approximately five seconds.
- Release the button when the LED begins blinking red.
- Wait while the module cycles through its light patterns.
- A blinking blue and solid green pattern indicates that it is ready for setup again.
On the first-generation Sync Module, the reset button is next to the USB port and may require a thin object such as a paperclip or toothpick. Do not press an unmarked control or use a sharp object to pry open the camera. Follow Blink’s Sync Module factory-reset instructions for the exact hardware version.
Set up the system again after a Sync Module reset
- Open the Blink app and tap + Add Device.
- Select Sync Module.
- Scan the module’s QR code or enter its serial number.
- Create or select a system.
- Wait for the blinking blue and solid green setup-ready pattern.
- When prompted, allow the phone to connect to the temporary network named like BLINK-XXXX, ending in the last four digits of the module’s serial number.
- Select the available 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password.
- Add the Outdoor camera by scanning its QR code or entering its serial number.
A Sync Module reset does not automatically make the camera available in the newly configured system; the camera may need to be added again.

The camera has no light
Check for depleted batteries, reversed polarity, or batteries that are unsuitable for the model. Install fresh AA lithium batteries and verify the markings. No light alone does not prove that the camera has failed: LED behavior depends on the camera’s operating state. If there is still no response after correct battery installation, contact Blink support.
The camera flashes red
Red flashes can indicate different conditions depending on model and operating state. On Outdoor (3rd Gen), startup may include several long red flashes followed by a short red flash about every three seconds while disconnected; weak batteries or connectivity problems can also cause repeated red flashes. On Outdoor 4, a flashing red light can occur during setup mode or a Wi-Fi/system change. Use Blink’s red-light guide rather than assuming every red light calls for a factory reset.
The app says “No Sync Module”
Set up a compatible Sync Module before adding Outdoor 4 or Outdoor (3rd Gen). These cameras are dependent devices in systems that require the module.

The app says the serial number is registered to another account
This is an account-ownership problem, not something battery removal can solve. The previous owner must remove the camera from their Blink account. For a gifted or second-hand camera, contact Blink support if the previous owner is unavailable; do not rely on undocumented reset methods.
The Wi-Fi password or router changed
For these Outdoor models, update the Sync Module’s Wi-Fi connection rather than trying to configure the camera as an independent router client. Blink provides an Wi-Fi update guide.
When to contact Blink support
Contact Blink when fresh batteries and correct polarity produce persistent abnormal behavior, the Sync Module repeatedly fails its factory-reset setup, the camera appears to have a hardware fault, or a second-hand camera remains locked to another account and the prior owner cannot remove it. Save the serial number, model, LED behavior, and troubleshooting steps you have already completed.

How long should the batteries stay out of a Blink Outdoor camera?
For the Outdoor 4 and Outdoor (3rd Gen) restart procedure, Blink recommends removing both batteries for approximately five seconds before reinstalling them.
Can I reset a Blink Outdoor camera without the app?
You can restart it by removing and reinstalling its batteries, but deleting and re-adding the camera or configuring a reset Sync Module requires the Blink app.
Can I use rechargeable or alkaline batteries?
Blink recommends two AA 1.5-volt lithium non-rechargeable batteries for these models. Other battery types may provide shorter or less predictable performance; follow the documentation for your exact camera.
Will resetting delete my Blink recordings?
Do not assume recordings are preserved in every situation. Storage location, clip type, account, and current Blink policies matter, so save important cloud or local clips before deleting a device or resetting the Sync Module.
