On most Samsung dryers with a removable lint filter, open the door and pull the filter out of its slot—on some models, it lifts upward. Turn the dryer off first, keep any rubber seal attached, and reinstall the filter before running the appliance. Samsung calls this part a “lint filter”; the location and removal direction can vary by model.
Before removing the lint filter
Turn the dryer off and let the drum cool if it has recently been used. Samsung Canada recommends unplugging the dryer before cleaning. Find the filter inside the drum or near the door opening; its position differs across models and markets. If you cannot identify it or it does not move as expected, check the manual for your exact model code rather than forcing it. Some washer-dryer combo models do not have a removable lint filter.
How to remove and clean the filter
- Open the dryer door. Locate the lint filter in the drum or at the dryer entrance, depending on the model.
- Pull the filter out gently. Grip it and pull it from its slot. Some models’ filters lift upward. If it resists or the direction is unclear, stop and consult the model manual.
- Keep the seal in place. If the filter has a rubber seal, do not remove it. Avoid shaking or tapping the filter, which can damage it.
- Remove the lint. Clear lint from the filter. Samsung US says a pipe cleaner can also be used to clear lint from the filter compartment; this is optional.
- Wash only as the model instructions allow. For applicable filters, Samsung guidance describes rinsing under running water. Avoid excessive water and let a washed filter dry completely before reinstalling it.
- Reassemble and reinstall. If the filter has inner and outer sections, put them back together as directed. Return the filter to its original position and check that it is installed securely before starting a cycle.
Why the exact model matters
Samsung’s regional instructions show that filter placement and removal direction are not universal. For example, Samsung Colombia’s guidance applies to DV models and notes that most washer-dryer combos do not have a removable lint filter. Samsung Australia also says location varies by model. Use the manual for your model code when the filter is not apparent or the general steps do not match the appliance.
Samsung warns against operating a dryer without its filter or with a damaged or broken filter. A wet filter can also affect drying performance; Samsung regional guidance associates using one before it is fully dry with odor or mold concerns. Do not reinstall it until it is completely dry.

If the dryer still does not dry well
A clogged lint filter can impede heating. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance recommends cleaning the filter before or after each cycle when troubleshooting poor drying. Cleaning the filter is a sensible first check, but it does not establish that every heating or drying problem is caused by the filter or will be fixed by cleaning it. Replacing a damaged or missing filter
Do not use a damaged or broken filter. Samsung directs US readers seeking a replacement to Samsungparts.com. Samsung Colombia lists DC61-02595A and DC61-05489A as examples of replacement-filter part numbers, not universal fits. Match a replacement to your dryer’s model code and the parts catalog for your market before buying.
