Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Vivint’s official Outdoor Camera removal process typically takes 10–15 minutes and calls for a T5 screwdriver and pliers. The basic sequence is to disconnect the camera’s PoE equipment, unplug the PoE, support and unscrew the camera, disconnect the Ethernet cable, and then decide whether to remove or secure the cable run.
Physical removal is not the same as deleting the camera from the Vivint app, cancelling monitoring, paying off equipment, or ending your contract. The wiring and power setup can also vary by camera generation, so confirm what you have before starting. Vivint’s official instructions are in its Outdoor Camera Removal Guide.

First decide what “remove” means
Before touching the camera, choose the outcome you need:
- Temporary shutdown: power the camera down but leave the mount and wiring in place.
- Physical camera removal: take down the camera, and possibly its bracket.
- Cable removal: extract the Ethernet cable from the wall or exterior routing.
- Device deletion: remove the camera from the Vivint panel or app, if the correct model-specific option is available.
- System removal: take down the entire Vivint installation.
- Service cancellation: end monitoring and handle contract, billing, financing, and return obligations.
Removing one outdoor camera does not automatically perform any of the last three actions.

Check the camera and power arrangement
The current Vivint removal guide covers an installation with an Ethernet connection at the camera and PoE equipment identified as a PLC or Wi-Fi Bridge. Do not assume every Vivint outdoor camera uses identical hardware. Vivint’s documentation for the Outdoor Camera Pro Gen 2, for example, describes a wired power cord routed through the wall to an outlet or breaker.
Trace the camera’s cable and identify the equipment supplying its power or network connection before disconnecting anything. If you cannot confidently identify the correct device, stop and contact Vivint or a qualified low-voltage professional.
Before removal: safety and account checks
- Choose a safe time. Disarm the system or place it in the appropriate service state before disconnecting equipment. Vivint’s outdoor-camera removal guide does not publish a universal disarm sequence, so confirm the correct procedure for your monitored system if you are unsure.
- Photograph the installation. Take pictures of the camera, bracket, cable path, power equipment, and serial number. This helps with reinstallation, returns, and troubleshooting.
- Check ownership and return requirements. Review your Purchase and Service Agreement and ask Vivint whether the camera, PoE equipment, or other components must be returned.
- Plan the cable decision. Decide whether to leave the Ethernet run in place for possible reuse or remove it. Cable routing may make extraction much more difficult than camera removal.
- Arrange safe access. Use a suitable ladder on stable ground, and have another person support the camera if it is elevated. Vivint warns that customers who uninstall equipment themselves may be responsible for resulting damage.

How to remove a Vivint Outdoor Camera
- Locate the camera’s PoE equipment. Find the PLC, Wi-Fi Bridge, PoE injector, or other equipment connected to the camera’s Ethernet cable. Label the cable if multiple network cables are nearby.
- Disconnect Ethernet from the PoE equipment. Remove the camera’s Ethernet connection from the PoE device. Avoid unplugging unrelated networking or security equipment.
- Unplug the PoE. Disconnect the PoE equipment from its power source. If your installation uses a different documented power arrangement, follow the instructions for that model rather than assuming the PoE sequence applies.
- Support the camera. Hold the camera or have a helper support it before loosening the final fastener. Do not let the camera hang from its Ethernet cable.
- Remove the mounting screws. Use the T5 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the camera to its mounting bracket. Keep the fasteners if the camera may be reinstalled.
- Disconnect Ethernet at the camera. After releasing the camera from the bracket, unplug the Ethernet cable from the connection at its base.
- Remove the camera and bracket. Take the camera away from the property. Remove the bracket as well if you are restoring the wall or no longer need the mounting hardware.
- Handle the remaining cable carefully. If you want the cable gone, Vivint notes that the route varies and it may need to be pulled through the wall. Do not yank it, cut it, or continue if it is stapled, bonded, trapped behind masonry or siding, or routed near electrical wiring.
- Seal and repair the opening. If the cable remains, secure it and protect the exposed end. Repair exterior screw holes and the cable-entry penetration with materials suitable for the façade. Patch any interior opening. Do not seal an entry point until you have confirmed that the remaining cable is not carrying power.
Should you delete the camera from the Vivint app or panel?
Vivint’s current Outdoor Camera Removal Guide focuses on physical removal and does not publish a universal app or panel deletion path for every outdoor-camera installation. Do not automatically apply an indoor-camera procedure to an outdoor camera.
If you are replacing the camera or it remains listed in your account, open the camera’s device settings and look for a remove or delete option. Confirm the device name and physical location before selecting anything. If no option appears, or the interface does not match your camera, contact Vivint rather than guessing.
Vivint’s documented workflows for some other camera models include paths such as Menu > Devices > enter PIN > Cameras > select camera > Delete, while some Hub Lite workflows use Cameras > three-dot menu > Settings > Delete camera. Those instructions are model- and interface-specific; they are not proof that the same path applies to your outdoor camera. See Vivint’s Ping Camera instructions and Indoor Camera Pro Hub Lite guide for their stated scopes.

- Quick Setup with a Pre-Paired System: Connect aosuBase to your router's LAN port with the included Ethernet cable. Cameras connect wirelessly to aosuBase instead of your home Wi-Fi. The system comes pre-paired, so simply power on the cameras and complete setup in the app without pairing each camera one by one. The cameras are designed to work with the included aosuBase, and add-on cameras connect through the base as well.
If you only want the camera offline
Unplugging power is a temporary shutdown, not a complete removal. For the Outdoor Camera Pro Gen 2, Vivint says a power cycle can involve unplugging the power cord or switching off the relevant breaker, waiting 30–45 seconds, and restoring power. Follow the model-specific instructions and do not switch off an unknown breaker.
For permanent removal, you still need to disconnect the supply equipment, remove the camera from its bracket, disconnect the cable, and address the wall and cable opening.
What to do with the removed equipment
Reinstalling it elsewhere
Keep the camera, bracket, screws, cable, and power equipment together. Photograph the serial number and protect the camera during transport. Do not assume that a camera can operate at another property or that it will be compatible with a different Vivint account or installation.

Returning it to Vivint
Return requirements depend on ownership, financing, and your agreement. Ask Vivint for written instructions and a shipping label if applicable. Photograph the packed equipment, keep the receipt and tracking number, and do not discard anything until Vivint confirms that disposal is allowed.
Keeping or disposing of it
Vivint states that financed equipment becomes owned once the remaining balance is fully paid, but equipment financing and service obligations are separate. Confirm ownership and any return requirement before keeping, selling, recycling, or discarding the camera.

Professional removal and reinstallation may be preferable for a multi-device system or difficult wiring. Vivint says professional removal for a move may take approximately 1–2 hours after the technician arrives, while self-removal can take roughly 20 minutes to several hours depending on the equipment. A moves policy lists $149 in a specific “remove, but don’t move” context, but that page is dated April 23, 2018 and fees vary. Treat it as a reference point, not a guaranteed current price; confirm the charge for your account and location.
If you are cancelling Vivint
Removing the camera does not cancel monitoring, stop monthly billing, erase an equipment-financing balance, or end contractual obligations. Handle these separately:
- Camera removal: physical and device-management work.
- Plan change: an account change that may affect available system functions.
- Service cancellation: a contract and billing matter that may involve fees.
- Equipment payoff: a financing obligation separate from service charges.
Check your agreement and ask Vivint about notice requirements, cancellation fees, equipment returns, and any remaining balance. Request written confirmation of the cancellation date and return instructions. Vivint’s terms and company information, billing FAQ, and contact page are useful starting points, but your agreement and account-specific instructions control.
When professional removal is the safer choice
Use Vivint or a qualified low-voltage installer when:
- The camera requires a tall, unstable, or roof-level ladder.
- The cable disappears behind brick, stucco, stone, siding, insulation, or a waterproof façade.
- You cannot identify the power source or suspect proximity to electrical wiring.
- The cable is damaged, firmly trapped, or difficult to pull.
- The installation penetrates a wall that must be restored and weatherproofed.
- The equipment is leased, financed, or subject to a return requirement.
- You are moving and want removal, transport, and reinstallation coordinated.
Vivint says technician assistance may involve a trip fee. Ask for the current account-specific cost before scheduling.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting after removal
- The camera still appears in the app: it may still be registered even though it is offline. Check the exact device settings or contact Vivint.
- Other devices lose connectivity: you may have disconnected shared networking or power equipment. Recheck the cable and PoE/bridge connections.
- The system reports a missing or tampered device: use the panel’s instructions or contact Vivint, particularly if the system is monitored.
- The camera will not reconnect after reinstallation: verify both Ethernet connections, power, the cable path, and the model-specific setup process.
- The exterior opening is exposed: stop water entry with appropriate exterior-rated repair materials or hire a professional if the façade or weather barrier is compromised.
- You cannot identify the correct power source: do not cut or pull unknown wiring. Have a qualified technician trace it.
