To hear a holiday sound inside your home when someone presses a Ring Video Doorbell, select the tone on a connected Ring Chime, Chime Pro, or Chime Plus. The setting is normally on the indoor Chime—not on the outdoor doorbell—and seasonal tones may appear only during Ring’s holiday availability window.
Quick setup
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the Chime, Chime Pro, or Chime Plus device tile.
- Tap Device Settings.
- Tap Audio Settings.
- Tap Chime Tones.
- Select Doorbell Rings.
- Choose an available holiday or seasonal tone.
- Tap Save, then press the doorbell to test it.
Ring documents this control in its Chime alert settings. The menu labels may vary slightly after an app update.

What you need
For a holiday sound throughout the house, you need a Ring Video Doorbell and a compatible indoor Ring Chime, Chime Pro, or Chime Plus. Both devices should be online and connected to the same Ring account.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA traditional wired mechanical or digital chime is a separate device. It is not the same as a plug-in Ring Chime, and selecting a Ring Chime tone will not necessarily replace the sound produced by the wired unit.

Choose the correct event
Ring lets you assign different sounds to Doorbell Rings and Motion Detected. Select Doorbell Rings if you want the holiday sound when a visitor presses the button. Selecting the tone only under Motion Detected will not change the sound for a doorbell press.
Make sure the Chime is linked
If the tone is saved but the Chime does not respond, verify the doorbell-to-Chime connection:
- Open the Ring app and tap Menu.
- Tap Devices, then select the Video Doorbell.
- Tap Linked Chimes.
- Under Rings, select the Chime.
- Use the music-note icon to preview the sound, if available.
- Tap Save.
Linking the devices and choosing the tone are separate steps. A Chime can be linked for ring alerts and motion alerts, but each event must be configured correctly.

Why the Christmas or holiday tone is missing
Ring has offered seasonal Chime tones, but they are not a permanent catalog. Ring support has indicated that seasonal sounds may appear only during specific periods, and it does not publish a guaranteed annual release date. Availability can also vary by year, region, account, Chime model, and software release.

Historical Ring Community posts have mentioned Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and other themed sounds. Those examples should not be treated as a guaranteed catalog for 2026. Ring may also remove a seasonal option after the relevant holiday.
If the option is missing:
- Update the Ring app.
- Confirm that the Chime is online.
- Open the Chime device tile—not just the doorbell tile.
- Check Audio Settings → Chime Tones → Doorbell Rings.
- Check again closer to the holiday.
- Use a standard built-in tone if the seasonal sound is unavailable.
Ring’s seasonal availability statements are summarized in its Ring Community support discussion.
Does the visitor outside hear the holiday chime?
No. The selected Chime tone is an indoor alert for people inside the home. It does not change the sound emitted by the Video Doorbell’s exterior speaker.
The visitor-facing doorbell audio and Quick Replies are separate features. If you want visitors to hear a seasonal greeting, check whether Quick Replies are available for your doorbell and account. Ring presents Quick Replies separately from indoor Chime tones in its holiday feature information.

Change the Ring sound on your phone
If you do not have a Ring Chime, you can change the notification sound used by the Ring app:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap Menu → Devices.
- Select the Video Doorbell.
- Tap Alert Settings.
- Tap App Alert Tones.
- Choose the sound for doorbell rings and, if desired, motion alerts.
This changes phone or tablet notifications, not the physical Chime plugged into a wall. Phone alerts can also be affected by notification permissions, volume, Focus or Do Not Disturb, and operating-system settings. Ring notes that some longer alert tones may be cut short on iOS 16; its documented behavior improved with iOS 17, although multiple notifications may still be shortened. See Ring’s alert-tone guidance.
Troubleshooting: the Chime does not sound
- Check power and connectivity. Confirm the Chime is plugged in and online, and verify that the doorbell is online by opening Live View.
- Check the link. Open the doorbell’s Linked Chimes settings and make sure Rings is enabled.
- Check Chime Snooze. A temporary Chime Snooze setting can silence alerts.
- Check volume. Make sure the Chime volume is audible.
- Check the event. Assign the tone under Doorbell Rings, not only Motion Detected.
- Save and test again. Press the physical doorbell button rather than relying only on a preview.
- Reconnect the device. Restart or power-cycle the Chime if it remains unresponsive, then reopen the Ring app after it reconnects.
For additional configuration details, use Ring’s official Chime setup instructions.
If you have a wired in-home chime
Ring’s wired chime controls are separate from Ring Chime controls. The relevant path is:

Ring app → Menu → Devices → Video Doorbell → Device Settings → In-home Chime Settings
Do not change the mechanical or digital chime type casually. Ring says the setting must match the actual hardware, and support varies by doorbell model. Some models do not support a traditional in-home chime and instead require a Ring Chime, Chime Pro, or compatible Alexa device for indoor alerts. Check the model-specific instructions before changing wiring or chime settings.
Multiple Chimes
If you have several Ring Chimes in different rooms, verify each device individually. Ring supports multiple Chimes in a Ring system, but you should not assume that changing one Chime automatically changes every other unit. Check each Chime’s tone, volume, online status, and linked-doorbell settings.

Phone notifications
Phone alerts are useful if you do not want another indoor device, but they are less reliable as a whole-home alert because they depend on phone volume, notification permissions, Focus or Do Not Disturb, and operating-system behavior.

Amazon Alexa
Compatible Echo devices can receive Ring alerts after you link the appropriate Amazon and Ring accounts. This is practical if you already have an Alexa household, but Alexa uses a separate configuration path and should not be assumed to reproduce the exact seasonal tones shown in the Ring Chime menu. See Ring’s Alexa and Ring setup instructions.
Alexa routines can provide additional automation, subject to device and account compatibility; Ring documents that option here.
Can you upload your own Christmas song?
Ring’s documented Chime controls let you select from the built-in tones displayed in the app. They do not provide a supported way to upload an MP3, WAV, or other custom audio file to a Chime. Avoid unofficial firmware changes, file replacement, or modified apps, which can create security and reliability problems.
Seasonal reminder
Holiday sounds are controlled by Ring and may disappear after the seasonal period. A Chime purchase does not guarantee year-round access to every holiday tone. If you want a different sound after the holiday, return to Chime → Device Settings → Audio Settings → Chime Tones and select another available option.
