For a reliable first batch in the Ninja SLUSHi FS301, let the machine stand upright for at least two hours before first use, then use a liquid that meets the guide’s sugar requirement. Chilled regular soda is the simplest starter recipe: fill within the marked range, choose the Slush preset and wait for the machine’s completion cue. The setup and capacity figures below come from the FS301UK guide; owners of other regional models should check their own model’s manual.
Before you add anything
Let the FS301 stand upright
The FS301UK Owner’s Guide says to leave the appliance upright on the countertop for at least two hours before first use so refrigerant can settle in the condenser. This instruction is documented for the FS301UK; follow the guide for your specific regional model if it differs.
Assemble the vessel first
With the appliance off, install the auger and vessel as directed in the owner’s guide, and make sure the vessel is locked in place before pouring in liquid. Do not add hot ingredients, ice, or solid ingredients such as fruit, ice cream or frozen fruit.
Check sugar and fill level
The FS301UK guide states: “All inputs must include at least 5g of sugar per 100ml.” A sugar-free sweetener does not automatically meet this stated sugar minimum. The guide lists a minimum liquid capacity of 475 ml and a maximum of 1,890 ml. Use the machine’s marked fill line: the vessel’s marketed 88 oz (approximately 2.5 L) nominal size is not the maximum liquid fill.

Make a first slush with regular soda
SharkNinja’s recipe guide offers a one-ingredient soda slush as a starter. It recommends chilling the soda before adding it, then pouring in the recipe quantity, selecting SLUSH and dispensing when the machine beeps three times. Match the recipe guide’s serving quantity to the FS301’s fill marks; do not exceed the maximum line.
The guide lists cola, orange, lemon-lime, cream, root beer, ginger ale and grape soda as examples. Choose a regular soda that meets the FS301’s sugar requirement. The recipe guide specifically warns: “Diet soda (or soda made with sugar alternatives) will NOT work in this unit.” That warning is stated for its soda recipe.

Choose the preset and wait for the cue
- Pour the liquid through the easy-fill port after assembling and checking the fill level.
- Switch on the appliance, press the power button and select the program suited to the drink. For regular soda, select Slush.
- Let the preset run. It starts at its default/optimal temperature; use the temperature controls if you want to adjust the texture.
- Wait for the machine’s completion signal. The FS301 guide describes a beep and solid temperature lights when the drink reaches temperature; the soda recipe calls for dispensing when the unit beeps three times.
Do not rely on one universal run time. The ingredients and batch quantity affect how long a slush takes, and SharkNinja says advertised minimum times differ among models. Follow the completion cue for your machine and the recipe instructions for your batch.
If the mixture is too low in sugar
If your planned mixture does not meet the guide’s minimum, the official guidance includes adding simple syrup, flavored syrup, honey, agave, maple syrup or grenadine. If using granulated sugar, dissolve it in a portion of the liquid first, then return that liquid to the vessel. Keep additions proportionate to the batch and below the marked maximum fill line. Do not use sugar-free sweetener as a substitute for the stated sugar amount.

Dispense, rinse and clean up
Dispense using the unit’s handle and follow the owner’s guide for the rinse feature and removable parts. SharkNinja’s current support instructions say to wipe the motor base with a damp cloth, never submerge it, and dry parts thoroughly before storage.
