Disconnect the saw from power, remove dust and chips from the openings, moving parts, bevel hinges, blade area and extraction port, and follow the manual for your exact model before cleaning the blade or using any chemical. For a corded TS 55 REQ, Festool specifies kerosene for resin and wood deposits on a removed blade, prohibits compressed air on the motor housing, and directs motor- or gear-housing repairs to an authorized service center. Guide rails should be kept visibly free of debris, but Festool’s FS 1400/2 product information does not publish a rail-cleaning solvent, lubricant or fixed cleaning interval.
What you need to know before cleaning
A Festool track saw is a precision cutting system: the saw, blade, guide rail, splinterguard and dust-extraction path all affect cut quality. Maintenance is therefore less about polishing the exterior and more about preventing abrasive dust, chips and resin from interfering with movement, cooling, extraction and guidance.

Instructions vary by generation and power system. The maintenance details below are grounded in the TS 55 REQ supplemental and current manuals, while product dimensions cited later come from the current US TS 55 FEQ-F-Plus listing. Do not assume that every TS or TSC model uses the same blade-cleaning chemical, battery-isolation method or replacement part.
Identify the exact saw
Read the model marking on the saw before opening a manual or ordering parts. The current US TS 55 FEQ-F-Plus listing describes a 120 VAC saw with a 160 mm blade and cutting depth up to 55 mm. Those specifications are a reference for that listing, not universal specifications for every TS 55 or TSC 55 generation.

A corded TS 55 REQ is unplugged at the power outlet before maintenance. A cordless saw must be isolated using the battery-removal procedure specified for that model. If the manual for your model differs from the procedure here, the model-specific manual controls.
Safety rules that govern every maintenance session
Isolate the energy source first
Unplug a corded saw before removing the blade, clearing debris, inspecting hinges or cleaning openings. Festool’s TS 55 REQ supplemental manual states: “Always unplug the tool from the power supply outlet before performing any maintenance or repair work on the tool.” For a cordless model, remove or otherwise disconnect the battery as directed by that model’s instructions. Do not rely on a trigger lock or switch position as isolation.
Keep compressed air away from the motor housing
Festool specifically warns against using compressed air to clean the motor housing because air can drive foreign objects through the ventilation openings and into the motor. This prohibition is easy to miss because the supplemental manual separately permits compressed air or cotton swabs for the bevel hinges. Treat those as two different instructions:
Recommended Free Tools
- Compressed air or a cotton swab may be used for the bevel-hinge area when the manual permits it.
- Do not blow compressed air into the motor housing or its ventilation openings.
Do not improvise with solvents
The supplemental manual lists gasoline, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), carbonyl chloride, chlorine-containing solutions, ammonia and ammonia-containing household cleaners among substances that can damage plastic parts. A cleaner that removes resin quickly can still attack housings, scales, knobs or other components. Use only the agent named in the manual for the exact part and model.

Know when cleaning must stop
Do not continue using the saw if a safety device is inoperable or has been disabled. Unusual sounds, reduced cut quality, or reduced cutting power or speed are reasons to inspect the tool and arrange service rather than trying to compensate with more cleaning or force.
A complete post-use cleaning routine
Use this sequence after a dusty cutting session or whenever movement, extraction or cut quality begins to deteriorate. It deliberately separates safe user cleaning from repairs that require opening the machine.
- Isolate the saw. Unplug a corded model or disconnect its battery according to the model manual. Place the saw on a stable surface with the blade stopped and the plunge mechanism supported.
- Remove loose dust and chips. Use the dust extractor to collect debris around the saw and its openings. Festool notes that even softwood dust can be abrasive over time, so do not leave a visible layer on moving components.
- Clear cooling openings. Inspect the ventilation openings and remove accessible dust without forcing debris into the motor. Use extraction or a suitable soft cleaning method; do not use compressed air on the motor housing.
- Clean moving parts. Remove chips and splinters from the plunge mechanism, guides and other moving areas. Move components only as needed to expose accessible debris, keeping fingers clear of the blade path.
- Clean the bevel hinges. The TS 55 REQ supplemental manual allows compressed air or cotton swabs for the bevel hinges. Keep this limited permission confined to the hinge area and away from the motor housing.
- Clear the blade area. Inspect around the blade guard, riving or protective components used by your model, and the sole area. Built-up debris can increase wear and interfere with smooth movement.
- Clear the dust-extraction port. Use the extractor on the machine openings to remove chips and splinters. A restricted port reduces extraction effectiveness and allows more dust to remain around the saw.
- Inspect the guide interface. Check the saw’s contact surfaces and the rail’s running surface for packed chips. Remove visible debris before making another cut.
- Inspect operation before returning to work. Check that guards and safety devices move and function normally. If the saw produces unusual sounds or has lost cutting power, stop and arrange inspection or service.
How to clean a Festool blade with resin or wood deposits
Resin and compacted wood can increase friction and affect cutting performance. The cited TS 55 REQ manual directs the user to remove the blade and use kerosene for this cleaning task. That instruction is model-specific; do not extend it automatically to another TS or TSC generation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBlade-cleaning procedure for the cited TS 55 REQ instruction
- Disconnect power. Unplug the saw before touching the blade.
- Remove the blade according to the manual. Use the supplied locking and wrench procedure for your model. Do not improvise a method that leaves the blade able to rotate.
- Apply only the specified cleaner. For the cited TS 55 REQ manual, kerosene is the named agent for resin and wood deposits. Follow the manual’s handling directions and keep the product away from plastic parts unless the manual expressly permits contact.
- Remove softened deposits. Clean the blade without bending teeth or damaging the tooth geometry. Do not use an aggressive solvent simply because it appears faster.
- Reinstall and check the blade. Confirm the blade is installed in the correct direction, seated properly and tightened as specified for the exact saw.
The manual’s kerosene instruction should not be treated as a universal Festool recommendation. If your saw is a different TS or TSC model, consult that model’s manual before selecting a blade cleaner.

Cleaning the saw without damaging plastic parts
Most routine cleaning should be dry removal of dust and chips with extraction, a soft cloth or the limited method identified for a particular area in the manual. Keep chemicals away from housings, scales, switches and knobs unless the manual names them as safe.
- Do not use gasoline, acetone, MEK, carbonyl chloride, chlorine-containing solutions, ammonia or ammonia-based household cleaners on plastic components.
- Do not flood the tool. Liquid entering electrical or motor openings creates a different hazard from surface dust.
- Do not scrape precision contact surfaces with a hard tool that could score them.
- Do not force packed debris deeper into ventilation openings, hinges or the extraction channel.
- Do not open the motor or gear housing as a cleaning shortcut.
How to care for the guide rail
Festool’s FS 1400/2 information identifies an integrated splinterguard and non-skid dual-clamping rubber strips. These features depend on a rail surface that is free of chips and other debris, but the cited official rail page does not publish a cleaning procedure, approved solvent, lubricant or maintenance interval.
Practical rail cleanup
As general workshop care—not as a published Festool chemical specification—keep the rail visibly clean and dry:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Separate the rail from the workpiece. Lift it clear so chips are not dragged along the splinterguard or rubber strips.
- Remove loose debris. Use extraction or a soft, dry cloth to remove sawdust and chips from the top, underside and the saw’s running channel.
- Inspect the splinterguard. Look for packed dust, lifted sections or damage that could affect the cut line. Do not trim or replace it unless the accessory instructions for that rail authorize the procedure.
- Inspect the non-skid strips. Check that the dual rubber strips are seated and free of chips that could let the rail shift.
- Check connectors and joints. If rails are joined, verify that the connector and joint are seated correctly before cutting. Festool identifies guide-rail connectors as the method for joining compatible rails.
- Store the rail supported. Avoid leaning it where it can be bent, crushed or contaminated by loose debris.
Because no rail-specific solvent or lubricant is established by the cited FS 1400/2 information, do not apply oil, silicone, wax, household cleaner or a solvent and call it Festool-approved maintenance. If a particular rail variant has its own manual, follow that document.

Inspecting guide-rail cam wear bars
The TS 55 REQ supplemental manual calls for periodic inspection of the guide-rail cam wear bars. It does not provide a numeric inspection interval or a wear threshold. “Periodic” therefore means incorporating the check into your normal maintenance routine rather than assigning an invented number of cuts or hours.
What to look for
- Visible damage or abnormal wear on the cam wear bars.
- A change in how the saw fits or tracks on the rail.
- Unexpected side play, binding or a rail connection that no longer holds alignment.
- Cut lines that drift even though the rail is positioned correctly.
If the saw no longer tracks predictably, stop cutting and identify whether the problem is debris, rail damage, saw adjustment or a worn component. Replace parts only when the replacement is confirmed for the exact model and function.

“TS 55” is not a universal fit designation. Festool’s SP-TS 55 R/5 page lists compatibility with TS 55 R, TS 55 F, TSC 55, TSC 55 K and TSC 55 KS, while distinguishing those models from TS 55 EQ compatibility. A part that looks correct can still be wrong for the saw generation, guard design or dust system.

When user cleaning is not enough
Motor and gear housing work is not a routine cleaning task. The TS 55 REQ manual directs work that requires opening those housings to an authorized customer service center. The current US TS 55 FEQ-F-Plus product information likewise directs repairs to an authorized workshop.

Arrange authorized service rather than opening the housing if you find an electrical fault, persistent unusual noise, loss of power or speed, a safety device that does not operate, or damage that cannot be corrected by removing accessible debris. Opening the housing can create alignment, electrical-safety and warranty problems that cleaning cannot solve.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The saw feels stiff on the rail
- Disconnect power.
- Inspect the rail channel and the saw’s contact surfaces for chips or packed dust.
- Check the rail’s non-skid strips and splinterguard for debris or damage.
- Inspect the guide-rail cam wear bars as part of the periodic check.
- If binding remains, stop using the system and seek model-specific service or parts advice.
Dust extraction has become weak
- Disconnect power and inspect the dust-extraction port.
- Use the extractor to remove chips and splinters from machine openings.
- Check for buildup around the blade area and other passages.
- Do not blow compressed air into the motor housing.
- If extraction remains poor after accessible debris is removed, have the system inspected.
The cut quality or cutting speed has deteriorated
- Stop cutting and isolate the saw.
- Inspect the blade for resin and wood deposits; for the cited TS 55 REQ instruction, remove the blade and use kerosene as specified.
- Check that the blade is correctly installed and that the guide rail is clean and stable.
- If reduced power, speed or unusual sounds continue, arrange authorized service rather than forcing the saw through material.
A safety device does not work normally
Stop using the saw immediately. Do not disable, bypass or lubricate a safety device in an attempt to restore movement. Have the tool inspected by an authorized service center.
A maintenance checklist for the jobsite
Use this checklist at the end of a work session and whenever the saw is moved between jobs:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Dust removed from moving parts and accessible openings.
- Cooling openings clear without compressed air directed into the motor housing.
- Bevel hinges clean using only the limited method permitted by the manual.
- Blade area and extraction port free of chips and splinters.
- Guide rail, splinterguard and non-skid strips visibly free of debris.
- Guide-rail cam wear bars included in the periodic inspection.
- Blade removed and cleaned according to the exact model manual when resin buildup is present.
- No prohibited solvent or household cleaner applied to plastic parts.
- No unusual sound, reduced cut quality, reduced power or disabled safety device present before the next cut.
Bottom line
Maintain a Festool track saw by isolating power first, extracting dust from openings and moving areas, keeping bevel hinges, the blade area and dust port clear, and inspecting the guide-rail cam wear bars periodically. For a TS 55 REQ, the cited manual names kerosene for cleaning a removed blade, while warning against compressed air on the motor housing and against several solvents and household cleaners on plastic. Keep the FS 1400/2 rail visibly free of debris, but do not claim a Festool-approved rail solvent, lubricant or fixed interval unless the manual for that exact rail says so. Send motor- or gear-housing work and unresolved performance or safety problems to an authorized service center.
